Hey Diddle you coverd the hole town of Berea, and then some.Thank for the memories.
#25 Oct 6, 2010
Yes, there was a restaurant there called "Bluegrass Diner". Stopped there once. It's actually still standing. It closed down for a long time. They set up a haunted house there probably around 76-78.
Darryl Shepherd bought it and it became Shepherds Home Furnishings. After Darryl went out, if I'm correct, his children bought it and it became Midway Furniture.
It's hard to imagine US 25 being the main road before the interstate. Yes kiddies, once upon a time in OUR generation, there really wasn't an interstate running through Berea!!!
How's cause no one mentioned Peoples Restaurant? If it was mentioned, forgive me. Spent many a night going over there to unwind after "a night of adventure"...>;)!!! THOSE WERE THE DAYS (hehehe, nights)!!!
By the way, I remember a store called Malony's. I'm pretty sure I shopped in Malony's. The problem is, my brain just farted and I can't remember where Malony's was!!!!
Also, before Piggly Wiggly, that store was called Pic-Pac. The Mini Mall was Ben Franklin, back in the day. Hecks had the whole building where the pet shop, Dollar General, and Goodwill is. Across, I remember that IGA was in there. Jeanette and Kenneth Conn ran it.

Ok, I'm late with Peoples/Sweet Betty's. I don't know how you did it, but GOOD JOB!!!

Boone Trail Truck Stop was where the Attic is now.
Bluegrass Truck Stop was where Shephard's Furniture was.
Tressler Comet Truck Stop was where Blue Grass Enegry is now.
Tressler Comet (aka Madison Truck Stop)moved in the mid-70's to where Loves is now at Booneboro. Some called it TC Truck Stop and here's why:

You left out the Meadowlark Market, where Sipple's is now and the old Berea Market (later it was Bick's Hardware). Where was the MAD Market?
#30 Oct 6, 2010
Thanks, CL (I'm a CL too)
I really need to update this. What was the name of the sports center next to Papa Johns that opened and closed in like a month or so? If anyone has some additions, please let me know. I've kept this list for a years and add to it when I think of something but I miss a lot these days since stuff changes so quickly.
#31 Oct 6, 2010
Hey diddle I take it you have no life
#32 Oct 6, 2010
Actually he is very smart and he knows a lot about Berea! Maybe you dont?
#33 Oct 6, 2010
MAD market was where Sipples is. The owner was Alma-something I actually found their old sign at a house at 400 center st. before the house was torn down. I offered it to Mike Sipple but he did not want it.
Ma Bickford did have a grocery where the hardware store was (now AT&T Cellular.
Hurshel Jones & Don Combs had a car was in the defunct Phillips 66 station where the old Save-A-Lot is now. Same location of Bent tree Enegry before it moved on the hill behind the Animal Shelter.(Mitch Mullins owned Bent tree and at one time, the Nursing home.)
#34 Oct 6, 2010
I guess I had forgot that Meadowlark Market/Mad Market was one and the same (gosh that place has been gone for years). Wasn't Mrs. Bickford's name Alma? I know her son Jack had the Bick's hardware store.
#35 Oct 6, 2010

#37 Oct 6, 2010
You are 100% correct. Ma died in 2007 at 97 years young. I always called her, Ma, for personal reasons. She was a very, very nice lady. Her and her husdand, Estill, also had a son named James Estill Bickford who was a Brig. General. Ma now rests in the Berea Cemetery.
#38 Oct 6, 2010
Also forgot Dairy Barn home of the mini burgers, Owner Bill Miller.
#39 Oct 6, 2010
Homer Jennings was up the hill. Frequently called the Dependable; 1st business on the right going north on north broadway. Next to Bill Scott's body shop where the Wheeler brothers worked. Anyone remember Frick Johnson and Bill Scott's antics? You would have thought they wanted to kill one another. Frick spreyed Bill with dog spray once for a joke...
Bob Huff was as you say, where Issacs Roofing is (well WAS).
The motel across for the hospital was Moore's Motel.(Owned by George Moore).
Yes, the old dump is exactally where the skate park is now. I've shot a many rat there. So did Ronnie Devere and a host of others. Prior to that it was Hamm (Lawson Hamilton) coal company. And later it was home to a concrete plant.
Anyone remember the jail being on the corner of Adams street and Farmers hill?
#40 Oct 6, 2010
Corina, would that be the same Bill Miller that now (er, did may still does) own Cannon Corner Citgo at Duncannon and 25? Had a son named Lee?
