If you suspect that someone contributed money directly or through a church toward the campaign to prevent or allow alcohol sales in Marshall County without pay tax then you can report it to the IRS at http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f3949a.pdf . They will be glad to look into any person or organization.

Are you saying our church members and churches who took up special contributions toward the "Vote No" campaign was unethical and illegal?

you can give money directly to your church fund and the church can use it as they see fit. If you would go you would know that.

How else does a church get money unless it's from it's members. Our church has different funds every week the tithes and offerings are divided into different areas such as missions, church building fund, general fund, etc. general fund can be used however the church wants. We donate to crisis centers ,outreach programs etc.

NO , they cannot use the funds "anyway they please" well that is IF they like being tax exempt

http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=16 ...

Here are some examples of things they can lose tax exempt status for taking part in (and clearly they did in this election)

**if the organization advocates the adoption or rejection of legislation**

Legislation includes action by Congress, any state legislature, any local council, or similar governing body, with respect to acts, bills, resolutions, or similar items (such as legislative confirmation of appointive office),

****or by the public in referendum, ballot initiative, constitutional amendment, or similar procedure.*****

http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=16 ...

Pay particular attention to the parts marked with *** as what is between those are clearly obvious to anyone paying even half attention

Now IF a church does not mind losing their tax exempt status, I guess that is their own business, but let's not pretend that is a very real possibility and all over this vote...

tax man, you and all the rest of the yes folks are the sorest losers I have ever seen. Mark my word, nothing will happen per the IRS and what you speak of. Churches CAN take a stand on those issues. You need to understand the law before you start spouting it as if you know what you're talking about. You obviously don't. I will even go so far as to put $100 on the line with you that says nothing will happen. You up to it???

As IF you have $100 to gamble with, LOL

It doesn't matter what you "think", the tax code is posted and anyoen who can read beyond a fifth grade level (guess that excludes you) can clearly see churches are Not allowed to do what they have done here and maintain tax exempt status. Does that mean they cannot pay for TV ads, signs , transport voters to get their way. Nope - just means they pay business taxes when they get caught doing it, in case you don't know that will be HUGE loss for those who get caught...

It's too funny you think the IRS cannot do anything, guess who managed to bust Al Capone and put him away "forever" ....

Fact is I dont' care IF they lose their tax exempt status, I DO care that they were so foolish to risk it over this issue, which had nothing to do with religion in any way shape or form- NONE

IF they end up losing it (and despite what you "think", it IS a very real possibility- and I suspect the folks who started this already have that ball rolling) I can assure you they'll regret ever getting involved and for a VERY long time that regret will remain.

We'll see how hard you're blowing crap after this blows over. The IRS won't touch it, and churches can take a stand. They have a right to do so. My $100 offer still stands. I will be here under this name until you lose and need a name to send the money to. But I would also bet that WHEN you lose, I will never see a penny of it. Why? Because you have already shown you are a loser.

You are simply in denial, WHY do you "think" the IRS won't touch it? It's their job, IF you knew Anything about the IRS you'd KNOW they LOVE to take tax exempt status from charitable organizations who do not follow the clear rules. IF you could read the Tax Code that is posted, you would KNOW any church who bought ads, ran buses, put up signs are in clear violation.

You're without a clue about many things , of that there can be no doubt.

BTW while you seem to enjoy talking about the "evils of drinking" you should know as many or more folks have serious problems with gambling, yet YOU are on here trying to gamble with money no one believes that you even have, maybe THAT "is your problem" you have a gambling problem and need to talk bad about anyone who has a few drinks per week- typical

If you win a $100.00 off Disgruntled you will just getting part of your tax money back because it will be coming from her welfare check. Disgruntled is all for the churches because their charities supplement her welfare check. If it wasn’t for the church her kids would have nothing under the tree for charismas. She would rather be on her all day then working to supporting her family. I bet she supports her smoking habit with her child support checks. She also a Obama supporter because he is promising her that he will take the money from us that are not too lazy to work and give it to her and her kind.

I personally think that Churches should have to pay taxes...period. Spain is talking about taxing the Church to help ease thier national debt. If the Church really cares about the community in which they live and operate, then they should contribute to that community. This measure would ease budget problems throughout our community and our nation. I am a Church member, but I'm sure some Christians will say that I am going to Hell for even imagining touching "the Lords money."

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Capricorn

Don't take any risks when handling your finances today, because there are strange things going on. Someone may not be as straightforward and honest as usual, or can't explain themselves properly, which leads to misunderstandings and false assumptions. If you're spending money, make sure you're charged the right price and given the correct change. And don't let your wallet or purse out of your sight, in case you mislay it or someone nabs it.
