Candidate Finnegan loses civil service fight

Full story: The Ukiah Daily Journal

Mendocino County District Attorney candidate Matt Finnegan did not get his job back from incumbent DA Meredith Lintott after a Civil Service arbitrator rejected Finnegan's side of the story in a scathing opinion which concluded he was antagonistic to women superiors and did not heed instructions.

Don't know Eyster, have heard plenty, not much of it good - except he is reasonably capable in the courtroom and does his homework, but a vindictive jerk to work with.
I think you have David Eyster confused with somebody else on your last point. While I no longer work for the county, I previously worked with David when he was in the DA's Office. Did you notice I said worked "with" instead of worked for? David was the coolest boss. He knew every job in the office and could sit down at any employee's desk, know that employee's job, and know what to do. He never acted like he was better than the rest of us. While we all knew that he was the hot shot trial attorney, he didn't act that way. He ALWAYS treated me and everybody else in the office with respect. He didn't threaten people and he didn't call people names. No way he's vindictive and no way he's a jerk. I'd work with him again anytime. Sorry, Willyte, somebody fed you misinformation.

I don't know about the jerk part, but not vindictive? Ask Susan Massini about that one. After she fired him, he sued to get his job back. That cost the County a bunch of money. As a taxpayer, I really object to that.

Then he also launched a non stop jihad against Massini when she ran for judge. He worked for her for years and never had a bad word to say. As soon as he got dumped she was the worst boss, worst attorney, totally incompetent and unqualified, etc.

Sounds a lot like like him and the ex-wife. And the kids still talk to her, not him. You figure it out.

Slow down, really now. You are speeding so fast that you've missed reality. In my neighborhood Massini wouldn't win a race for dogcatcher. You immediately lose credibility when you bring up her name. You must be new if you don't remember that she got dumped because, to be nice, she had lost touch with the community (like Lintott?) Not sure whether the county paid money but if it did Massini was the blame (the side who is right doesn't pay $$$). Dumping her best attorney (Eyster) for political reasons is alot like Lintott dumping Faulder. More rotten mgmt. Finally, if Eyster was against Massini being a judge, then we should thank him for performing a public service. If my memory serves me, I believe Eyster also supported Vrorman over Massini, yet another public service. Gee whiz, we should nominate the guy for sainthood.

Oh, right! Vroman was a disgrace. The best pot growing, tax evading, selective enforcer of the laws we ever had. Vroman thought it was just fine to grow all the pot you want and for convicted felons to possess guns. He also didn't take domestic violence seriously or bother with environmental crimes. Vroman also cost the County $100.000. for prosecuting the head of the Child Support offfice for slamming a door and yelling at a staffer just because he didn't like the guy. If that is Eyster's role model for DA, then good luck.

And it is fine to support who you want for political office, but the point was, is Eyster vindictive? And based on the unrelenting venom with which he went after Massini, the answere is yes, he is clearly vindictive. Or maybe its just a gender thing. Based on the nasty divorce he does not seem to handle it well when a woman disagrees with him.

Given the innuendo and personal attacks found in this forum, methinks I should have stayed on vacation. It is obvious that Eyster wouldn't be under personal attack if he wasn't the most qualified for the job. I laughed the hardest at the claim that his friends are able to figure out who to call from just reading the trash posted by the flacks. That's a hoot, little bird (no pun intended). My advice? Go to bed earlier and you won't hallucinate as much. As for "My Thoughts," put on your thinking cap before you start typing. You may also want to look up the word gullible. Game OVER!

...how many licks does it take?

Seriously, if you read ALL the blog postings the personal attacks seem pretty equally disbursed among all three candidates. I think you need to decide what is important to you - adherence and enforcement of the law - how is the best of that job? I have my opinion, but will cast my vote privately.

Thanks for the advice. I did read the whole UDJ article, as well as the follow-up comments. I also read the AVA's version of the events. Read together, methinks any criticism of Finnegan seems warranted and disqualifies him. Me also thinks the paper needs to print/post the whole Finnegan report. Lintott is not even in the running. I didn't vote for her last time and I feel superior to those who did, given her poor performance. So you know, I was on a jury years ago where Eyster was the prosecutor. He was impressive, presented a good case, and explained the law well to us. Jury deliberations were quick as a result. What is important to me is that we get a DA who knows what he is doing. That isn't Lintott and Finnegan is too much of a loose cannon. Game OVER!

P.S. Why are there so many posts originating from Guerneville?

I have recently had the experience of working in the same environment as Matt. I am an older woman with a mind of my own. Matt was always respectful, humerous, polite and a pleasure to be around.
