What do you think about the staff?

I like the new principal. 3rd grade teachers are all nice. Don't like the way they won't let you further then the office. They make parents feel unimportant (if that is a word) and unwelcomed.

I have yet to meet the principal, but have heard nothing but good things about her. I have a child in the 4th grade there and the teachers are GREAT!

kingston is a nice school. The principal is a very nice person and some of the teachers are great. There are a few there that need to be replaced or retire. My kids bus driver is great.

The new principle has a sketchy past. Look it up! So does some of her family members. Probably not the best influence on your kids.

How did u find this stuff out and how do u check someone out like this. Looks like the school board would have checked her out before hiring her and she seems like a good person. U know sometimes we out grow our past but that past is the past and we move on to be a better person.

Her past is just that the past. EVERYBODY has a past. She seems to be doing a good job and my boys really like her.

I read this site often but seldom post, but here is my 2 cents worth.
Both of my children had a difficut time in 2nd grade. My oldest had a teacher that thankfully retired when the year was almost over, which was in my opinion past due. Last year my youngest had a 2nd grade teacher that was just horrible. I went to Mrs. M********* who was the principal then with specific complaints, she dismissed me. My son was wetting the bed, crying not to go. I pulled him out just after halloween, put him in another school, he blossomed and the bed wetting stopped. He's back this year and has a wonderful teacher in 3rd grade. I pity the poor children stuck in 2nd grade with that wicked witch. the principal this year has been friendly and very helpful.

Who doesn't have a past?! Mrs. Young cares about her staff and those kids like no other Principal would... she has worked in the school system for YEARS and is really making a change for the better in a school that wasn't going that good. The staff at Kingston is one big family, everyone helps eachother!

My son has attended Kingston since we moved here 2 1/2 yrs ago. He had a tough time transitioning when we first moved. The teachers were GREAT with him. They helped him adapt to the new kids and area. They have been nothing but great in my experiences. Not too keen on why they can't establish a good PTO? I as well as my son was disappointed when we heard there was not goin gto be a fall festival this year. I never heard anything about volunteers or anything.? But as far as the teachers and staff, they all have been wonderful to my children who have attended Kingson. I have meet Mrs.Young and she seems very nice and very concerned about every childs education at the school.

Kingston is a prety good school, my daughter loves her teachers. The past couple of years the problem was in the principal. THANK GOD SHE IS GONE!!!!!! The only problem I see is exactly what someone else stated.......
1. The parents aren't allowed out of the car in pickup and drop off of childern, unless harrassed.
2. The parents aren't in contact with teachers enough because of #1. The first couple of years my daughter attended Kingston, the parents were allowed to walk to the door and pick up kids from teachers and teachers aids. I liked the face to face communication with a simple "hello how are things?" that way if there was a problem, it could be handled right then and there, instead of waiting for a parent/teacher conference 6 weeks later.

parents are allowed to come during lunch anytime because I've eaten with my child. I was told that if I wanted to volunteer that I had to make arrangements with the teacher and that she would tell the office she was expecting me. I've only been twice but the teacher was really appreciative that I had been there to help her.Things are a little stricter with the new principal but maybe thats a good thing for the kids. I dont know nothing about her past but that she was a good councelor at Kirksville for alot of years.her dad was my principal at Madison Central and her mom taught me art.

I agree 100%. I don't feel as welcome to help out as I have in the past. Sometimes it's hard for parents to schedule times to help out. I use to just call and if the teachers needed up I would go on down and help out. Can't do that anymore. Yes things are some what better than the past 3years but in other areas it has gotten worse. I was very upset that there would be no fall festival this year. I have always helped and even took off work to make sure they had enough help. We are going to attend other schools fall festivals.

Parents are not allowed in the school unless given permission because it is a total distraction for the kids.. They are there to learn not have visitors! While you work, if you had people walking around would you look to see who they are and what their doing or would you keep on working> think about it?!

AND the school doesn't allow parents to stand by the door and pick up their kids anymore because it was always a huge mess. AND what if someone came to pick up a child who wasn't on their sign out card - it's much safer this way! The changes are good changes!

AND Teachers work "VERY" hard for your children. This year parents were given the option to volunteer to opporate the Fall Festival teachers did not have to, there was only 20 something parents that agreed to do it... that's why Kingston is not having it.

I agree with you 100%. But actually, on the fall festival, I as a parent never received or heard anything about volunteering. I do know kids can lose and misplace papers, which is what could have happened, but would still like to see more things for the kids go on in the school. PTO is never going to raise any money if they don't put together fun activities for the kids/parents. The previous school my kids attended, they did all kinds of fund raisers.

Ideas:

1. Monthy movie night-
There would be a G rated movie night monthly. All was used was a projector, projecting the movie onto the wall in the gym. Charge $3 admission or $2 admission if they brought a can good. Parents and children could bring fold out chairs and blankets to sit on. Plus, would have the concession open for snacks. We would make several hundred dollars doing just that.

2. School dances-
Nothing wrong with elementary school dances. We would have one usually Valentine,spring,fall/hallowee n, Christmas. Charge $3 admission or $2 with a canned good. Kids had a BLAST! Do concessions. We would make several thousand dollars just on a dance. We would give away prince and princess crowns for each grade. And all that was, was every child that came to the dance, put their name in a bag. And we drew the names out and that would be the WINNER.

With doing the simple activites such as these, you could raise al lot of money for the PTO/School. Fall festivals were so packed you could barely walk. There were bouncy houses,slides..etc. And the reason we had BIG festivals like that was because we had the money to do so. We would raise THOUSANDS of dollars during the activities. All it takes is a few parents willing to get their heads together and pull it off. It's very rewarding for the kids as well as the school.
