Did anyone else just see a very bright object streaking across the sky at 10:33 p.m. CST 12-7-11? It looked like a meteor heading due South.

I'm in Bentonville, AR and I saw this object. It was a large white light, with a long trail of white behind it, and a vibrant blue crescent moon shape around the front of it.

I saw it low on the horizon to the south, greenish-blue with a very long tail. It was at 10:33 PM. Must have been huge if seen from as far north as I am, 5 miles south of Wisconsin border.

Interesting. Someone in Wisconsin saw it low on the horizon to the south. I saw it from Kentucky to the west of me headed south. It looked like it was only a mile away, but I knew it had to be several miles (or hundreds of miles) away of it was burning up on entering the atmosphere. You say you saw it heading to the ground. Are there any local reports of a meteor strike last night?

It's nice to know other folks saw it and it's amazing to be able to find so many others so quickly through the internet. There was nothing spooky/freaky about it: It was obviously a meteor or falling piece of space debris.

I've seen a few meteor showers and now I tend to believe this was not a meteor, but a falling piece of space junk. The reason I say that is that it seemed to "flame out" rather dramatically at the end. Did anyone else see a fairly dramatic final flame out?

it was a fireball, which is a meteor that is larger than normal, if you seen it your lucky because they are rare, cause most happen during the Day, google tht date and meteor and it will tell you all about it

Thanks for the tip! This is what we all saw:

One question, if you don't mind. How can you be certain it was a large meteorite (fireball) and not a large piece of space junk?

good question, personally not sure in my opinion it could have been, I was just quoting remarks from the u.s. meteorological society
