Hey a new bill coming out won't allow food stamps to buy junk food anymore.. I think this is great. High fat and high sugar foods no longer allowed. Cool bill!

Why is it people worry about poor people when the rich are the ones that are getting welfare like in billions each.
You bitch about ho ho's and the whole time your buying a new mansion for some rich man.
Poor working class people are so easy to mislead.

its because we work...takes up all our time and we dont get to set on our fat lazy pot smoking ass all day and figure out new ways to leach off the working peoples tax dollars

GE pays next to no taxes and BP gets to write off their oil spill as business expenses and taxpayers cover the $9 billion difference. Worrying about a social program designed to help the poor should be further down our priority list. Does it need to be reworked? Yes, but so do many other things. I'd rather focus on my tax money not helping corporations and executives get richer then making cuts to a program that does benefit many poor families.

No ones talking about scum bag companies. I am tired of paying the way for lifetime welfare folks and I would like to see less welfare given. I also think it should be temporary not a lifestyle. I think its funny these people think we working people owe them something. I'm sorry your lazy but at least we don't have to buy you junk food anymore..

before welfare- obesity in people was very low. Given the option of working or starving to death, the good ones will work and the others are not worth saving. cut out welfare and let darwins law solve the problem

I know hard working families out there that w/out the assistance would not be able to make it! Ppl shouldn't be so quick to stereo type! Yes, some take advantage of the system (I support drug testing!) but to lump all recipients into one category is just wrong!

Unfortunately, the bill fizzled out before it even got started! Too many food stamp recipients in Eastern, Kentucky that threatened to withdraw their votes in all upcoming elections for anyone involved in the bill! So, Surprise, surprise, surprise, they "killed" it before it got anywhere! Looks like the obesity problem in Eastern, KY and other parts of the commonwealth as well, will continue to explode, all on the taxpayers dime!

I agree with noturordinary. I know several families that work hard, have children and need assistance. What if that "ho-ho" was for a child as a treat for doing something good....just saying think before you mouth off.

Some people are pretty sick to sit back on there butts and put real people down, Most people getting help are working for some scumbag that don't pay anything but min. wage then they have to have some help, I think people should go to church and ask forgiveness for being so much of a butt head and think everyong has a life like them! and when you go and shake hands with the devel then you know why your there !

What does it matter? Clean the shit off your own door step and dont worry if someone does or doesnt get assistance.

I was on welfare when I got pregnant and for a while after but I got tired of being broke all I had was free housing and food so I got a good job insurance on my child and have zero assistance now... Welfare lasts as long as you meet the requirements. I think I would be a great idea if it didn't buy junk food so even if the parents got it the whole time their children were under age atleast they would be healthier! I am proud of myself and love being able to give my child the things he wants I think if welfare was harder to get then more people would be forced to work and see it the way I do!

Way to go 'personally'. You are a good example of what government assistance is for. Only a crutch when you absolutely need it.

And I dont see how anyone can have a reasonable argument about taking junk food away from food stamp recipients.

I love hearing stories like this. Good for you and your kid and his kids and on and on will benefit from what you did. It's to bad you are the exception. My first wife and I received free housing and food stamps several years ago and I was motivated as hell to get out of free housing. Man that is the worst and yes there are lots and lots of people perfectly happy living on welfare their whole lives. I'm happy to hear stories like this. At least there are two of us now that made it.
