Another Ellicott Victim

United States

I just read some of the correspondence of Mr. Kandel above. My experience was similar in many respects. Mr. Ellicott seems "incorrigible" and is continuing to misstreat his clients it seems from what Mr. Kandel wrote above. I naively thought he MIGHT change once his serious transgressions were brought to his attention. No way! I feel sorry for his present and future clients. Apparently he won't learn to be a better man until someone takes him to court for disbarment and/or he loses a large malpractice case. Even then he's probably going to "blame the victim" instead of looking at himself. I don't know why he doesn't "wise up"? My guess is that his lack of ethics is a form of social pathology on his part based on poor training as a youth from his parents because it appears he CANNOT improve himself and CANNOT improve his treatment of his fellow humans--or so it seems after reading the statement and correspondence above from Mr. Kandal? I hope someday Mr. Ellicott will prove me wrong!:o)

Here's the thing, "Another Ellicott Victim", lawyers are trained to basically be unethical, to not care, to not be emotionally attached to their clients nor the outcomes of their cases. They are trained to take any position on any issue and argue to the best of their ability for that position.

Lawyers play a game of Chess with YOUR life -- win or lose, whether or not they even played a decent game, they go on to play another game. You live with the results and they don't.

I get it now; I didn't get it then. Let the buyer beware. Shame on both of us for not doing more due diligence. I will NEVER make that mistake again!!

Related to attorneys, if I ever need one again, I will only use a lawyer rated "10" on www.AVVO.com . An attorney rated "10" on that site will be a badass, that I now know. But I didn't know it then and such is life. You live and you learn.

The fact is, I relentlessly strive for self-improvement in all aspects of my life and thus reflect on my shortcomings and failures in a meaningful way. So I guess Vernon Ellicott did my a favor by being such a lousy attorney. He helped open my eyes to all the bullshit in the legal system ...

Wow, not even a year after the post and things have not changed. The worst divorce lawyer, he gives his profession a bad name. Stay away from him! Save your money! You might as well be representing yourself, all you are to him and his staff is a way to get money from you. I am shocked that he is still in practice. He certainly knows how to put on the charm at the initial "free" consultation but once you have signed and paid the retainer "hasta la vista". That retainer money will be gone in a blink of an eye and he will ask for additional money to be placed in the "trust fund". He NEVER return calls or e-mails and NEVER lets you know how your case is going. You can be sure of only one thing, you will get that invoice for the messages you left and the e-mails you sent. I finally had to hire another lawyer to clean up the mess he made of my case. I wish I had checked the reviews on him and not just checked the BBB and Ca State Bar. HE JUST DOES NOT CARE.

Do not hire! My experience with him was EXACTLY like his other victims who have posted here. I strongly suspect that any positive review he has is bogus. Wish I would have done more research before hiring him and throwing several thousands of dollars away!!! He should be disbarred!!!

Was looking for a professional attorney...
The fact that you would bother responding to some lame ass idiots is far from professional.
I'll still be looking.3061

After I heard someone won their malpractice case with Vernon Ellicott as the defendent...I hoped he had "learned a lesson". But....the negative reviews continue year after year! He didn't learn anything! Someday someone will sue him for A LOT OF MONEY...or have him disbarred. Someday! Not today but someday. George Shaw

Thank you for your post. I just saw it. Attorneys face some interesting dilemmas when unhappy clients post things on social media. Some "experts" say to respond to the inaccuracies in each post (and there are many in these posts). Others say to ignore the posts. We cannot ethically defend ourselves online because we cannot breach the attorney-client privilege--even when the poster is completely mistaken. We also face a dilemma over fees. Attorneys, like everyone else, need to be paid. Sometimes the case turns out to be more expensive than we originally thought, and sometimes it turns out worse than we hoped. I do not understand why people get mad when the original funds run out and the attorney says more money will be needed to complete the case. Of course attorneys send bills out. Doctors, dentists and accountants do the same thing. You wouldn't take your car into a shop and then expect the shop to give you the car back completely repaired without paying for the repair. You wouldn't expect your accountant to give you your tax return without paying for it first. I am sure someone will be unhappy with this post and again tell me I am unethical and only after money. I usually find that happens when they run out of money and want me to work for free. I then become unethical if I don't. Ethics are extremely important to me, but I fail to see why anyone is unethical or greedy because they want to be paid for their services. I certainly agree that cases do not always turn out the way the client or I would like. Yes, sometimes I am surprised by the judge's decisions, as every attorney has been. And clients sometimes misunderstand their bills. But, I work very hard for my clients and no one has been cheated or lied to by me. Please let me know if you think this response is anything less than professional.
