Why stop at #8.50? Why not vote everyone a $12.50 per hour wage?

Well...doh...maybe they didn't want to appear greedy...you know like how they accuse Mitt Romney of being...

Hmmm...wonder what they think of George Soros and Ted Turner?

Have you ever worked for minimum wage? Serious question.

Yes.

The real trick is not how much a person makes but do you really like what you do?

And to be thankful for what you do have...

No, the question is... Can you pay your bills?

Hmm...not with progressive liberal regulation and taxes on oil & electric companies forcing them to increase energy costs...

Hmm...unintended consequences of trying to "punish" those companies end up punishing the hard working people...

Call it "trickle down penalties"...

The problem is that minimum wage won't pay all the bills for a family, and with the pisspoor state of our economy and lack of jobs, many are forced to take what few minimum wage jobs there are. As time passes, minimum wages are increased by mandate, and more compete, either the workforce is cut or hours are cut, which in the end still hurts the workers.

A minimum wage worker will still spend every penny.

Isn't that good?

Yes and no. For the economy at the present time yes, for the person's later years, no. With no savings and the raiding of the SS funds, how are the youth of today supposed to live in their later years?

For that reason, in general terms, it is an issue for the government since it wishes to be the alpha and omega of life in the US.

In a socialist country the government sets the salaries not the private companies...

Yes, because the private companies won't do so in a manner consistent with the artificially inflated or deflated economy.

most of current jobs in NM are minimum wage jobs so getting it raised is a good thing. when the tax hikes, obamacare etc go in full force the larger companies will be trimming or planning exits so minimum wage will be all there is.

$20 would be more equitable and better for the economy long-term. But we need to do that gradually, and it should be done at the federal level.

I am now looking to relocate my business to Rio Rancho.

Within three month I will close down in Albuquerque thanks to those who voted telling me I should give up some of my profits.

That after paying employee's insurance, Social Security and more.

I am not alone in moving out of Albuquerque.
