THE RETURN OF COINTELPRO?

Democracies die behind closed doors”– Judge Damon J. Keith

For 15 years (1956-1971) the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ran a broad and highly coordinated domestic intelligence / counterintelligence program known as COINTELPRO (COunter INTELligence PROgrams). What was originally deemed as a justifiable effort to protect the US during the Cold War from Soviet and Communist threats and infiltration, soon devolved into a program for suppressing domestic dissent and spying on American citizens. Approximately 20,000 people were investigated by the FBI based only on their political views and beliefs. Most were never suspected of having committed any crime.

CHRIS PYLE: WHISTLEBLOWER ON CIA SPYING ON AMERICANS IN THE 70'S

As NSA director General Keith Alexander blasts the leaks that exposed widespread surveillance of Americans, we’re joined by Chris Pyle, a former military instructor who exposed the CIA and Army’s monitoring of millions of Americans in the 1970s.

Pyle discovered the Army and CIA were spying on millions of Americans engaged in lawful political activity while he was in the Army working as an instructor. His revelations prompted Senate hearings, including Senator Frank Church’s Select Committee on Intelligence, ultimately leading to a series of laws aimed at curbing government abuses.

EX-GENERAL TARGET OF WHISTLEBLOWER INVESTIGATION

According to legal sources, retired Marine Gen. James “Hoss” Cartwright, the former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has been notified that he’s under investigation for allegedly leaking information about a massive attack using a computer virus named Stuxnet on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Gen. Cartwright, 63, becomes the latest alleged leaker targeted by the Obama administration, which has already prosecuted or charged eight individuals under the Espionage Act.

WORKPLACE MOBBING

Mobbing is the workplace harassment component of gang stalking. It is nothing like the activity people commonly associate with terms like “workplace harassment.” Common examples of harassment by employers include things like sexual harassment or verbal abuse by a manager. Mobbing on the other hand, is an organized campaign of intense harassment by multiple perpetrators, often (or perhaps always) done as part of the overall surveillance and harassment process known as gang stalking.

The objective of mobbing is to emotionally torture a targeted employee. It’s done either to force him or her to quit or to keep the person silent (in the case of potential whistle-blowers) or for vengeance when the victim has enraged someone in
the organization’s management structure who has the necessary assets and connections to arrange for the stalking.

Recent news 6-28-13 written by guest columnist Howard L. Simon, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida.

It starts: "In 2006, the American Civil Liberties Union sued to stop illegal electronic surveillance by the National Security Agency under a program that was secretly authorized by President Bush.

Bush had ordered the NSA to monitor telephone and email communications of people inside the United States with people abroad, and to sift through millions of calls and emails of ordinary Americans. All this was done without a court order, as required under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act and Title III of the federal criminal code — the only legal basis by which electronic surveillance and the interception of domestic electronic communications may be conducted.

This month, the ACLU filed another challenge to another NSA secret surveillance program — this one authorized by President Obama. We defend constitutional rights no matter who is president and which political party is in power."

NSA'S OPERATIONS ENVY OF FORMER STASI COMMANDER

Peering out over the city [Berlin] that lived in fear when the communist party ruled it, he pondered the magnitude of domestic spying in the United States under the Obama administration. A smile spread across his face.

“You know, for us, this would have been a dream come true,” he said, recalling the days when he was a lieutenant colonel in the defunct communist country’s secret police, the Stasi.

More on ptw's contribution from the Orlando Sentinel:

REPUDIATION OF NSA'S TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY

"The Obama program vacuums up information about every phone call placed within, from, or to the United States. The purported legal justification is Section 215 of the Patriot Act, a controversial provision permitting the government to obtain "any tangible thing" relevant to a foreign intelligence or terrorism investigation. Those served with a Section 215 order, such as telecommunications companies, are prohibited from disclosing that they gave the government their customers' records.

This dragnet is surely one of the largest surveillance efforts ever launched by a democratic government against its own citizens.

IT IS THE EQUIVALENT OF REQUIRING AMERICANS TO FILE DAILY REPORTS WITH THE GOVERNMENT OF EVERY LOCATION THEY VISIT, EVERY PERSON THEY TALKED TO ON THE PHONE AND THE TIME AND LENGTH OF EVERY CONVERSATION."

