My wife's co-worker is 54, she told us it was going on when she went to Southern in the early 70's. I saw the trucks gathered in the lot across from the Big Hill store yesterday, all those Confederate flags were sure a beautiful sight!

I don't know, maybe there was a HS in this part of Madison Cty by a different name back then. My Daddy went to the Kingston School when it had one room but we moved to Pikeville before I went to HS.

Berea Central fan you need to know the facts. It was Central back in the 50s and 60s showing their Southern flags to the Madison High Purples. How do you like those apples!

Its just kids being kids! They dont even know what they are doing.

My child participated in the Rebel run. I heard more comments about it this year so I talked with them about it. The response was it is just something that had been done for years. It's just for fun it is not a racial thing or to hurt anyone. It is only for fun. My child made the comment we are only having fun. I do remember in the day when Central waved the flags also. I attended Madison Central. I have the upmost respect for both schools. I am very thankful that my child found that to be a good time, verses drinking or doing drugs. There are several worse things they could have done with all the bad things around us.

There was no high school on this end besides Berea. All of us county kids had to go to MCHS. Made for a long trip...:P! Foley started way before Southern. I was a senior at Central, and my brother only attended Foley that first year (8th grade) 78-79 school year. I would say the Southern was a pipe dream, about that time.

Would we say these kids were just having fun if they had Nazi flags flying from their trucks? There are many traditions that must be laid to rest if they are hurtful to others. I think we all know that rebel flags have a negative connotation and if it could be construed as something derogatroy or inflammatory than the parents of these students, the students themselves, and the administrators at MSHS should do the right thing and not allow this type of activity. Tradition or not, it is offensive to others, including myself and my family.

at least this kids, were not out robbing someone, doing drugs or drinking., it was a bunch of friends having a fun together. if it had been Central students doing something like this, then you all would not be complaining!

Typical berean. Always trying to ruin something. Its offensive to me to have a whole month of hearing about blacks all the time. Its also offensive to me for the school to close for mlk day and not presidents day. Cry all you want but you need to look at the whole picture.

I almost didn't comment I knew this would get crazy. The flag is a heritage do your homework. I don't really care if they do it or not. I don't agree about putting traditions to rest. In my opinion that is the problem in schools. Work place etc. This was a innocent thing carried from year to year. The drugs, drinking stealing and no morals is alot bigger problem. These issues go own in BOTH of the high schools. I know this due to I deal with both high schools and students from both on a daily basis. It's over no one was hurt. So let it go. We as parents need to support our kids teach them morals.

Your idea of what a moral is must be very different than mine. These types of lessons are not my idea of being a good parent, and for the schools to allow this type of behavior is exactly why my children attend Berea Community and not a county school.

My children will eventually attend MSHS and I will be there helping them put the flags on their vehicles. This a tradition get over it! We have to celebrate BLack history month every year. Where is WHITE history month. Talk about RACE issues! It offends me that we dont have a WHITE history month....We have BET Why cant we have WET? Because Black people would have a fit thats why!SO shut up and let kids be kids! If you dont like the flags dont look at them!
