my youngest daughter who went to irondaleelementary school got hurt on a landscape timber that was hiding under gravel while playing ion the playground i was grocery shopping and came home to find out that she sat all day in school woth a broken wrist the only call on the answering machine was the pricipal saying andie hurt her arm a boy shoved her down and we are sure its nothing major we are sending her back to class but she keeps complaining and the nurse is in another school so before we do anything we are going to have a nurse look at it it will take another half hour we will call you. so i waited thinking maybe it was minor and the nurse finally called me to come get her when i got there and took her to the hospital i found out it was broke i went to a lawyer but nothing really got done about it except when the lawyer called the school to let them know i went there then they repeatedly was rude and my daughter was told when she sold candybars she was top seller when the prize thing came they refused to let her participate she got no prize then my oldest daughter started getting harassed on the bus by this really mean neighbor boy i had to call stanton middle school even though they stress about bullying being wrong they refused to address the situation and my oldest daughter is handicapped anyhow i believe teachers are there to protect our children not ignore their needs also back to my youngest daugther i consented to medical release forms meaning if i was not able to be contacted they could have an ambulance send her to the hospital they indtead tell her to quit whining like a baby and go back to class repeatedly trying to get her to write knowing that was her writing hand it still gives her problems to this day also again why do the teaches, regaurdless what money situation they have what gives them the right to ignore our childrens safety i canactually see a bigger problem with little kids being in the same building with the older kids thats why i am trying to move this school who i thought was great turned out to be a nightmare.....also i had to give the shool nurse a medical release because irondale only let the kids use the bathroom no more than 2 times a day and if they did they got time out from recess since when is bathroom rights a punishment my daughter took a medicine for adhd which stated that a symptom was excessive bathrrom use may occur i had to get a slip stating that before they finally gave her permission to use it when needed...trust me this is wrong and i believe it will still continue i moved up here 2 years ago from belmont county was told the school was alot better than belmont county schools thought it was and found out i was wrong its like a school out of the horror movies i hope when we move i find a better school

We have done some investigating on our own and have turned up several items of interest in addition to the strike. Please take a look at our site www.ohiovalleynow.com for more details. Some of these items are cause for serious alarm. With the impending strike coming up these may be interesting items to review and consider whether or not the Edison Local School Board should be removed and replacements be elcted to hopefully run the district properly.

I have 2 sons in the district that I will not be sending as well. I feel that as a union family we need to support the teachers. The offer the board wants the teacher's to accept I feel is wrong. Yes, they will get raises but their health coverage is going up. So, in essence, their raises are gone. My family has insurance coverage through medical mutual and those teacher's will probably end up paying more than just their premiums out of their pockets. My gripe is that if our district is so financially strapped, then where is this money coming from to pay subs $200.00 a day and hire Imac for security? Wouldn't it be better to bargain with the teachers? The superintendant and the board need to get their heads out of the clouds and back to the bargaining table. This is only going to hurt our kids.

It truely amazes me that the ELSD "expects" tax payers to vote in favor of a levy. I was in attendence for the fiscal caution meeting... WHAT A JOKE!! Mrs. Charmicheal BEAT AROUND THE BUSH! They sure showed where they deducted from the budget, but HELLO!! YOU OBVIOUSLY ADDED TO IT SOMEWHERE!! I really have mixed feelings about voting yea/ney for a levy because I do feel my child deserves to attend a newer school with up to date technology. Hey, if Steubenville can do it why not us? Why not us?! I know why... because our leaders in our school system DO NOT LISTEN TO THE PUBLIC / PARENTS (Obviously our TEACHERS TOO)!! You know I do realize that our district hasn't passed an operating levy since the 70's, but IS THAT MY FAULT?- BY NO MEANS. FIRST! and FOREMOST PROVE TO ME THAT YOU CAN "TRUELY MANAGE" what you've been given & quit jerking my kids around from school to school. I MIGHT consider voting yes. I know that I DON'T have the answers, but it looks as if the people that we've trusted to be in charge DON'T Either. WHAT A MESS!! I do expect better,I wish that the Board & Leadership of the school would be made to go into some "EFFECTIVE" schools in the area to get a better look at where they can GREATLY
IMPROVE! Dear God, give them understanding and wisdom, open their understanding that what they are doing is not working, show them what to do, AMEN |

