So, with Seth Tate quitting early in the year and Ryan Miller finsihing the year, who will be the next girls coach? There is some talent there, but not alot so who do you think will be interested and throw their hat in the ring?

Doesn't Mark Dial coach the junior high girls? I thought he was on the high school board. That would be a conflict of interest. I've heard a former player and a former JH coach may be interested.

Yes, he coaches the jr high girls. I am not sure if it would be a conflict of interest by being on the board at the same time you are a coach. LaBuwi was both, with the exception he was a volunteer coach.

The girls coach will be Curt Reed if he wants it. Andy Sloan then gets it if Reed doesn't want it. This is already a done deal.

Why would Reed want it? And Sloan is a boys assistant. I think someone like Cantrell or Dyel may want the job. Also hear the Akin coach is interested. As the deadline gets closer, this could become interesting. How will it all unfold?

Curt Reed does want the job! He is at every girls game and has told several he would take it if offered. Andy Sloan is interested especially after this boys season. Danny Stewart is lobbing hard after the job. I could name up to 9 more interested applicants. What amazes me is why all the activity surrounding the job? The team still has no point guard, no inside game, or zero team speed. There junior high years were spent dominating in size and never developed the fundamentals it takes to play high school basketball. It will take more than a new coach with new ideas. Big slow girls then and big slow girls now!

Curt Reed would be a mistake and he is only wanting it if there is something in it for himself.

Danny Stewart, nice guy, but has no business being a basketball coach at a River-to-River school.

Mark Dyel, that would be a nightmare. Mark needs to stay at the grade school. Plus, it would be a serious conflict of interest if he took the HS job, seeing that he sits on the HS BOE.

Sarah Stowers, not a bad choice. She was a decent player in high school and has had some success at the JH level coaching BOYS. This would be my second choice if Sloan didn't take it.

Andy Sloan is by far the best choice for this job. He knows how to coach, both boys and girls. He knows about the game, and besides Curt Reed, has the most experience in coaching anything.

Should be an interesting time as we wait and see what BCHS is going to do.

Out of all these people you named, how many were at games watching the girls play this year? All of them except Andy Sloan. Why,if you wanted to coach them next year, would you not be interested enough to go watch them play some this year?

Was there ever an add for this position? I personally feel they should find someone who isnt coaching elsewhere or on a board. To me thats a conflict all the way around. This would be to make it fair for all the girls involved. So there is not "special attention" to certain girls and other to sit. Ive noticed this happens alot in the little town.I do know a person who wants to coach the team and would be great and would not play favorites. Just a suggestion.

Andy Sloan was at several games. I think it is a bit hard to be in two places at once (Boys BK Practice or an underclass game).

And yes, there has been an ad in the newspaper as well as the IBCA coaching site.

Untrue!Sloan was not at several girl's games. The girls' games are played late enough so a coach of another team could be there, especially if he wanted to coach them next year. The boys' coach was there a few times, but not Sloan.

I think Sloan is the best choice for the job! You can't take junior high coaches or school board members or parents and expect anything other than Tate's performance! Get real! He is the only candidate that is a teacher! I bet he builds on their numbers and girls who didn't play show up! When you have better girls in the stands than on the floor it does make for a tough season! Coach Sloan all the way!

What experience does Sloan have? Someone was putting down being a jr high coach but at least they have experience running a basketball program.
How about Brian Gibson from Sesser? He turned their program around and now he's not even coaching,

It will be interesting. However, I don't think someone should/should not be hired based on the number of times they've seen a team play. Since when did that become a prerequisite? I do think there are some good applicants. Showers has done well at Akin, Reed is Reed, and Sloan has experience and runs a highly successful track program and knows what it takes to win but coaches on the boys staff currently.

The real question is, who will apply. I've recently talked to one of these people and they told me they were leaning towards not applying. We need to find out who is actually going to apply before we make a hire on here.

I think Sloan coaches the sophomore team.At last count,he had more technical fouls than wins.Good candidate!Let's move the boys' reputation over to the girls'.

I liked Tate, he didn't show favorites and wasn't influenced by the parents. I would rather someone who didn't watch the games that can go in there with an open mind and see all girls for their skills, not for who their parents are or the favorites that are already there, because some of the favorites just aren't that good anymore.
