Who cares how much fuel costs - in the end, we need to develop, maintain and sitricute alternative fuels in order to prevent being held hostage by the same cultures that seek to kill us!
Whether it be auto fuel, plane fuel, heating fuel, etc.. We need alternatives and we need them now! Same goes for the "ailing auto industry". If they can't pull out with alternative fuel vehicles, then we should let them sink.

We need gasoline and diesel rationing as an incentive to switch to alternative energy for vehicles at 10 gallons per week and a mandatory closure of gas stations nationwide on Sunday between the hours of 6:00 P.M. Saturday and 6:00 A.M. Monday. This would drive prices down even further.

How about a solar panel for every roof? Make electric generation companies spread out the generation into solar panels, and buy back the excess, instead of having generation plants that burn fossil fuels.
