Yes it is. I like it quiet well and have no intentions of moving. At least for the next 15 or so years. Then, I'll probably relocate to Lexington in order to be closer to healthcare facilites and shopping. By that time, I'll be in my mid 60's and will need more attention than what I figure Berea would have to offer by 2025.

Personally I don't see Berea any different than other small towns - the College notwithstanding.
Quaint and tends to remain so. Sort of lost in time if you will...

Something to note however is that Berea has far less small or locally owned businesses right now than in recent past. I atribute that mostly to the retail giants like WalMart. Mt. Vernon for example still has a dime store as well as a number of small furniture and appliance stores. The same goes for Irvine. Neither of which have a Walmart store.

The future of Berea Kentucky, I am sorry to say, will have less and less to offer anyone over the next 30-50 years. And makes me really sad...

While our leaders do in fact look down the road, their vision is too narrowed to see a bigger picture.

Berea can toss all of the money it wants to tourism and crafty stuff. But I can assure you, this will never be its saving grace or salvation. It is going to take an extraordinary look into emerging technologines, infrastructure and recuitment of entities invlved in this area to sustain Berea for years to come.

Otherwise, Berea will remain a small college town with a appalachian flare. And one where the College remains the focal point of the community.

As long as this town continues to project itself as "The arts and crafts capitol of Kentucky", and worries less about jobs for Bereans, it will continue to suck being a citizen here. We need a new mayor and nine people om city council who care about the town, not their self-interests.

Hop Sing, you are the prime reason low-brow white trash trailerpark women shouldn't have access to a computer! If you love this podunk outpost so much, why don't you run for mayor, oh yeah, no one in Berea likes you. It's sad what Berea has become, but I suppose it serves us right for constructing as many low-income apartment complexes on the wrong side of the tracks, that being Jefferson Street. I remember when this town was primarily composed of Liberal Democrats until the 1970's when those factories brought in white trash republicans from other states. I dream of the day when the Democrats once again set this town on the path to better things.

Still stuck in the Republican -Democrat box the system has constructed for you? It's a rouse, a red herring, a diversion. Alert citizenry will be looking more in terms of tracking towards tyranny (complete centralized control of the population) or tracking towards anarchianism (the complete and utter lack of Govt). You need to question what rights you believe you have, the limits of your rights and then generalize your rights to the population at large. See where you place on the continuum and vote for that candidate the most closely reflects belief in what liberties you have for yourself (and thus, your neighbors). The party affiliation tag is a useful tool for those organized for Govt tracking towards tyranny. There have been and are plenty of 'big Govt' republicans. Just a thought.
