Now with that said I liked the last part of your post westicles that was pretty good lmao.

First off I don't say read your bible in every post. I say read your bible and look what science has proven and disproven and use that knowledge to base your own judgements upon.

Now you asked the question: How is it wanting the world to know the truth and have a firm foot in reality any different? How do you know it is the truth? Because you believe it to be. Right? Well so does everyone else who believes differently than you. Do we actually know the world started with a big bang? No, not really, why? becuse we weren't there. All we know is what we read and what we are told. But if you do your own investigating and check out the things that are questionable with the things that have been both proven and disproven you get a whole different meaning of the bible and its teachings the right way without all the bull. What people forget is that the bible has been rewritten hundreds of times over by certain governments kings and men that didn't like the way it was made up for it was taking away from the rich and the church.(imagine that). So every now and then they will come up with another book or a different version of the bible for you to read.

I don't know about church people handing out pamphlets i haven't seen any my self so I won't comment on that. And as far as getting mail from them I haven't gotten any since i was in the church.

I have had someone hand me stuff on aetheism but i threw it away after reading it and mostly it was like a churches pamphlet explaining a seminar they were having fun and games for the kids etc.

Your right there is no other place to talk about these issues but I do have a friend that has a web site for aetheists I can give you the link if you would like it just let me know. we don't have the same views but we are still best friend our friendship means more than issues of religion.

I'm no aetheist but I would be glad to talk to you about it anytime you wish.

Sure! I enjoy any kind of literature I can get my hands on... the problem I have with my own kind, is that they get cynical and hateful about everything. I have no problem with religion, so far as there is still separation of church and state. Whatever it takes to make a person live a cleaner life, and be honest, far be it from me to stop you from believing that.

And there are plenty of unproven theories... A theory is just a theory. As far as the big bang theory, I think there is a point from measuring things that you can tell that the universe may be moving outwardly from its center... but we have such a small perspective, and such a small understanding of things, that it is ludicrous to think that its a fact. We probably don't even have the center of the universe right lol. But I do know that we can study how planets are formed through geology, which is a much more exact science. I wont get into too many details, but limestone is made from seashells, and it takes immense pressure and a lot of time to make that happen... and with that being said, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that there was an ocean once where we live, millions of years before the flood (I do believe that there was a flood in the middle east and that the bible documented it, as well as 2 or three texts from India) But anyways I'm ranting, what I'm trying to get across is that I agree with you, that the bible has lots of facts, and could be used as a history book, a reference point for some science in many senses. I just disagree with the divinity of it. Just because you read something that is old and people say is holy, doesn't mean its perfect. And as you said, its been rewritten many times, and specifically during the middle ages, only priests could dictate it to the congregation, because nobody could read. How could you dispute all of science? Without electricity, and ohms law, or chemistry, there wouldn't be any light-bulbs in your house. Without the laws of physics, forget space travel, we wouldn't have the combustion engine, or let alone radio, computers, tv. Cell science and chemistry is where we get all of our fantastic medical advances, heart transplants, amazing drugs, sedation that doesn't involve chloroform and an old dirty rag. If we lived as pious people, and not questioned the world around us outside of the teachings of the church...we wouldn't have many of these great things...My grampas church burns harry potter books, and calls every politician they don't agree with the anti-Christ. I'm going into renewable energy, and every time I get into a conversation with his friends, they think I'm crazy, because they think this world is gonna burn and the rapture is coming so why even try to be more efficient and cleaner? Its not the historical stuff, or the bible that gets me, its the same with the Quran too. Its that when people with no common sense take up a doctrine, they have the power to make everyone around them either really happy, or really miserable. And behind them is God, so they can do no wrong. At least you look at the bible and try to figure things out from a standpoint of what is true and what allegory, and don't just follow it blindly, for that I definitely commend you sir. And definitely any time you wanna have a discussion I'm more than happy to hear any and all opinions from anyone who has one, whether I agree or not, so long as its a discussion not a fight lol

Spontaneous single celled creation has long been proven FALSE. A cells DNA, RNA, membranes and proteins are extremely hard to make. When proteins are made, they must be exactly folded and addressed. They have to be turned on and off at just the right times. None of this process could just invent itself, and no "first cell" could exist without all of them. They could not have happened without a very intelligent CREATOR. Now I dont know if the God that the cristians that you communicate with exists or not, but I can tell you one thing. The majority of present day "SMARTEST PEOPLE" know without a doubt that there is or was a CREATOR.
Well, where did this God come from?

Well particle physics, and metaphysics in general are pretty important when it comes to determining the properties of matter, where/if it begins and ends yadda yadda. However the Higgs particle hasn't been proven just yet, they just measured and isolated a particle that matches the description. Still lots of testing to be done.

I dont think that you hate to judge. I think that the new discovery of the Higgs particle has alot to do with the discussion. The discussion is about atheist, atheism is dying and it is because science. The odds of everything happening by chance is so astronomical that intelligent design is more likely.

