What do you mean, "will not have to pay for flood insurance"? I suppose you told the people in New Orleans the same thing, eh? Anything man-made can be torn down by Mother Nature - insurance is not only smart, it should be mandatory!

Now if they'd dredge the river and remove silt thus making the channel (river) deeper, they'd have all manner of dirt for the levee's.
No flood insurance in such an area stupid. If you choose not to have it, so be it, but remember - willful ignorance should be painful.

If someone comes up to you and says, "We're from the government and we're here to help you", just run, don't look back, don't pass Go, don't wait and see if you're going to collect $200, just run as far as you can and as fast as you can.

Maybe they can hire the same contractor who built the $180,000 bridge on the bosque. We will have the best looking levee's in the nation!!!

They really do need to dredge the river. If we ever did get flood water it wouldn't take much because everthing is so built up that it's almost touching the bottom of the bridge now. It's really embarassing to think this is the Rio Grande, when you look at it at the bridge in Los Lunas it is so over grown and dirty.

Having recently been in S NM I can attest to the river below the Butte being full, VERY full, at least as far as Hatch.
