Dropped off a weed eater here, manager said they would call before they did anything to it. When it was picked up after about 2 weeks,(they didn't call) the charge was $49.95 and the repair man told me it needed a new carburetor which could run between forty and a little over one hundred dollars. Meanwhile on the wall hung the same brand new weed eater (homelite) for $69.95 I asked the man what he did for this, he said he did a standard tune up, no new parts. He just adjusted the air intake on it.It ran 2 weeks and would not start again. Was just wondering if anyone else has been burnt like this? If it needed all this, why didn't they call and let my mother who is close to seventy years old get a new one. Wth

Sorry you had such bad luck. I buy sometimes at Ace, if I'm in area and it's something simple, but do my yard tool business at Montgomeries (yes, know I spelled it wrong!) they are fair and treat you good down there.

go down Prospect in front of Boone Tavern like you are going to Big Hill, you will go past Christmas Ridge, the duplexes and on. It is small white farm store on right just before Silver Creek Church.

First thing is you need a better weedeater than the 69.95 throw away model. Is the Ace you are refering to here in Berea, or in Richmond?

Secondly, I agree Montgomery's will treat you right.

I am surprised. I haven taken a trimmer, a chain saw and a lwn mower there this year and have had excellent service from them. They called before they did any work, other than the analysis, and have had my equipment working fine since then.

Maybe it was just that you had one of those old reconditioned models that was all worn out.

No it was not reconditioned, did you not read the top post. You missed the entire point.

Thanks, I'll try montgomery's. I'm referring to the berea ace hardware. They are good to help when you go in there, I just couldn't believe they tuned it up and charged her so much.

If you have a small yard, I suggest you consider one of the battery power units. I bought one of the 18 volt Black and Decker weed trimmers a short time ago. The weed trimmer comes with two batteries. Each battery last about 20 minutes. The advantage is, no gas, no fumes, light weight, environmentally friendly. The cost was sightly under $100.00.

Hopefully you went to the Richmond store. I went to the Berea one a few times and as a long-time Richmond customer I can tell you it's nowhere near the same level of service (particulaly in expertise and attitude). The employees are usually huddled in a pow-wow and act like you're interruping them (especially if one of the younger girls is in the conversation and you're trying to get a male worker to help).

The service from the Richmond store is from a long-gone time. Even the Lowe's employees have become (somewhat) more engaged toward customers and I believe the service level at Ace at the least influenced it.

I agree. You'll be amazed what can be done "cordless" these days. If you don't need the motor, then don't pay for one.

That 69.95 so-called throw away model lasted 8 years!
