I know a person who is commiting food stamp fraud. She claims her husband left her and draws $700 a month in food stamps and recieves a medical card for herself and children. When in reality he still lives in the home and makes $18 an hour while she stays at home with the kids. I want to report her. Has anyone else reported someone? Do they really investigate when you report the fraud? I'm tired of struggling to survive while this family (like many others) lives it up at the working mans expense!

I do not support food stamp fraud, but appreciate any sort of snitching, informing, or collaboration with the pig's regime even less. Rather than snitching out people you know over a few hundred dollars worth of food, why don't you use that energy to resist the imperialist wars sucking up trillions of our tax dollars in Iraq and Central Asia? Imperialist war, corporate capitalism, and the capitalist-state are the enemies, not each other.

I would agree, and one person is not going to make that big of a difference in tax payers supporting the masses that do that. Also sometimes things are not as they appear. If your particular interest is in food stamps or the like perhaps your energy could be spent in creating a bill that would foster your interests, or lobbying for a change in existing laws in this matter.

I am thinking if the constitution were redome we may not need food stamps, there may actually be some employment that is not connected to the chemical/pharmaceutical/oil companies that seem to run our lives.

If you will look in the Berea Citizen, there is a Bill Mr. Lonnie Napier is trying to pass. everyone must do a drug test before being approved for assistance. House Bill # 120, It is a good thing. It will get help for the person before it becomes an issue with problems to the point of committing a crime, & getting in trouble. Everyone should be aware of the day we are living in, Babies are being given away for drugs. People are giving thei're bodies for drugs. I know it is another step to what some people will say, we are losing our Freedoms. Well, look at our world. What do we have to lose?

So, we trust a machine and the people who run them to decide? I don't think so. Machine operators can be bought and machines malfunction. There are also drugs and things people can take to pass the drug tests, but only the outlaws seem to know what they are. This law would hurt the good people only, the ones who really need the help.

I think the Bill is a great idea. If you have $ for drugs then you have money for food. I know alot of sorry people who sit around and get everything handed to them. Then there are people like myself who work and take evry dime to pay bills and buy food who cannot get anything. I would much rather help someone who helps their self then help someone who won't lift a finger!

I agree with turning these ppl in!! We got to start somewhere! I know of about 3 ppl myself who are drawing food stamps and disability checks and are able to go and cut there own trees in the back yard and put a roof on their house. They are able to work just the same as I or any of you. If we all turned in the people we knew, think of how much money that would free up in our government. I'm not just talking about Berea, I'm talking world wide!! They should have a site where we could turn these ppl in annonymously and let them take it from there. I have 3 jobs and have never been on food stamps and don't plan on it, unless my children are starving! Until then I will continue to make an honest living!

You may all think that you would be doing a great thing reporting these people, saving the government all sorts of money and all--is that why you really want to turn them in? Sure, you work your butt off to feed your family, but at least you can lay down and sleep at night without guilt, and you're not looking over your shoulder for cops all the time. The only ones that would be hurt by this are the children, do you think those grownups are not going to figure out a way to have what they need, and to heck with the kids?

Cheating on food stamps is no different than a business person stealing from the company they work for, cheating on taxes, high paid officials making more than they are worth, cheating on child support, over-charging someone for a service you provide and a million other ways we Americans have of cheating. Why pick on one group when all the rest of us are getting away with stuff everyday?

i say turn them in! it is our tax dollars that are paying their bill! i know a lot of people who don't need food stamps and are cheating the gov. If they would cut out food stamps and make them only available for people who are retired i bet some of those drawing would get up off their asses and go to work or grow a garden.
i am sick and tired of people trying to beat the system.
I am sick of people trying to get disability for back ache and fibro and mental problems and try to draw a check on a child because they "say" it has adhd! sick sick and tired of it.
foodstamps and ssi was not suppose to be a life long help only a temp solution. get off your ass and work!
if our ancestors had sit on their ass and drew a check and food stamps we would never have accomplished the things we have!

I was receiving food stamps for myself and child for about 3 years. My living situation changed (my fiance moved in) shortly after one of the many meetings the State requires to make sure your still eligible and for how much.
I had another meeting to tell my case worker of the new arrangements and to make necessary changes to my eligibility. I brought in required paperwork, documents... you name it. I left with everything ok - still able to receive.

I lost medical through work so I thought I'd try for medical and I was told medical and food cases are separate so they gave me a "medical case worker" and he reported me for food stamp fraud even though he was aware of my situation and pulled up all my current records.

I didn't hide anything or change my situation at all yet I got in trouble.

OIG investigated me, calls were recorded, there was a home visit and the Attorney Generals office pursued charges against me. I was informed that I was facing a Class D felony if convicted of said crime. I had to hire a lawyer, go to court multiple times with all my paperwork from my case workers showing what had been done through the course of 3 years time. I wasnt convicted of defrauding the State but I did end up having to pay back the amounts I received which totaled around $3500.

Everything in my case was legitimate but the caseworker gave some song and dance and I was the bad guy so I repaid it all back. Some people (like myself) needed the help at the time and there are others who milk it because they can get away with it and reap the rewards. In the end its really your call what you decide to do.

Personally, that year was an absolute nightmare for me and I was a wreck. I could completely agree with all that happened had I taken advantage of the system. But to truly need the help, be eligible than need medical and it open a can of worms was the worst thing ever.... in the end its truly up to you what should be done.

I didn't go into too much detail on these people who are commiting the fraud. These people are just plain out GREEDY! The husband has a great job and good benefits. But, chooses to not pick up insurance on his children, not to mention he has other children from a previous relationship and is a complete deadbeat dad. These people eat out for almost every meal. They blow the 700 a month on snacks and Pop from gas stations. There is hardly ever any food in their home. Luckily they aren't drug users, but they are any better than common theives!
Now the woman was complaining that they didn't have the money to go on a mini vacation because their electric bill was too high. Her solution to that- go sign up for heating assistance so their vacation is still possible. Isn't that just horrible? especially when I know people struggeling to make their house payments and buy food who work every darn day and can't get one ounce of assistance! Those people have to rely on feeding their children ramen noodles and pb&j sandwiches, because they cant afford to buy groceries! What a shame!

Did you know that there are batting practice cages at the park? You put tokens in the machines and it throws balls to you so you learn how to properly swing a baseball bat. It's a fun past time, pretty good exercise, and a good skill to have.

I despise today's "welfare mentality," where people believe something is owed to them for nothing. I am not against helping people, I AM against supporting the lazy and dishonest.

I was a cashier at Walmart for a few months, and I remember one day a couple that works at the Hong Kong Buffet there in Berea came into the store. They had just had a baby, and used their business tax exempt card for the restaurant to purchase their baby's diapers, wipes, clothes, pacifiers, and other personal items. I was so infuriated! Its so wrong for them to fraudulently use that tax exempt privilege that was intended for their business on their personal effects! I told my manager about the incident and she was going to look into reporting them, but I don't know what ever came of it. It still burns me up thinking about it.
