I go to church with the activities director and she is a great lady. I've never heard anything bad at all about this place.

Well i loved it there other than i did not like the star and dot system they got going on. And i am no longer there because i had no one to keep my kids no more. But it was a good work place.

How is the staff to resident ratio?

It's been my experience that most nursing homes, adult day training facilities, etc.. need more staff per individual.

Those companies have an understandably huge turnover rate (some people just can't do it) but definately more staff should be on the floor and available for more individualized attention, and more assistance in reaching their goals rather than robotic stuff.

The residents/clients are humans, and precious ones at that.

A dear friend had her mother there earlier this year. Her mother was not watched while there; was pulling out her tubes and catheters, etc. She said she'd never put anyone there again if she could help it, and I feel comfortable counting on her for first-hand information.

You backed up my theory. The gals who tend the elderly/disbled are run ragged, not paid enough, and there aren't enough of them!

I'm so sorry about your friend's mother.

I worked there a couple years ago. I wasn't particularly fond of it myself...so I went to Berea Health Care Center, and it was a much better working environment. Granted, the Terrace is alot cleaner, but the staff at BHCC is much friendly and more enjoyable to work for.

Is Berea health care hiring? Is their pay better than The Terrace?

I'm really not sure if they are hiring or not, I haven't worked there in over a year, but I can tell you they started my pay out higher than the Terrace did. When I started as an SRNA, I made $9.50..which was pretty good at the time compared to other places. And the DON is a really nice lady, and fun to work for.

Many people will unfortunately have to consider placing someone they care about in a facility like this. It is handy to hear from people who have experience with them. Especially when it is generally just bad experiences that make news, I'd want to know about those for sure, but also which ones people can talk good about.

honestly..in a way, they are all the same. You have the same type of workers everywhere you care. Those that care, and those that dont. And believe me, it's not too often that you come across the ones that really care.
And then of course you have the P.O.S. family members that just drop off their "loved ones" and never even come back to visit. Working in places like this, you see how people truly are.
just sayin

I have worked in nursing homes since I was a teenager. And believe me they are NOT the same! Berea Health Care is by far the best I have ever worked at! The administrator is the most caring and understanding person I have ever worked for, She would even come out at meal times and feed! She was always around when the residents and employees needed her...Don't get me wrong she is very stern and wanted thing done exactly the way they are suppose to be. But thats what makes her a great boss! And they always had great teamwork! It was an awesome place to work...

I worked there for 5 years. Mrs. G is right there are some that care and some that dont. I have some stories that would make you question putting someone you care about there and then I always came to the conclusion that it was better than most. They have some of the sorriest nurses. Most of the aides are good but there is some well those dont last to long I have been an aide for 6 yrs I left making almost $10.50/hr. they lose alot of good aides due to the star and dot that means if they're stort on the next shift your most likely gonna stay if your stared or dotted. All and all it is a good job if your willing to work and to look over some of the ones that think they know it all. The nurses think they're doctors and some of the aides think they're nurses. some advice if you get the job if you know someone is doing something wrong, like a nurse go tell pat webb she is easy to talk to but dont cast the first stone unless ye without sin

I would just like to say before you talk about workers in any nursing home you should try working there yourself. I mean for longer than one or two days. It is a very hard job as a nurse aide and you never get paid what you are worth. I have worked many years in health care and I have seen alot of things good and bad. There are people who care and there are people who are there for a check only. Some are very lazy, some are hard workers some have good morals and some could care less. I feel sorry for alot of the residents because alot of time they have no family except the ones that take care of them on a daily basis. Then you have family members who come in and complain about any and everything and then why dont they take them home and try to take care of them theirselves. Sometimes you just want to tell them to take their family home if they are complainers for no reason. Nurse aide work is 80% cleaning bm and urine and most people can't handle it.

I agree I am also an aide and I can tell you if u have a loved one in a home. Make your presents known. The families that come in a lot well we are taught to make your loved one our priority. If u drop them off and don't come to often well they don't get the best care.

I love my job and I try to treat everyone the way I want to be treated.

We are over worked and under paid. The nurses get paid the big bucks and we do all the work. They can't even get up off there fat butts to answer a call light. They sit at the nurses station when management leaves eating, gossiping and talking on the phone.

We could be wading in poop and have an alarm going off and instead of them turning it off they will walk around find u and tell u an alarm is ringing.

Anyways yes all Nursing homes are the same. Some care some don't.

If anyone is interested in a CNA job, Madison Manor in Richmond is hiring right now. I just got on there. They start out at $9.50 per hour and maybe a little more depending on what shift you get. I got 2nd shift 3-11PM, so I am making $10 per hour during the week and $10.50 for weekends and that is just starting out.
