BERKELEY HEIGHTS - Union County Communication Director Sebastian D'Elia said the idea of Berkeley Heights seceding from Union County "amounts to another knee-jerk reaction to a serious issue." The idea of seceding from the county was brought up on Tuesday night at the Berkeley Heights Council meeting by Councilman Robert Woodruff.

This was reported 2 decades ago when Berkeley Heights wanted secession from Union County. Essex County was the county mentioned in 1987. Back than the average municipal household property tax was $6300 per household. Its $9300 2012 Municipal Household Property. Good Luck Berkeley Heights on finding a county that will provide relief of high taxes.
