I am looking for women in the area who have had complications from a hysterectomy that was operated on by Dr. Gina Land in Richmond.
Several women I know have had major complications that have impacted their lives.
I would like to try to prevent other women from having the same operation by this doctor.

I had a hysterectomy some time ago and have suffered terribly since then. I got a hernia after the operation and she told me there was nothing there to herniate. It was not until i later seen another doctor that the herniation was found. I have also had trouble with my bladder. She did not want to help me with this. alot of women suffer in silence because of a doctor who is not skilled enough to operate. it effects their whole lives.I am not from berea but am from richmond, seen this and had to respond.

I saw this and had to reply. I had a complete hysterectomy several years ago. The operation was done by a good doctor from Richmond,Ky. His name is Dr. Michael Gordon. I haven't had any complications. I started hormone replacement soon after the operation and I'm still on them today. It has been 23 years. I know the good and bad of hormone replacement. I did my research before I decided to go that route. I found the good out weighs the bad. I really believe I couldn't have lived; if I hadn't had the operation. The problems were so bad. I'm so sorry your operations weren't a success. I hope you can get relief. I can't handle pain.

I had a hysterectomy about 6 years ago, and have been on hormones ever since. My doctor now has decided I need to go off the hormone. She says you do not need to stay on them any longer than you have to and advises me to begin to wean myself off them. I do not understand why. I know many people like Polly, who have been on them a lot longer than I have. Any advise?

It's your body. You are in control. I can't tell you what to do. I know what I would do if I were in the same situation. I will stay on them for rest of my life. You only have problems without them. If I let mine go over, I can tell I just don't feel so good in so many ways. I can't deal with the night sweats, etc. I get mine in an injection every month( at the same time).I do not take pills. This method is all I've ever had. Sometimes doctors doesn't explain everything you need to know. My doctor told me I would never have osteoporosis in my older age. Now understand, I have my annual tests when they are due.I'm very faithful with that.

I too had a lot of problems and had no choice but to have the surgery. Dr. Land did mine and I did not have any problems at all. She was great with my surgery and it was actually the best thing I have ever done. But I do not understand them wanting me to go off the hormones. Is there a difference in taking the pills or the monthly shot?

like I said I haven't had my surgery yet but she suggested that I take a herbal supplement called black Cohosh this really helped me with the hot flashes and it supports estrogen balence. Dr. Gordon done my first c-section and totally screwed me up and then Dr. Land done a procedure on me and I had no problems and she also done my last c-section and I had no problems with it either so I think I trust her to do my hystorectomy good luck

First of all, I would never take an herbal of any kind for hormones. The reason I decided on a shot rather than a patch or pills. I do not like taking pills of any kind. I have acid-reflux. My friend had the patches. She said they wouldn't stay on, so Dr. Gordon and I decided the best for me were the monthly shots. He said they get into the blood-stream faster and they are time-released according to your body. He also said the shots don't cause a weight problem over a long period of time. You really need to have a time of getting them monthly, as to when you would have had your monthly period. I will tell you, I haven't had any side effects. I feel in my heart, I went the right road on this issue. I am 63 years old

Dr. Land is a very good doctor. Minnie, I'm sorry you are having problems but chances are you probably would have them no matter what doctor did your surgery. I don't know much about hormone replacement. I still have one ovary so I haven't had to deal with that. Thank the lord!

Hi, i am from kirksville area and I had a Hysterectomy last year for mainly bleeding. Since then I have developed prolaspe, first bladder then bowel.I am so disapointed in all this. I was fine before the operation just heavy periods. I am so saddened by all this, i feel ruined.
I cannot turn back time, wish i could. I will have to have another operation in the future to fix what the hysterectomy done to me. Once your uterus is removed your chance of prolapse is high. Please consider other treatments before you have this operation. The doctor's don't tell you everything and you could in up regretting it later. Sure my prolaspe does not really hurt, but mentally i know it is there, it is hard to see but still i feel ruined. Don't let your doctor's tell you this can't happen, Dr. land is a good doctor but she is not the brightest doctor. They keep things from you. Do your research... ask the doctor if they would have a hysterectomy for bleeding.(chances are they wouldn't) Pray for me, i am upset with all this, I am 39 and feel 80! I was once so energetic and i am now so depressed i feel weak. Ladies, a hysterectomy should only be performed for severe prolaspe or cancer, not for irregular periods. How dumb was I not to have ask more questions. I switched doctors and have one in Lexington who is helping me get my hormones straightened out. Dr. land said i would not need them! haha. Whatever, she also made like i did not have a prolaspe,(was she covering her own butt!) I know other women who are in the same boat with me, not all had Dr. land for a doctor, some had their operations else where. I am a professional business woman and i am on the go all the time, i try not to let this bother me, but i can't help it, i worry about the future and what damage this will cause later down the road... if only... i would have not listened to my doctor, if only... i would have got another opinion, if only... i could go back

this happened to me although about 6 years after my hysterectomy. I must be common. I had a friend who had a hysterectomy for prolaspe and they fixed her at the time of her operation, she did this 25 years ago and is still fine, very active woman, rides atv's and horses. But me, i had hysterecomy for fibroids and noticed a rectocele(bowel hernia) last fall. Doctor said it was not causing problems and do nothing about it right now. I have coped with it mentally the best i can. Sure i get depressed sometimes because i think it would not have happened it i had not had the operation. No alternatives were given to me at the time. I thought the hysterectomy would have solved all my problems and it did for the first 6 years. I continue to ride my horse and look after my 4 kids and husband but in the back of my mind i get sad... take care... at least we don't have cancer or some other fatal disease. some people have it worse than we do. Mine was only found after a exam, it can't be seen other wise.

I got my hormones lined out... i feel better mentally. I am sorry for your prolaspe problems, but i also know of several women also this has happened to. women don't always talk about this. I know women who have never had hysterectomys that prolasped after having their children. It is a common condition in a lot of women. I guess women have to deal with a lot... hope you feel better

A lot of women deal with bladder fallen after child birth or a hysterecty. YOu have heard women say when they laugh hard they pee! Well it is common. Try not to be to hard on yourself, you would probably have this problem even if you had not had the hysterectomy, at least that is what I have heard. As long as you are not in pain and it is not visible don't worry about it. It is starts causeing problems then get medical help. I know women who have this problem and still live very active lives, running, walking, dancing you name it.
