Jury convicts grandmother of sex crimes

A jury found an Albuquerque grandmother guilty of raping a young relative Friday afternoon.

And people actually want to legalize drugs saying it is a personal choice and that users should be responsible for their actions. This is a perfect example of why they should not be legalized. Even if Granny is sentenced for the rest of her life, it'll not make up for what that little girl went through. Nothing can atone for that. Who speaks for the victim in such cases?

I think it is great that they convicted a child rapist. I had been following this story since day 1 and this granny does not know the difference from right and wrong. They had to restrain her a couple of times because of her irational behavior. Pass the popcorn folks - this ones gonna be a long one.

Drug users should be held responsible for their actions when they're on drugs regardless of the legality of drugs.

If you're going to let drug users off the hook because they did something stup!d when they were high then the same logic can be applied to the plethora of DWI defendants. There's no valid reason to excuse either.

What a horrible ordeal for the little girl and family. I hope they get professional help. This granny didn't start using heroin in 2005, and other family members may be using too. I'd guess that it's been going on a long long time, and there's probably a lot of guilt feelings for anyone who knew about the habit and did nothing years ago. Poor kid.

Isn't it usually multiple children when there is a child molester? This woman is 55 years old and only one child has come forward dont you think there would be other children that would confess? I believe she is innocent because she would have took the plea bargain instead of doing all the years in prison. come on now people...!!!???

This situation makes me sick to my stomach. What is this world coming to??? The little girl needs to be safe - Social Services needs to check on this little girl frequently. What a bad situation this little girl is in - her family is very disgusting.

I know that she is innocent because she watched me when i was little and never did anything bad or wrong to me or in front of me. If she didnt do it then what makes you think she would do it now!!

What everyone doesn't know is that she was not even able to take the stand on her own defence and there was so many witnesses that were willing to testify for her but were not givin the opertunity what that tells me is that the judge wouldnt even give her a chance to prove her inosence That is so sad!!!!!!!!!!

it seems to me we rely to much on the verdict derived by the jurors as solid gold. look at the oj case the facts were weighed and there just was not the proper evidence to convict and i beleive to many cases are decided on emotion and not fact. this is very sad for people who rely on a jury of thier peers to send them to prison even if possibly not guilty. what a sorry system we have. we should be very scared. it is broken just as so many things seem to be broken in this country at this point in time.

Child molestation cases are never easy. Children's 'memories' are often misunderstood, misinterpreted, exploited, manufactured, and manipulated by legal parties. That being said, 99.99999% of sex offenders are victims of abuse. It is understandable to vilify someone who has violated a child. It sickens me. But, if, and I mean IF, grandma was a victim herself, w/ no support or safe harbor, how can we expect a different outcome?

If she is guilty, she should serve the MAXIMUM. However; if not, this conviction just criples the process for true molestation victims. My family suffered at the hands of a serial molester. Several cousins of mine were victims over decades; at the hands of the same perpetrator afflicted with this destructive disease, and his actions were hidden and denied by trusted adults in the family, and swept under the rug. Children as young as four years old were told that they must have enticed the monster somehow. Can't see it, as pediphilia is seen as a sexual preference by these a**holes. If you wait too long to report the crime because of familmial interferance they get away; scott free: only to victimize the next generation of children in line. I know for a fact that my aunt allows the creep to live in her household where her grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren are present at times. Both she and my mother say he is a changed man. Right. If this granmother is guilty; hang her: if not the people in the know who are lying about this situation cheapen any attempt at justice for people who have suffered at the hands of these diseased individuals whose only cure is lead poisening. Period.
