Selectman Edward MacDonald and Police Chief Donald Poirot faced off at Tuesday night's Selectmen's meeting over the future of the police department's fleet of cruisers -- with MacDonald insisting on switching ...

It seems to me that the Police Chief who has been a police officer and public servant for years and who was promoted through the ranks would have more knowledge of what is best for his force and the town rather then two egotistical selectmen. Adams is suppose to be a democracy where everyone has a voice, not a dictatorship with one or two ruling the town.

No...Adams was not arguing over cop cars. Wannabe town administrator Ed MacDonald was. Adams, "the people", is still wondering where it's economic development initiatives, budgetary management principles and growth strategies are. Quite frankly, I listened to Ed's banter with the chief. I would love to know where he was getting his "facts". Ed is known for making things up as he goes...it's time he gets called on it. I echo "Barney's" sentiments. I trust the chief a whole lot more than I trust MacDonald. At least I have confidence the chief actually did his homework. Let's get off the micro-management horse here folks and start talking about where we're going to be in five years. Begging North Adams to remerge perhaps?

The last paragraph of this article sums it up nicely. Adams pays a Town Adminstrator, a Chief of Police and a Chief Mechanic to do certain jobs, make decisions on what equipment works best for its departments and here comes Ed MacDonald and Joe Solomon to 'the rescue'. One has to wonder what the real reason was for the change from the first time Joe & Ed voted for the police budget? New information?, doubt it, sounds more like get even

Hey Ed, Take a seat and keep the mouth shut for once please. You make a fool out of yourself. The Police Chief knows what he is talking about. They are in the streets and no much better than you and I do. Worry about how you can attract more business and keep its younger residents here instead of moving away from the Mother town.

I msut again take Ed McDonald to task. What in insult it is on Chief Poirot! The slectman be littles the Chief when he mentions that all people drive front wheel cars. These officers put themselves in harms way in a pursuit. Should they not be safe?? Whats next Ed, chaniging the officers weapons for a bullet that is 10 cents cheaper? Chief also brings up a valid point about the transfer of equipment. Makes dollars and cents to me! Again Ed, thanks for nothing. Let them do their jobs!

Haven't you heard Ed MacDonald knows everything about everything and he'll always tell you that his 'buddies on the hill' or his 'data' confirms his bul#s*%t

Joe Solomon has turned into Ed's ventiloquist dummy....

As the former chief of police in Adams I hold with Chief Poirot's decision to stay with the Crown Vic's as cruisers. We tried small Chevies once in the mid 80s, they are not made for police patrol. My son, a former Virginia Trooper, now a New Hampshire trooper, had an Impala and it is not a a patrol vehicle. It can be used for detectives who do not have push their vehicles as patrol officers do. Strange that the Crown Vic's were approved by the board and now a change, as elected officials, those opposing the Fords owe the residents a better explanation than the one presented. It does not satisfy me.

One horse town? That's original. Do you have statistics to back your claim how many police officers Adams needs? Also, your expertise in police cars that small ones are better?

What about Dodge?? What about open bidding practices??? What about what is best not what is the cheapest?? I'd like to show the meeting tape to the Ethics commission, there were more than a few unethical comments made.

Calling me disgusting names will not change what I said.I listen to the scanner and Adams has far less calls than any other area town and some are quite funny.Report of a dead bird in the road.Report of a neighbor starring at another neighbor. Some clown complaining that snow from a neighbors snow blower is on his lawn.Sounds like cases for Bernard P. Fife. When are you going to put someone 24 / 7 on route 8 and nail the constant speeders and idiots who refuse to stop for school busses?

I`am concerned when I see another case of a politician meddling in areas where they have no expertise. The town "Fathers" are not the ones who have to go out in the streets with the equipment in question. Bow to the superior knowledge of those that do.

Bad names? Simply put, you know not what you say, everything is not put over the radio for your entertainment. I know factually that Adams has more calls and activity than towns of comparable size.

What is so wrong about wanting to trim the budget with comparabe cars? Seems to me that we have more cars that sit on School St than are in use. Seems to me we have more overpaid police officers than any other local officials. Seems to me that the people who whine about their taxes don't undrstand what Joe Soloman and ed MacDonald were doing. Don't complain about your taxes if you can't understand the reasoning behind it. Not personal vendettas - but more fiscally minded.
Lighten up Town of Adams - sometimes you don't make sense.....
