The sample test questions came right out of the LD's that POST had put there for the cadets to due a self assessment test on the material. The answere were also in the LD. What is being looked at is how the actual POST test questions that are under lock and key got out.LD 43 Emergancy Management test questions all 143 of them, somehow got put out there. Its just like if someone hacked into their computers.

Rio Hondo is a tragedy from many perspectives. From the suspension of 60 academy students in their 13th week, many of whom were pursuing a life-long dream, to the ethical compromises of those either complicit or who passively allowed the corrosion of compromise to eat at our Code of Ethics, the foundational principles that garners trust of each other, trust from the community, and trust in our roles in the system of American jurisprudence.
Trust in what we do results in pride in who we are. This is a pillar of public service.
With that said, I ask and encourage you to summon courage to come forward should you possess material information that refutes, corroborates or exonerates individuals close to this incident.

Rio Hondo Staff did it right. And would due it again even knowing what would happen. To bad some other academy in the area would not have done what Rio Staff did. Have you found out how LD 43 questions got out, all 143? We heard that one of the POST instructors training the trainers gave out the DVD with the questions on it, and that was done with a POST rep sitting in class.

This will blow over once they figure out nothing wrong was done... funny how everyone "knows" something about this... and I say the following as PURE SPECULATION on my part.
1. What if the sample questions provided many years back by POST to cadets as part of a once published (and now discontinued) "self assessment quiz?"
2. What if these quiz questions ended up as part of the 2010 testing material?
3. How wrong would it be if POST used these old study guide questions on testing materials for 2010 just to save time/money?
Hmmmmmmm...
Trust in the system folks... the investigators will do their job and get to the root of the problem; even if it means the problem is within POST. I just hope these folks and the fine academy up at Rio Hondo don't take the blame for something that is actually POST's fault.
I especially hope that POST would admit their mistake if one was made...

Sorry, "Ole Bob" that you are upset because police officers can retire at 90% after 30 years of service. That is 30 years of working every shift imaginable, seeing the worst that man can do to another human being, running to a frightening and dangerous situation when every instinct in your body tells you to run away like everybody else is doing. And yes "Ole Bob" even going to the homes of ignorant, uninformed, hateful people like yourself to help you if needed.
Get a clue buddy before you open your mouth and once again say something profoundly ridiculous.
Well said!

Nothing surprises me anymore. These LD's having been around for a long time now.
I can't believe that a trainging instructor gave out the DVD. Everyone should get their money back and some. It's too bad this happened. It happend at FCPA but only a few got kicked in the head and others well got jobs right away by cheating their butts off! It's really sad for the people that really tried and didn't cheat.

I guess a lot of you don't know much about the subject. There are no allegations of cadets cheating of any answers given to anyone in the academy. I suggest you give POST a call for the accurate information. For all of you that don't know, all academy classes that were suspended have all been cleared by the State commission from any wrong doing.

How much did that cost the school?

I am sure it cost the school plenty! It not the money it's their reputation!
Do you think that anyone was going to admit to something like this happening. HECK NO! They need new officers. Most departments go through them like a number 2 pencils. Like I said, honesty and ethics starts at the top. Did you hear about the Costa Mesa Chief and his brass today. No, because it was in such small print in the LA Times. Our whole world is so corrupt!!!

It is common knowledge that certain academy recruits are given the answers to tests and otherwise given passing grades by the instructors at direction of a few police chiefs. I guess it is good to teach future officers it is quite alright to lie, cheat and steal as long as nobody catches you.
Sorry, but you're wrong.

I now want to go to this academy more than any other academy. The fact that the academy staff turned themselves into POST makes me believe that they truly hold themselves to a very high standard. Integrity, is the most important asset/core value of any Police officer. The fact that they practice what they preach is incredibly important. Looking forward and anxiously waiting for Class 9 to start!

Computers being taken in the tac office, the dean of public safety resigning, tac officers let go from their positions, hmmmm, that doesn't happen to people who aren't doing anything wrong. In addition, classes are switched over to LASD to protect the cadets futures and reputations so they could finish from an academy that has so many issues and some insubordinate staff. The academy has been under investigation, not the cadets.Keep the select few who teach and actually help cadets, and get rid of those who just read the learning domain instead of teaching, tell irrelevant stories and show unprofessional videos, and hide out in the tactical office.

An academy that does not have insubordinate staff and issues is LASD.

Let's not forget:
- LASD's academy was on "POST probation not too long ago.
- All academy curriculum is standardized throughout the state.
- "Tac Officers" should be referred to as "Recruit Training Officers." (POST)
**** New academy modular format scheduled for November 1, 2011.****

First off, lemme say:

It appears as though some test questions were on a study guide. The institution "self reporting" to Cali police standards.

I'm no fan of the "police state" that America has become.

But as a graduate from Rio Hondo Police Academy 18 years ago, I can say that it wasn't "easy" as some above have said. If you've been in the military, it is a bit tougher than basic training with the caveat that you have actual book work - its like doing basic training and a semester of college at the same time. Very little sleep and a LOT of running - I didn't run as much in the Army. Oh, and the HILLS! I shudder every time I drive by.

Some of my classmates are still cops - most everyone at that academy was a good, straight honest guy. We had blacks, whites, asians, anglos and we were all brothers and sisters. We all worked hard and together - I'd have to say it was a closer team than most military units.

AND WE STUDIED! It was no easy ride. Probably the easiest thing for me was the shooting (I'm a natural).

Yes, for those who have a bone to pick with cops, its not all cops - the bad apples get the press.

I went through Rio's class of 100. It is true that the Marshal Cadets were given full study guides for the tests. These guides were worded too similar to the actual qestions. Study the guides and you had to get 90-100%. This was to ensure that their cadets held the majority of the top ten spots. As an Preservice cadet not attached to a department, it was hard maintaining my top ten standing. This was clearly a sign of cheating. Many of us said nothing because we would have been black listed. The academy new this was going on and has been going on for a long while.

Quit your whinning! You chose your occupation. No one forced you into law enforcement! The truth is that it is a job and you deserve pat on the shoulder for your work. However, there are a lot of cops out there that should not be on the force. Attitudes are all wrong, the good-old-boy network has allowed those that should not be wearing the badge to wear one!

class 100 here. I remember when the class had a problem with the 5150 test and if I remember right, the marshal service cadets did just fine. I also remember the marshals cadets would not study with others.
