I have had a burning question for a long time. What year did Medicaid start paying for kids to get braces on their teeth?
I have searched the internet for the answer, but have come up empty handed.

Insurance doesn't pay for braces. It amazes me the idiots who get on here hollering for people to get real jobs b/c they're sick of paying for them to get government assistance, when they don't make enough money themselves to worry about it. The same people who get back more on their tax returns than they pay in. So what are they talking about? They're not losing anything, but they act like it's killing them, when it just makes them feel better to be able to say that. Like it raises them up into a higher class of people or something b/c they're not getting assistance themselves. Many people who get medicaid for their kids are people who work all the time, possibly making more money than they make. They pay a co-pay for their kids to have the medicaid. Yet some uneducated hillbilly wants to get on here and put people down about things they obviously don't know the first thing about.

obviously you have never had a real job with real insurances, because i have 100% coverage no copays, no deductible all covered by the company! so maybe you all should spend more time working on your resume than putting down these so called hillbillies that happened to be the backbone of this country! now suck on that!

Maybe we could ALL go and work at your company and have such insurance. What? Oh, the company couldn't hire EVERYBODY. Well, then I guess everybody has to do what works out best for THEM.

But why should you get braces free? Others work more, and make payments

I have twins that I recently had to have braces, knew it was coming because of their teeth>my insurance paid so much and the orthodontist had several payment options, for instance we paid cash and got a discount. However, I was told that if the girls had had a medical card they would be able to get braces at age 13 that was straight from the dentists mouth, So yes medical cards pay for braces, and that makes me sick, it's o.k. to be down on your luck and try to get help, but hey, don't stay down there for ever, it makes me sick to go to the grocery store, thinking about how much money to spend, when in front of me is a person who is able to work, capable of working using her/his food stamp card, now if that don't make you mad, then your a better person than I.

I would hate to think that I was so resentful that I got sick whenever I saw somebody using a food stamp card. That sounds more like jealously. I would hate to put this country's future in the hands of some of you people. The same group of people who say that people should be drug tested to be able to get benefits, totally overlooking the fact that the kids would be the ones who would suffer if the benefits stopped. Do you think the kids should "go out and get a job"? Do you think the kids should make their parents' stop their addictions, or make them get a better job? It's also mostly kids who have medicaid. Do you resent needy children who have braces on their teeth b/c the parent's had help paying for them? Do you want to see the cycle of welfare go on? Do you think the kids would have a better chance in life if they had a nicer appearance? I do. It's a proven fact that people with a more pleasing appearance go farther in the workforce. But yet you begrudge them that. These are the same people who holler they don't believe in abortion. It's really sad that so many people see in black and white and don't try to be more sensitive and think out things intelligently instead of slandering people left and right.
This post wasn't even about all this. It was about whether or not anybody knew when medicaid started paying for braces. It wasn't talking about having medicaid, or what it covers now.

I work and I get a medical card for my kids. I pay $40 a month plus a couple of bucks per visit and per prescription. My kids father was killed working so I don't feel a bit guilty for getting medical assistance. I don't get foodstamps yet I don't feel sick or angry that others do. I feel fortunate that I don't have to have them and if I ever did I need them I wouldn't hesistate. No kid should starve so adults don't feel jealous. My kid needs braces soon and I pray the medical card will at least cover part of it. Her teeth are very overcrowded.

Get a job! My daughter had to have braces and you know what? We made payments. Medicaid SHOULD NOT pay for braces. If anything it should help for EMERGENCY situation's. But braces, my god. Thats what is wrong with this nation and why it's broke.
Everyone thinks they're entitled to everything.

Can you not read? I do work. Unfortunately jobs with medical insurance around here are scarce. My husband died working. Brace are a necessity when a childs teeth are so crooked it affects how they eat, they are more likely to have infections and pain, plus it affects the shape of their face. I will NOT apologize for my kid getting medical help when she needs it. You are portraying yourself as a bitter and hateful person.

Lol...when an oral surgeon makes the statement that braces are not necessary or important enough for medicaid to pay for, then I'll pay attention. Not somebody who is only afraid their few dollars of taxes is going to go to help a needy kid.
Another thing...you said that "WE made payments". If it weren't for all the deadbeat dads around here, then maybe some of these women could pay for braces or whatever else their kids needed.
Come to think of it...if abortion didn't carry such a social stigma, then maybe some of these young girls wouldn't be afraid to have one, and then they wouldn't need medicaid now, would they? Just nip it in the bud.
