Have to place some of the blame on teachers. Or are we just that stupid? It is rumored that a huge majority of teachers in WV have been treated for drug addiction, or alcoholism. I know a few and they party down.

Define" "huge majority".....It is rumored?..Now there's cold hard facts for you.:)

Evidently, there are some fine schools in this state also with great teachers... I expect we must place "some" of the "blame" for their success on teachers also, huh?
who should we blame

Who should we blame, the parents, the children, the board of education, or just maybe THE TEACHERS????? Common sense rules.

Go ahead and place "some" of the blame on teachers but I put most of the blame on parents! Far too many parent are so poorly educated that they're unable to assist their children with their homework.

The Blame rest solely on the shoulders of the county Board of Education and the Teachers and above them the Principals. If you do a little research you will find that every child can learn and every classroom will run sooth as silk if Teachers and Principals apply proper class room manage skills and proper oversight of teachers by principals which is not done pushing parents to drug their kids claiming things like ADHD Falsely because their to lazy to Teach and use proper classroom management skills and quick to suspend kids for every little thing after they got their new policy which they themselves violate because kicking kids out of school is to be only used if they are a physical threat to the school or themselves, if you read all the sights Home Sales Great Schools and all other sites about fayette county schools you'll see more so with CMS the Principals are unwilling to work with parents playing favorites letting bullying go on and much more that includes this site and complaints to the Board go unresolved or the same playing favorites issues. I am normally a Teachers advocate but seeing, hearing reading all the stories which I know are True because to many kids and parents tell the same stories.

Plus look at the stories and listen to the people talk in the community this has gone on for years and topix as well as other social media are prime examples adults can't read or spell or write do basic complex math, they can't help their kids because they don't have the skills and the schools refuse to send text books home for the parents to learn and help their children working parents have little time kids are bused around the county not even awake yet starting school to early and getting out to early to be bused that distence. Look at the dropout rates, crime rates which much of the crime goes unreported because people live in fear of being retaliated against or just don't bother because they know nothing is going to be done or little of nothing. This all leads also to higher rates of unemployment even if their are jobs or having to take lower paying jobs due to lack of education addictions of all sorts all of which cost the taxpayers much more money to carry the load and the county, state and fed gov all bleeding tax payers for more money, more money which gets wasted and my guess highly unaccounted for snd spent on programs that do not provide higher education or produce long standing productive future citizens to much spent on sports not enough on education face ot few sports related anything from the area have produced pro sports player perhaps even from the state and my guess those kids in sports are all not making the grades and by the sounds of parent reviews and this strong willful playing of favorites you have to wonder how that is going with kids in sports which hey that is great kids need sports to but education for all comes first not sports.

one thing more CMS they don't return calls are rude and blame anything but themselves and if you get one of them on the phone count on them being rude and cutting you off then quickly ending the call with no resolve. Their website has been shut down to public access all year long countless citizens have expressed this. My question is if you can't talk to them by phone or take time to speak in person which I understand many don't even have transportation to get to the schools or the working parent has the only transportation and no working website that tells me somebody does not want parents to have access to the school.

I don't remember my parents ever helping me with homework except to give me my spelling words, or to ask if I had done my homework. They used the report card to judge our progress and heaven help you if you brought home a bad report card.

I was more hands on with my son's education...dropped him off at school, had more than one conference with a teacher in grade school...lol...but mainly followed my parents' practice of enforcing homework, which was just practicing what you learned during the day in school to lock it into your head. Smart as I am, my son graduated higher in his class than I did in mine...lol. Well no, he did graduate higher so guess it wasn't a joke.

And sports can be very helpful to a child's development. It encourages them to work hard, to stick with a job, to respect their elders (my son's coaches didn't put up with any sass), to work as a team, and gives them a taste of glory when they hit that ball and everybody is cheering as they round the bases, or running down the field with a football and everybody is SCREAMING! Lord, those were the days. Between the 9th and 10th grades my son cut almost 10 seconds off his time of running the 40 yard dash. He did it by hard work and determination...and that taught him a lesson he has never forgotten.

I have heard so many horror stories about schools today that I wish I could go back to class just to observe what they are doing, because I find it hard to believe that it has changed so much since my son was in school...which was comparable to when I was in school. Didn't seem to me it needed fixing.

What a ridiculous, rambling rant!...all the sights Home Sales Great Schools...? Huh? Did you finish that entire box of wine in the fridge already? Maybe you should consider accompanying your children to school and sitting in on their English composition classes!

If our legislature passes the bill to provide breakfast and lunch to all students then maybe those HUD students will perform up to par. Guess it's hard to concentrate when your belly is growling.

Get a clue.

"Considering the assessments keep getting more difficult and the bar keeps being raised. The kids are really trying, along with the underpaid and under appreciated teachers.

That's a testament to Wyoming Co. teachers and schools. No one outside of a school/school system can imagine what it takes to move a school full of students forward in today's education environment. It is becoming a superhuman feat.

What would we do if the teachers all decided to just quit?

LOL..

What a bunch of total nonsense..Good job:)

The educational system is culpable to some extent of course, but let's put the pasture patty in the right pocket here.. PARENTS are the number one problem, the "system" catering to every suggestion or whim by a public, which doesn't know there "A" from a vowel, plus threatened and REAL lawsuits from every direction and other factors of course, can also be put at the top of the list.

Sports is what the public is concerned about and nothing else...Drive by a school building on a night they are having parent teachers meetings to discuss student progress...THEN drive by a football field or basketball gymnasium on GAME nights..
Count the cars and crowds at each....I rest my case:)

The PROBLEM is this...Everyone runs the school system EXCEPT the teachers....Bring back discipline, give the teachers the POWER our teachers were given, let them teach and get out of the way...
Guaranteed things will get much better.

Stories "everyone tells"...I'll repeat what I have said many times.. People attack teachers because the are and EASY TARGET and can't fight back....
Everyone has gone to school so that makes everyone an "expert' concerning education....Whew!

P.S. I'm not a teacher, so we can stop that "charge" that's going to be levied from the get go:)

I agree with most of what you said but it seems you were disparaging sports. It may be true that parents go to sports events more than to PTA meetings but I don't think that is the answer here. I don't remember my parents ever going to a PTA meeting (I went all the time), and although I was in the band in highschool they never went to a game or a concert (I never missed a game or anything event my son was involved in). I don't think they ever even went to see my highschool play when I had the LEAD part. But they sure did lay down the law at home about homework, going to school, and not getting into trouble at school. Hmmm, wonder if that is why my son graduated higher in his class than I did and why he is more succesful than I ever was.

I will reiterate that I think sports was a HUGE part of my son's success in school and in his later professional life. I have heard parents say "I'm not going to run all over the place taking him/her to games or this or that". Big, big mistake!