The only way to get a positive relationship between the administration and the edison voters is to remove the current administration. The election showed that we need new leaders with a positive outlook. We need leadership who will honestly do what is best for the kids. We need people to stand up to the current superintendent and not be afraid of a no vote. Have you ever seen five people agree to EVERYTHING, as the current board does?

A letter sent home with students that attended school today has taken away excused absences for the students during this strike. Previously it had been decided that all students that did not attend school during this strike caused by the Edison District School Board would be excused. Now Lisa Carmichael, in here true to form back stabbing actions, as revoked this decision. It simply amazes me that this woman and the Edison School Board continue to just do as they please without any type of reprimand. It is absolutely ridiculous and unprofessional for this type of behavior to exist in our school system and for nothing to come of it is just absurd all the way around.
Why would I continue to send my children to school when Lisa Carmichael can not even give an accurate count of subs currently in the schools? Why would I send my children to school when Lisa Carmichael denies access to the subs BCI background checks? Why would I send my children to school when the subs leave at 2:15 and leaving the children with the aides? Why would I send my child to school when no school nurse? With only 51 eligible subs on a list to take the place of 140 teachers, I highly doubt this is neither a safe environment nor an educational environment. Speaking of safe, it has come to our attention that one of the subs currently on the list as a sub for the Edison Local School District just happens to be one of the subs let go from during the Harrison Strike for touching an 8th grade girl! If the intention of Lisa, the Weasel, Carmichael was truly to keep our children safe then she would actually try and negotiate a fair contact with the teachers instead of turning this event into finger pointing contest. She thinks she has the upper hand right now due to the ruling from Judge Henderson to limit picketers and their actions. Taking excused absences away form the students right now is just in response to the charges filed against her for Unfair Labor practices. She is like a two year old that didn't get her way – she is throwing a temper tantrum directed at our children. Rumor has it she will be leaving her position as superintendent and moving onto the MRDD. Either she is intentionally trying to get fired from her current position so the Board has to honor her contract OR she is trying to prove to the MRDD that she can act like the people she will be handling. No wonder the Edison School District is in such peril. She and the board make a decision and then can't make up their minds afterwards and turn around and reverse that decision. More than likely this is how they appropriated the funds left over after giving themselves hefty raises and giving OAPSE a real contract that OAPSE was allowed to accept. One minute they figure they would not give it away and stuff it in their own pockets and the next decide they feel generous to a select few, including themselves still and decide on sharing a bit. Of course this is all just speculation and our own opinions, but if you really think about it, it does make sense. I think before The Weasel leaves her current position a FULL audit should be done by the state and for all the discrepancies that are found she should be held accountable. Maybe fraud and misappropriations of funds would look good on her resume, but then again who around is actually taking a real stance against her and knocking her off her little perceived pedestal? As far as I am concerned, children should stay at home under the "Act of God" bullet listed in the letter sent home. What Act of God am I referring too? If there is a god it has to be by his/her own mercy that he allows such a despicable serpent like Lisa Carmichael be the superintendent in charge our children and their young impressionable minds. |

I had the priveledge of attending Edison in Hammondsville in the late 80's when it was Stanton and my parents both graduated from there. Back then it was a nice school. I moved and finished out in East Liverpool and overheard the principal say that they recieve an enormous amount for each student from the state. Teachers now a days are in it for the money, not education. I recently had my boy removed from school because of numerous problems with the teachers here at Crestview Local and he is now doing home schooling through ECOT. He went from D-F to A-B. The principal there said they plan to do homeschooling through Crestview because there has been so many students resign from the school and now attends home based schooling. They have to realize that these children are America's future. They need an education to survive in this world today. Thank you for allowing me to voice my opinion.
