Well, it depends who the teachers are. One would expect teachers too be well mannered. Like any place, the Goddard @ Fanwood is the same. The management will try to sell the spot - without sharing the specifics.

Some teachers are stepping up and hence are engrossed trying to fit in the role. So, forget it becomes more of a day care v/s academic place. For instance, the teachers do not have time to greet or welcome the kid and parents at drop-off and pick-up.

Bottom line, if the teacher specifically the lead has been managing the class for at least 1 year - you should be OK; otherwise the chances of your kid learning are slim.

I agree with you Ex-Goddard Fanwood. My grand-daughter goes there. The kids look upon their teachers and try to be like them with the way they talk, their expressions and everything. Now, I may be old school, but some of the things I see there, makes me very nervous.

thanks everyone for commenting on my original post in May. I decided shortly after posting to cancel my child's enrollment because I just had a bad feeling. I also was not thrilled with the cleanliness of the school. When I sat in with my child to observe with of the assistant teachers was really great - the lead teacher no so great. Unfortunately they would not refund my deposit so I was a bit annoyed (full month of tuition). The school could be great but I wasn't willing to take risk with my child.

See what piisses me off is the fact that people are so ignorant to think that just because they pay $1500 a month for childcare that means that its going to be a good school. There are alot of excellent schools that charges parents alot cheaper and pays their staff more money. But yet people will still go to goddard just for the name. Just because you pay alot doesnt mean its worth it idiots, in a recession when there are schools charging $750 or $800 a month people spend their salary on baby factories like goddard. You pay $1500 for you kids not learn and play all day..how crazy

Theres alot of excellent schools in scotch plains the school i sent my kids was excellent , both my kids were reading independantly by ages 4 and i didnt have to break the bank to do it..

I agree a waste of money!! Its pathetic how easy these franchise schools brain wash parents!! Since when did anything that is franchised become good, goddard is the mcdonald of privatized schools.. Mcdonalds use low grade food and low quality but atleast mcdonalds charges are worth their value, now imagine if mcdonalds was charging $50.00 for the big mac for the quality would it be worth it??? But of course with great advertising and stupid parents they will convince people that paying more is better. People need to stop looking at shinny things and think. yes scotch plains have great schools my daughters school is terrific, theres a couple of ex-goddard kids there and theyve share their horror stories and the amounts they spend and is not only stupid but really pathetic!!! Its just for the name parents are so insecure that they feel their kids have to be in a school thats considered accepting even at the childs expense.. Shame on the parent..

My son has been going to Goddard for over two years and I will continue his education at Goddard all the way through kindergarten. I stayed home with my son after he was born, not by choice my company closed. I had a full two years to search schools analyze and nit pick every day care and eaely lerning center... And I chose Goddard. I do agree with which treacher you get, over all I've gotten lucky and have had amazing teachers for my son. As far as him being safe, learning and being cared for as I would care for him myself they are amazing.
Also I've worked in day cares when I was young, I've been in daycares in the area when I was waiting to meet with the director and saw some speechless things. Have walked into others without anyone noticing and left in a room full of children with out an employee present.
I'm not saying one school is better or worse or the dollar amount makes it better or worse, as a parent your childs best care is where you feel comfortable leaving them for a day and knowing in your heart that they are safe. There are good and bad everywhere. I have people ask me what do you think of this place or that, but it's not my place to say, you need to walk into these places and feel comfortable yourself...

My grandson has been going to Goddard for going on three years now. The school in Buford, GA is great. His pre-K teacher knows he is above average and gives him extra work to challenge him. His parents are both teachers and would not have him anywhere else.

It's not helpful if you don't list some of these 'excellent' schools

I work at a daycare & will say no matter how much money you spend you have to look at th facts. If your child is one or younger & he is learning stuff how is he supposed to tell you about your day? I'm just saying, of course your children are going to play children learn the best through playing. As they get older you do a little less play & more work. But alot of parents forget that they must also teacher their child a thing or two. We can't do everything. As a daycare worker I highly suggest you look at school with small worker to child ratios, the smaller the class, the more attention your child gets. But realistically your child will never get one on one care at a center.

Money hungry institution! If they claim they have a waiting list, why would they want you to leave a tuition deposit just to hold a spot for your child plus the registration fee. And guess what, in the interim that you have to find another school for your child while waiting for the opening, you found out that you are happy where your child is and you don't want to disrupt your child' s routine. As a result you loose your deposit to Goddard!! Parents, before you leave that large deposit to hold a spot that you might chage your mind on, make sure Goddard is the school you want to go to. They took 2 kids deposits from us and i asked to refund one but they refused because of their policy. They are not very considerate at all, just care more about the money and does not want to work with the parents. Did not like the atmosphere once i walked in that school, wished i had checked it out myself before letting my husband make that big deposit!
