Why would these indivudals even qualify for bail - they should be held without the possibility. And to call these individuals animals insults every animal I've ever encountered - they are the scum of the earth and should be executed. Anyone who would do that to another individual doesn't deserve to live in society or in jail - a waster of tax-payer dollars. In any other country than America, there heads would already be off. There's something amiss with a legal system that would protect these clearly guilty individuals.

My heart goes out to the Petti family and friends. It is very scary to know that there are people out there that would do such an unthinkable act. I hope they suffer ten times more than they put that poor family through.. I do think they should excuted but I also think they should suffer tremdously..

That's if these scum were not alone on this horrific crime... How many rich doctors wanted to get out of a marriage the hard way...

Remember Dr. Jeffery McDonald from NC, Dr. Richard Crafts from CT, and others? How quickly we overlook "certain" people for RICO-ACT crimes... I guess you never knew wrestler Chris Benoit would do what he did... He took the easy way out... Ask yourself (among the MANY unexplainable ones in this case) "Why didn't Dr. Petit check his family's status when he escaped from his strangely loose ropes from the burning house? Being a hospital Dr. wouldn't that be the first thing on his mind even for strangers? His house wasn't fully involved yet when he escaped. They weren't outside on the front lawn so where were they? They were still inside! And he didn't know this?"

Don't shoot the messenger...!!! I live here in CT and stuff like this is not rare for us! We had the wood chipper Dr. in 1986 just 21 years ago!

I know this man, why would you add to his distress at this time by accusing him of this ghastly crime.

Without disparaging the doc, i agree that this story has many unanswered questions and on its face does not seem quite right.

Why this family? CT is full of very rich families. Chesire is full of rich families. Why did these two thugs decide to pick this family and this house. Why was the husband allowed to live.

There's more to this story. Even the news coverage has been queer to say the least given the horrific nature of the crime. Seems CT folks just want to tsk tsk, shake their heads in make-believe grief and then sweep away this nastiness that is drawing undesired attention to the state. There is something afoul here. Where i come from, this kind of thing happens only when someone is very very pissed off. Come on folks. Let's use some gray matter and not hide out heads in the snad. Eventually the truth will come out. I feel very badly for the dr and even more bad for the pain and suffering experienced by his beautiful daughters and I'm sure his completely innocent wife.

MANY YEARS AGO I WORKED FOR THE PETIT FAMILY AT ONE OF THEIR STORES. I DID NOT MEET DR. PETIT PERSONALLY BUT NEW MANY MEMBERS OF HIS FAMIY THROUGH THE YEARS.

MANY OF THOSE I NEW HAVE GONE ON. I STILL SEE SOME OF THE COUSINS OCCASIONALLY. I NEVER NEW ANY ONE OF THEM WHO WAS NOT GIVING, KIND AND PEACEFUL.

MAY GOD GIVE EACH OF THEM STRENGTH

Look "Somethings Fishy" is right. No we are not CHILD MOLESTERS Einstein! We are intelligent freethinking but jaded citizens of Connecticut who tire of all of the corruption and murderous husbands that abound here in our fine state.

So you two are the resident experts on Dr. Petit? You know everything about his BEDROOM? You know all about his FINANCES? You know where he goes after work with his RECEPTIONIST? Come one! Did you forget Dr. Richard Crafts of Newtown back in 1986? I guess his family and friends knew him well too.

We are NOT saying these two retards should not fry for their crimes! Hell I'll volunteer to pull the damn switch! However, if Lt.Paul Vance announces in 2-3 weeks that Dr. Petit is now being considered a PERSON OF INTEREST in a RICO-ACT crime will you wake up then?

Dr. Petit doesn't have the clout of Sen. Galluci or John Rowland. He'll have to pit his intellectual skills against forensic scientists like Henry Lee and others. IF HE DIDN'T DO IT THEN FINE! I'll be the first to post an apology for even bringing it up. But if there is one stitch of evidence that he knew the Russian kid or treated him at the clinic and got the bright idea to hire a patsy - well God help him.

The facts just don't add up! Why was Petit spared!!! Violent killers don't spare ANYBODY! They don't want ANY witnesses - hello McFly????!!! These two retards have never committed a violent crime like this before. Burglars NEVER graduate to homicide unless they have a violent mentor to show them the ropes. Most burglars break in when your NOT home just to avoid this!

The Russian kid is from a rich Cheshire family. Stands to reason the doc knew the family. So whats up doc?!!!

Columbo would LOVE this case!!!

I think you should review the facts that have been published about this case. Dr. Petit was hardly spared. He was beaten to nearly beyond recognition, thrown in the basement and left for dead when the fire was set. And as far as only choosing to rob the Petit's home, they robbed 2 other homes the previous night and countless homes prior to that. Also just because they were not convicted of any violent crimes certainly does not mean they did not commit them. Perhaps they were just not caught.
That said, I am sure the police will explore all possibilities, even what is unthinkable. Why don't we leave that to them, rather than besmirch the reputation of a grieving man with your baseless conjecture. Also, please remember that Columbo and the far too many CSIs are FICTION with sensational stories to bring in ratings. Unfortunately, this story is real, with real victims.