CASS SUNSTEIN: FORMER U.S. MINISTER OF PROPOGANDA

"I don’t believe in conspiracy theories — only the ones that are real." -Michael Moore

The mainstream media has increasingly become a sounding board or “government paparazzi” for anonymous government officials who effectively control the scope of inquiry or debate on vital public interest issues. In this new order, the press is relegated to the role of mere adjutant — a corps of government spokesmen, so to speak.

Investigative journalism has become so compromised as to be aptly described as nugatory. Any serious questioning of the facts behind terrorist events, and other key government concerns, that deviates from the official government narrative, is promptly labeled “conspiracy theory”, regardless of how well-rooted in empirical evidence it is.

Seven Examples of Government Conspiracies:

Iran-Contra affair: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran-Contra_affa...

Operation Mockingbird: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Mockin...

Operation Northwoods: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Northw...

Operation Paperclip: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Paperc...

Project MKUltra: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKUltra

Tuskegee syphilis experiment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuskegee_syphili...

Watergate scandal: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watergate_scand...

Cass Sunstein, Obama’s former “Information Czar”, on the government’s role regarding “conspiracy theories”:

“Our focus throughout is on false conspiracy theories, not true ones. Our ultimate goal is to explore how public officials might undermine such theories, and as a general rule, true accounts should not be undermined.(emphasis added by this site’s authors)

(From:“Conspiracy Theories” by Cass R. Sunstein and Adrian Vermeule, Harvard Law School, Jan 15, 2008, http://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm... )

But who decides what is true? An Ivy League law professor at the time that he co-authored the paper, Sunstein is clearly stating that government is the final arbiter of truth — nothing short of Orwellian doublethink. Futhermore, it is the government’s role, according to Sunstein, to push certain “truths”, while undermining others. But again: The government will decide what constitutes a false conspiracy theory.

In the same 2008 paper, entitled “Conspiracy Theories”, Sunstein, an Ivy League Law Professor, proposes a number of methods to control the blogger conspiracy theorists. Anyone who is functionally literate would clearly see the following proposed government action as both violating and undermining the First Amendment.

Sunstein is clearly an extremist, and, perhaps, one of the most dangerous men in America. Here are the proposals made by Obama’s former “regulatory czar”, as head of the White House Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

(1) banning internet speech

(2) taxing or fining internet speech

(3) government counter-speech: official propaganda carried out by government agents, or private contractor sub-agents, through “cognitive infiltration”; and/or

(4) political rehabilitation of bloggers: the “informal” approaching of bloggers by the government to encourage them to support the government’s views

TED L. GUNDERSON: FORMER F.B.I. ON GANGSTALKING

"..."gang stalking", "gang stalking" groups and "gang stalking" methods reasonably describes an ongoing, active, covert, nationwide program that is in effect today, and, based on my investigations and experience, has been in operation since, at least, the early 80's. These programs are using the codenames Echelon Program, Carnivore System and Tempest Systems."

...."This makes the F.B.I.'s former COINTEL program, which I worked on, including in a supervisory capacity, look like a Sunday school program by comparison."

REPORT: NSA TARGETS EU OFFICES, COMPUTERS

BERLIN, June 29 (Reuters)- The United States bugged European Union offices and gained access to EU internal computer networks, according to secret documents cited in a German magazine on Saturday, the latest in a series of exposures of alleged U.S. spy programmes.

Der Spiegel cited from a September 2010 "top secret" document of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) which it said fugitive former NSA contractor Edward Snowden had taken with him and which the weekly's journalists had seen in part.

The document outlines how the NSA bugged offices and spied on EU internal computer networks in Washington and at the United Nations, not only listening to conversations and phone calls but also gaining access to documents and emails.

The document explicitly called the EU a "target".

LAND OF THE BLIND: ILLUSION OF AMERICAN FREEDOM

In the Wachowskis’ iconic 1999 film, The Matrix,
the protagonist Neo is wakened from a lifelong slumber by Morpheus, a freedom fighter seeking to liberate humans from virtual slavery – a lifelong hibernation state – imposed by hyper-advanced artificial intelligence machines. With their minds plugged into a perfectly crafted virtual reality, few humans ever realize they are living in a dream world to such an extent that most are willing to give their lives in order to preserve the system that enslaves them.

