Marshall County has one of the best school systems in the state. Teachers getting pink slips, well the system doesn't have a lot to do with that. Staffing is set based on projected enrollment, and it's WAY down for next year. Also the state is is broke and the funding for education is down.

As far as Coach Barnard, how many games did the football team win the 4-5 years before he got here? Oh...that's right: not too dang many! Sounds like some of the coaches and players needed to be gotten rid of!

It is WAY down for next year for a REASON, parents are smart and are removing their children because we see that the education and the school system is not what it once was! Has one of the best in the state?? I do not think so!

Why don't you compare ACT scores of Marshall to other county's, we are among the top in the state, I'm a senior and I am proud of the education I received, at MCHS. My teachers have prepared me for college

First off the teachers care, if the student puts forward the effort that they want to learn. If they are your kid and sit there and want everything handed to them, then the teacher isn't going to try. It is as simple as that. You must be two high on meth to realize that.

Marshall County IS one of the best school districts in KY. And the reason enrollment is down for next year isn't because parents pulling kids out. It's just a down year. Attendance has been up for the last couple of years because a lot of parents pulled their kids out of McCracken and sent them to Marshall County. They don't like the new mega-school or the location out past the mall. Now that exodus from McCracken is about over. The district had to hire more teachers the last 3 years to cover that increase. Now that attendance is projected to be down next year, they have to pink slip some. That's the way it works. The state funds for a certain demographic. Blame the state for cutting funding if you wish, but don't blame Trent and the school board. They can only do what they are told. They don't like it either. And a new teacher understands. Most of them get pink slipped several times before they get their tenure in. Most of them will get hired back. That's the way it's always been.

You're going to base a school on its football team? Someone below posts that before Barnard, football was bad for 4-5 yrs. it was less. Just three yrs before Barnard, MCHS made some decent football runs under S Shelton. Oh yeah, the only playoff game winning coaches in the last 20 yrs have been Sheltons. Marshall football is what it is ... Mediocre at best. The records are about right every year based on the talent. When it's good, we're good and when it's bad, we are bad. The only reason there was a winning season was because MCHS played Crittenden and Ballard... joke. The reason mchs was in the playoffs was because ALL district teams made it due to number if teams. Why do people see it any other way?
We're in danger of having two schools ... White trash losers whose actions are punished by the school and their parents and they gripe on this forum, and real students who are being pushed by good teachers. Academics have never been stronger at MCHS than they are now. The second group shouldn't have to tolerate the first nor support them later with their tax dollars. It's a microcosm of America and its not a race matter. It's a class matter.

Mr. Lovett is more concerned with protecting the image of Marshall County than protecting the students. He doesn't want any attention drawn to our county- just shove all the dirt under the carpet.

wow...you obviously don't know Mr. Lovett very well. When the kids had the wreck a couple of weeks ago in Draffenville in front of Shop-O-Rama, guess who was one of the first people at the hospital to check on their well-being? Mr. Lovett, along with Danny Davis. That certainly is "shoving all the dirt under the carpet." He absolutely cares for the students at the school.

I just wished he wasn't so snootie. Even his parents whom I've known for years won't even speak when you run into them at walmart. We all put on our britches the same way every day.

I have been going to MCHS for 3 years, and yes I will admit that there are some teachers that care, and actually want to teach you, and then there are others that don't want to do anything at all. This coming up year would be my senior year, and I will be enrolling to Star or going to Livingston due to some of the teachers and the students. Its hard to go to a school where all the preps pretty much run it. And me being the outkast, its hard to pass some of my classes or stay out of trouble. And the whole ACT scores, the reason why there so high is because 3 weeks before the ACT, we did nothing but sit in a class for 90 minutes and do ACT prep work. To me, the best teachers in that school are the tech center teachers, They will acaully tell you what life is all about. MCHS wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for the stupidty and drama that takes place, and no one does anything about it. Until someome steps up to the plate and admits that MCHS is a sports centered school and Tries to help us, I would't suggest to anyone to go there. But thats just my thought.

You're going to be disappointed wherever you go to school with that attitude. Marshall is a good school. Compare it to Livingston, and it's a great school. All schools to ACT prep work because colleges place so much emphasis on it. If it's hard for you to stay out of trouble, sounds like the problem is you. Put your head down and do your work, and you will pass. No problem.
