the rules and regs usually don't have anything to do with rent increases...look at your lease. also if you have no rent control..you are screwed..get rent control

I recently moved into a mobile home park. They are raising the rent in January and I was told by others, they raise the rent every January! I won't be able to afford to stay here at this rate. Isn't there any agency that prevents this from happening to us?

Russia has alot of places where they never raise the rent. Here your choice is to move somewhere else or pay it. That is the nature of a free market.

My question is i have rented one bed room apartment and i started with $599 and the landlord raised my rent from$599 to $649 in the year 2008 and this coming year i received a notice saying that the rent will be raised from $649 to $659 in 2009 , i just want to know if it right for the landlord to do such a thing or i need to report it, i live in Minnesota.

The landlord can raise your rent 1000% if he wants. Your choice is to pay it or move. If it is too high and you leave and no one else will pay that amount. He will either have to lower it or leave it vacant. That is how supply and demand works you moron.

Russia and China have some great rental control units available. You pay rent and they control where you live, what you eat, what work you do, what hours you work and what you get paid.

Sign a lease and if I am correct the rent cannot be raised for the term of the lease.

I also believe rents are capped at a max of 20% every year or something like that.

I could be wrong, but I remember something of the sort, space rent may be a little different though...

Wow. seems like you all are feeling the sting of greed. We need to do somthing to stop this. Greed is a disease that spreads to every corner of the land. If the shoe was on the other foot, im sure you all would be just as greedy. Thats a fact of human life. Greed is the cause of the global economic problem we are all in now. Sooner or later the s h i t will hit the fan and you all will only be thinking of survival. ENJOY

actually, property taxes are going down, but you have the right idea. rents generally go up with supply/demand.

that is true in the current market, and like you said its based upon supply and demand. If they do raise their rents to high, they may have many tenants move and thus have vacancies therefore losing money. On the other hand, it may be they have increased the rate for years on a particular unit and may possibly be losing money

Rent Control will be the norm with our new president. We will probably even have subsidies for vacations and cell phones. What ever happened to our free market economy?