I also agree with WatsUpDoc and Somethings Fishy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family but something is just not adding up here. Why this house? Why this family? If these two guys did rob other houses on previous nights why were those families spared the violence that the Petit family endured? Why did they hold the family hostage until the banks opened the next morning and not any of the other families they robbed? The residents of this neighborhood are well off. Why taget the Petit family? I hope there is truly no connection between the doctor and these scum bags but it just doesn't fit. These guys "left the doctor for dead" in the basement. Why didn't they poor gasoline around his body like they did to the rest of his family? The doctor then regains his conscience just as the fire is set to the house and the police just happen to find him on the lawn where he is able to tell them what happened to his family. Why didn't he check to see if he could save them?

I am not accusing anyone but there is more to this story than anyone is telling us. It will be interesting to see where this case goes over the next few weeks.

I can understand everyones questions regarding the Dr. We should not condemn the man for living however. Hopefully some good police work will bring the truth out. I tend to feel there is a reason for the escalation from burglery to rape, and murder as well. Not the usual M.O.
I can only feel so sad for the women of this family and those that loved them, and until otherwise proven, feel sad for Dr. Petit as well. There is no way to imagine a human being doing this to another. I feel the death penalty is highly justified here.

Not that it matters....but Richard Craft was not a doctor, he was an airline pilot. And Sam Sheppard's conviction was overturned and declared a miscarriage of justice. Your facts are inaccurate. You are so insensitive it is scary. This is not the time or place for your conjecture or speculation. Hit men don't spend 6 hours in a house and then go to the bank to get money and buy gasoline with a hostage. Drug crazed lunatics do that. Please take your suspicious minds elsewhere and let the rest of us grieve.

Hit men do spend 6 hours in a house if they want it to look like a robbery and not a hit. I feel sorry for the people of Cheshire who are very afraid right now and maybe as the police said "this is an isolated incident". I think this forum is a place for all ideas not a place to grieve. There is a memorial service for that tomorrow. My biggest problem with this is the fact that a witness was left, no gasoline was poured around him and he was able to get out and reach a neighbor's house, but not able to check for his family. He could not have been hurt that badly if he was talking to police that day, and be fitted for a suit all within a couple of days. The police are saying nothing, and I think it would be more helpful to allow people to express their fears and suspicions on this forum rather than call them insensitive.

I agree with you and I think the people going bezerk defending the doctor are being silly. If my wife and two children were murdered, I wouldn't care at all about my reputation, which is why I don't feel bad speculating about the doctor's possible involvement. If he had nothing to do with the murders, the last thing he'll have energy for is worrying about what a bunch of bloggers think. We should all feel free to point out the various weird aspects of this horrific crime. Yes, the two suspects are clearly guilty and should fry, but that doesn't mean the docotr wasn't involved in kicking off events that culminated in these murders. I'm not saying the doctor was involved, or if he was, that he necessarily wanted his family hurt. But the fact that he walked away -- literally- from this grusome crime scene is suspicious and is reminscent of several other crimes -- Fatal Vision and Blind Faith, just to name two - where the wives were murdered while the husbands sustained injuries that were, in comaparison, relatively minor.

You are right that the father was NOT "left for dead", which is precisely what is so fishy about this story. It is fairly easy to kill someone, or at least put someone into a coma, with a baseball bat. Yet these two thugs, one of whom is massively large and obviously very strong, left the doctor with merely a jagged scar on his forehead and a couple of black eyes. The doctor was conscious quickly enough to break out of the ties that bound him and run out of the house when the fire started. Given the time and effort they spent raping and setting afire the daughters, and the time they spent strangling the mother, it's fishy that they didn't spend a few minutes to give the doctor an extra crack on the head. If the doctor was unconscious, the thugs would have known he was still breathing. So, why not give him an extar crack on the head, or sprinkle gasoline around his body, the way they did around the daughters'?

Your post is so over-the-top that it raises questions about your sanity. It is a FACT that most murder victims are killed by people they know. It is also very odd that Dr. Petit's injuries were mild enough not to prevent his running out of his house within a few hours of sustaining the injuries. These facts don't mean Dr. Petit was invovled, of course, but calling posters "perverts" for raising the possibility is immature and, well, plain weird. If Dr. Petit had nothing to do with the murders of his wife and daughters, then his own reputation is the last thing on his mind right now.

It is easy to blaim Dr.Petit now. We do not know how we would react at the time like this.Nobody shoud hold accountable the victim for every minute. Many of us do not have explanation why we do not do something we should. Maybe he should run for the house, but noone no even the dr knows why he did not.
The realy sad point is why the police did not prevent this tragedy. They were notified and had enough time to take the action even at the bank.To take $15000 cash from the bank at early morning takes time. The police should be there within few minutes and arrest the guy who was waiting for the victim.Another police trupers should be in their house long before she returns from the bank. The killer had even time to purchase the gasoline.I wonder why the police do not want to issue any statement right now.The victim may panic, but police officers are or should be proffessionals and they should know how quick to react.
That's fisshy, very fisshy.
The police like to stop the people for unexplained traffic violetions, because that is easy. What about if we really need them?
They are usualy not there. To difficult?
But we pay their salaries to protect us not to harras us.
I wonder why nobody even raised this question.
Leave the doctor alone, he has enough of tragedy.Focus on the people who should prevent this.
Parole maybe the issue, but nobody can predict
the action of criminals.
For the crime they did they should be dead, no question about it.
Our prayers goes to the family.God help us never to see something like this again.

I just happen to peruse this blog and I realized, that I should not put any more of my tax dollars into this liberal state. Done. I got it. Thank you. Goodby. By the way my, income is in the tripple digits (and by the way again, it happened because of my hard work). The democrats in this state have this all worked out for the most of you. GFood luck. The loosers might want to stay here and enjoy this democratic majority.