Well, if you had understood my post, you would see that I am not convienced that it is a single God, it could be multiple gods. I believe that all of my posts have not pointed to God, but to science. All I am saying is that some type of intellegent design is at work here, all of this just didnt happen. I cant believe that a lightning bolt struck a crystal and all of this just happened. Have you every wondered why we only use 10% of our brain, that seems preprogrammed to me.

I love how Christians are so ignorant. I mean they won't even listen to ur reasoning. Also when you are around them and you talk about not believing they are like what or they just won't to ignore the subject. Then they are like you are stupid for not believing but really most of the smartest people in history are atheist take Benjamin Franklin and Thomas jefferson for example
1. True Christians wont judge... I'm a converted Atheist myself, since I've found God I've had the opportunity to actually study and take classes on the Bible from great Christian men and women and the one message is that Jesus didn't associate with the high and powerful he associated with the low and sinful to show that it doesn't matter who you are and if he doesn't judge then why should you.

2. I understand the complaint, but for you to hate Christians for their belief and the passion of their belief is just as hateful and close minded as a Christian hating you for your passion in your non-belief. You can't pick and chose what's ignorance, and you have to understand if you ask a Christian to put their faith and bible down to 'see your side' you are asking them to do the same thing that they are asking you to do. It cannot go both ways if the person in question is indeed a Christian.

3. Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, while they weren't Christian, certainly were not Atheists. They were Deists they believed in a God that ran the cosmos, but didn't know what that God was. Thomas Jefferson went as far as having a 'Bible' it started off as a King James Bible that he had taken sections out of he didn't see as divine. You could have also said George Washington, he was a transcendentalist he believed God and Nature were the same being... like a Buddhist.

Also, for Christians the most loving thing we can do for any individual is to share the Gospels and our testimony with them. The goal of a Christian is to lead others to Christ and share the love he gave us. Muslims do this every day (while for the vast majority non terroristic)and generally speaking in a much more aggressive matter than Christians, but no one complains about Muslims, as they shouldn't because they are entitled to the same rights that I have as a Christian.

The point is religions are persecuted and looked down upon until something terrible happens to it. At first Christians were fed to lions in the Colosseum, then Jews were the victims of genocide in WW2, then Muslims were persecuted for being Muslim after 911. Christians are probably due for there next round of persecution, and I hope it isn't the struggle and persecution as outlined in Revelations. However, if it is, than I shall meet my maker and I'm prepared for that.

The bible has zero science in it? It claims the earth is flat, people rise from the dead, and a virgin birth?( which is only in two gospels)
Now.. Which is more plausible, that the natural order be suspended or for men 2000 years ago tell a lie?
The bible advocates slavery, killing your kid for god, and beating your wife. Anybody on this thread could improve on the bible in a moral sense. It commands you to kill your neighbor if he works on the sabbath- which is Saturday- what frustrates me, with Christians, is picking and choosing what they seem relevant in the bible.
The old testament laws no longer apply in the new testament, but it's the foundation for belief. Jesus worked on the Sabbath routinely to show you could do it and God didn't care anymore. The story of killing your kid, didn't really happen, nobody kills their kid in the Bible. God had told Abraham to kill his only son bore from his wife to show his faith for God, but God stopped him before the dagger ever touched the boy's skin because Abraham showed the immense faith that he had. The Bible also says the earth is round Isaiah 40:22 will solve that problem for you. And you are right about rising from the dead there were several resurrection in the Bible Jesus had necromancer powers for sure, he could also cast out demons. This thread is about tolerance and being tolerant, so while you complain about Christians picking and choosing parts of the bible, you did the same thing by picking and choosing some accurate and some inaccurate facts. Can't go both ways. I respect your belief or lack there of, but let's not play this game.

I agree with what you are saying somewhat, but what I don't agree with is you calling yourselves christian again the definition of christian is to be god like and noone and I do mean noone preachers included are christian.

As I have said in my previous posts you have to remember the bible has been rewritten several times, so yes you have to look at both science and the bible to figure out which is truth and which is not.

I bet your one of those people who say that when kane was bannished to the jungle and there he found a mate, I bet your one of those who say there were more people in the world or and I especially like this one, he took his mother which was eve, can we say sin and inbreeding come on open your eyes people. There are many stories in the Bible that are so funny I find it hard that anyone would believe anything written in this book. And that is all it is... a book... mostly jibber-jabber nonsense, but a book never-the-less... it is a hoax.

Since you can't imagine it happening any other way, you just put in "God did it". That's called the God of the Gaps argument. Ancient people used this same argument when dealing with natural things, such as the sun rising and setting, lightning strikes, plagues and pestilences, etc. They didn't know what was causing it, so "god did it". If you give that answer, then it will cause you to cease searching for the truth of how things work.
