Navajos trying to clear autopsy bill with state
The U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs is considering a request that would help the Navajo Nation settle a nearly $200,000 debt that has led to fewer autopsies being performed for the tribe.

The Navajo Nation Council should take action on this debt and get it paid immediately. The Council should discuss these important issues and make wise decisions on the Navajo Nation's funds, instead of throwing money around on unnecessary expenses such as capital improvements, etc (we haven't seen new construction in our communities for years). Our council delegates are selfish, they are spending every cent in the Undesignated Reserve each time funds are replenished. What a waste of precious resources.

You can't use education funds for expenses incurred for autopsies performed by the OMI. |
Okay here we go again, digging up bones, give hawaii a rest already. For the love of God let it go! |

with the amount of money the tribe throws around when they go into special sessions you would think they would pay there bills. wonder how they take care of there personal affairs.

Instead of investing into a casino..pay your bill!

exactly, if they can manage to take a vacation on education money then im sure they can find a way to transfere funds somewhere. |

It doesn't work that way with Federal funding. |

After reading all these comments, I know the Navajo Nation can figure out how to pay this bill. If it can't be paid immediately, we need to budget the cost into FY'08 proposed budget. We can't just ignore it, it's an obligation that we need to pay. This unpaid bill makes the Navajo Nation look very bad. The programs that are responsible for this bill need to meet with BIA and get this straighten out before another year passes.