Sound familiar? It should, because as I make clear in my new book, A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State (available on Amazon.com and in stores), we too are living in a fantasy world carefully crafted to resemble a representative democracy, while in reality we are little more than slaves in thrall to an authoritarian regime, with its constant surveillance, manufactured media spectacles, secret courts, inverted justice, and violent repression of dissent. And for the few who dare to challenge the status quo such as Edward Snowden, they are assured of being branded either as conspiratorialists, alarmists, lunatics or outright traitors.

AMERICA SPEAKS:
PETITION REACHES 100,000 FOR SNOWDEN'S PARDON

(DailySheeple)– The American people have spoken out in defense of Edward Snowden. As federal prosecutors charge Snowden with the crime of espionage and request his extradition from Hong Kong, a petition for his full pardon has reached the threshold necessary to receive a response after less than two weeks.

The petition states:

Edward Snowden is a national hero and should be immediately issued a full, free, and absolute pardon for any crimes he has committed or may have committed related to blowing the whistle on secret NSA surveillance programs.

AMERICA'S SURVEILLANCE NET

“A school of fish swims peacefully in the ocean. Out of sight, a net is spread beneath it. At the edges of the net is a circle of fishing boats. Suddenly, the fishermen yank up the edges of the net, and in an instant the calm, open ocean becomes a boiling caldron, an exitless, rapidly shrinking prison in which the fish thrash in vain for freedom and life.

Increasingly, the American people are like this school of fish in the moments before the net is pulled up. The net in question is of course the Internet and associated instruments of data collection, and the fishermen are corporations and the government. That is, to use the more common metaphor, we have come to live alongside the machinery of a turnkey tyranny.”

First they came for the communists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the Catholics,

Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.

FOURTH OF JULY: NSA SPYING PROTESTS

Restore the Fourth, a grassroots movement aimed at — you guessed it — standing up for the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, will be holding rallies across the country on the Fourth of July. The aim of the rallies is to condemn the National Security Agency for spying on American citizens by collecting phone records and other metadata under the guise of national security.

Restore the Fourth, whose motto is "Secure your privacy," has a convenient map of all the protests on its website, allowing you to easily find one near you. In Washington, for example, there will be a rally at McPherson Square.

GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICE:
CORPORATIONS PAY LESS THAN 13% IN TAXES

American companies pay one-third of the federal corporate income tax rate, thanks to “loopholes and gimmicks” in the tax code, the Government Accountability Office reported Monday.

The news comes just as the Senate is trying to build momentum for sweeping tax reforms, including potential changes in corporate tax rates that some lawmakers argue are too high.

The report followed a year-long study commissioned by Sens. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and Tom Coburn, R-Okla., who are the chairman and ranking Republican, respectively, on the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.

The agency’s examination “found that, on average, large, profitable U.S. corporations paid U.S. federal income tax amounting to just 12.6 percent of their worldwide income, a tax rate which is only about one-third of the U.S. statutory rate,” the panel said in a statement issued Monday.

"OBSCURE" GOVERNMENT ETHICS OFFICE HACKED

The office is a SMALL AGENCY within the executive branch that oversees compliance by federal employees with standards of conflicts and conflicts of interest, especially among members of the Senior Executive Service and presidential appointees.

"I don't know, understand why someone would want to shut down OGE's site. First of all, you'd have to know what OGE is, and how obscure an agency it is," Salamone said.

PORN!, WINE!, NERF BALLS!: IRS CHARGES IT UP

A lack of oversight allowed Internal Revenue Service employees to purchase wine and pornography, among other things, with government-issued credit cards, the agency's inspector general said.

The IRS made more than 273,000 purchases totaling more than $103 million by using credit cards and another $4.4 million using convenience checks, the inspector general said in a June 20 report. The purchases took place in 2010 and 2011.

Of the almost 400 cards given to employees, just two percent were cut off before the employee to which they were assigned left the IRS, the IG said. The exact number cut off was not specified in the report, but two percent of 400 is eight.
