Because skateboarding is inherently dangerous, and the city being wise, will not be responsible for harm coming to kids, even those whose parents lack the ability to properly raise children and allow them to own skateboards.

Not only will there never be a skateboard arena, but there is a law against riding them on public property. And city streets, sidewalks, and parks, are public property. So if you see some misguided youth riding these things, call the police and have them confiscated.

i see these skate boarders all the time
in berea seems like to me the property owners
would call the police ,i wouldn't think it would any harm if parents would sign a waver saying
they would be responible ,keep them off streets and out of trouble

A company from California has done the design work and as I understand, construction will start in the Spring at the park on North Broadway.

Here is a C/P from kynews.org

Steve Connelly answered:
The skate board area is part of the new park expansion which should be complete this summer. The pad is in, the design is nearly complete, and the equipment is being ordered.

Best!

really you want to talk smack, I use to be one of those so called misguided youths and skateboarding kep me out of trouble growing up. Your just anotherone of those stereotype bigits if you ask me. If there are not bothering you leave them alone and let them have fun. I was a really good kid growing up but caught alot of crap from people like you,an you no what I would do know if you said something like to my face insted of looking over it I would knock your freaking lights out. Its because of people like you that make the skateboard's look bad.

I think that it is ridiculous, how dumb ass people are always against everything if someone wonts to skateboard let them! If they get hurt its there own doing..so why would they sue? All you people think skateboarding is going to harm, thats stupid!
Everything in the world can harm you, driving, bicycles, motorcylces,w alking, running, eating to much, not getting enough excerise, weather, electic, literally there is always a way to get harmed by something, so why even bother trying to ban skateboards, you people are retarded really!

The simple fact is this. In 90 percent of the cases seen in the ER, of pre teen and teen aged children, mainly boys, the injuries, broken bones, wounds requiring stitches, brusing, head trama, and dislocated joints, all stem from skateboards.

I just checked, in the last 60 days, some 144 kids were seen for reasons that can be traced directly to their skateboards. The add to that the fact that the vast majority of these children belong to parents having no insurance. So the cost is passed directly to the rest of the people.

Believe as you wish. I am just telling you what the facts are, and how it would be a giant mistake for the city to join in this endevor of creating an arena capable of causing pain and suffering to local youths. For a lawsuit against them can only be around the corner, as many cities across the country now understand.

Well look at it this way Doc. Would you rather the youth be out there some where doing drugs and stealing off others or skateboarding and having fun with friends. An yes skateboarding can be dangresous, but that is why they make skateboard pads and helmets. By the way do a lil history work on what your saying, Rodney Mullin's (godfather of Skateboarding) Parent's had the same out look as you on skateboarding. Look at him now, he is the best skateboarder to ever live and owns his own multi million dollar skateboarding company. I'm not try'n to say you are wrong for the way you are looking at this but, just let kids be kids. I just want to ask you one question Doc, How many cases do you see from the so called exceptable sports in the ER in a years time???

Your post tell us that you still have not reached adulthood. From you comments you and your type are the reason skateboarders have the name they do have. Grow up and act responsible.

I respect your opinion Tax Payer but you dont know me or the crap that I went through growing up in Berea skateboarding around town. An I'm not a child anymore. I wont set back an let someone talk sh*t about the youth and there parents in this town just because some kids want to go ride a skateboard and have fun with there friends.

I would just want to say that if this town put more effort into something for the children and teens to do instead of focusing so much on crafts and things of no real interest to the majarity, teen crime would probably be much lower. As for skaters, let them be. It is an outlet for many of them to express style, exercise, and socialize. I have been here 8 years and have yet to see any damage as a result. If there has been any, it might have been prevented if they had a proper place to do it. Such a place has been pleaded for for years. But, like all needed things such as The Boys and Girls club, it has been put on the back burner or just plain neglected!. As for the ER Doc, if there is occassional accidents, it's not a result of neglectful parents. It is just life and it is keeping you in job security! I don't think any parent wants to see an injured child, but I would rather see mine hurt while playing than while doing something "REALLY" wrong!

I wish they would stay off the road, and stop going by my house at all hours of the night. They make alot of noise screaming and yelling. The city should do something about this.
