I wont be needing to join, I work for a living and dont need to go somewhere to exercise. But theres plenty of flabby fatties in the area tho, I'd think this business would thrive in the mcfood belt. Not to mention the owners are extremely nice ppl.

I like the Benton Fitness Center. I believe people will run out and join Stark Fitness because it will be new. But they are not going to have much room! You people are going to be cramped in a tight space with all that they are wanting to put in there. I hope they do well but I will remain at Benton Fitness. And Lindsey has always been nice to me when I am there.

Hate to tell all of you who are trying to start stuff on here that the Starks are actually really great people. Trying to stir up crap on here is actually going to hurt the Benton fitness center because although you'll write back and say you aren't associated with them, the negative posts sure sound like they're coming from someone who is jealous. It's not making the Starks look bad. It's making you look bad. Maybe you aren't worth speaking to in public. And I know William from the bank and he's always been extremely nice and helpful and has NEVER given me the impression that he thinks he's better. And trust me, I go with what I see, NOT by what some coward says hiding behind a computer

First of all, its new business... and that's a positive. If you don't want to join, then don't, but don't knock people for trying AND improving the Rend Lake Shopping Center.
Second, they won't run anyone out of business that is taking care of their customers. If people like where they are, then they will stay, if not they will have to be more competitive or lose business.
Third, as for Walmart, all they did was bring value to the local shopper and Walmart didn't run them out of business, the community did by not supporting them. If they were so good, why did people stop shopping there and go to Walmart. This community is large enough to support multiple businesses of the same type, people have a choice where they shop and do business.
Walmart came in with the grocery items at a lower price than the local grocers could sell them for. In this economically depressed area, naturally people went the cheapest route. This slowly killed the locals and when THAT happened...Walmart RAISED their prices as they saw fit after the locals closed up. Now they are about the only dog in the hunt, unless you want off brands at Savalot. If we, and yes, I include myself in this, had known then what we know now, we would have shopped local and absorbed the extra cost for locals to stay in business. As far as the Starks? GOOD LUCK TO THEM! WE WILL JOIN!! They will be a locally owned business with so much more to offer. What will happen to the other places? There will be some dedicated stay with them. I don't belong to a gym now, but with the babysitting offered at the Starks, I will be going there.

Was thinking the same thing. I heard it's like 17,000 square feet. Wow, how will they ever fit everything in a 17,000 square ft space??? Hilarious. So, like I said (but for another reason), let's all go to the Benton Fitness Center, it's so huge over there!

Good post. I would assume people would have loyalty to BFC if Don Storey still owned it, but the new owner of two years not so much. Not for personal reasons, but just because it's a new group running it. Now they will go for whichever they think they get the most bang for their buck from.

Well,I am not from benton nor am i affilated with anyone from either place, but i wanted to say this. Who ever said that stuff about Walmart not shutting out small businesses really should get educated on Walmart does. there is a video probably at your library or on line called Walmart, the high cost of low prices. Did you know when a walmart comes to your town the poverty rate goes up. did you know that they pay their employees just enough to be eligible for state aide. did you know that once banking comes fully into action at walmart that all of your local banks will be severly hurt. walmart is a monopoly and you are not even aware that is happens. just saying, please read up on that even though it has nothing to do with the BFC or the New gym.

Seriously people, let's not get all bent out of shape because the Coxes might actually have to step it up to compete with a new fitness center. I think it's ridiculous that people are acting like the Starks are doing something wrong by coming up with a great idea and following through with it. Should we never open another restaurant just because there's already an Applebee's here? What's the difference? Some people like the BFC, and that's fine--they are more than welcome to stay there. If others want to try something new, that's their choice. This is still a free country, isn't it? I think the new business will be a great success, and I wish them all the best--and to those of you who want to personally attack the Starks, maybe you need to focus more on your own issues. Nobody's perfect!

My husband and I will be joining! I love the fact it will have the daycare on sight (other gyms around this area do not), and the different classes they are going to offer. Nothing against the owners of BFC, this new gym just has more to offer.

I think that benton fitness center is a fine gym. I am also excited to welcome Starks new gym. It seems they will have lots to offer and my family will be joining. I have never been given a bad impression of the Stark family wish them well in their business venture.

I for one am excited about Stark fitness center. It is all about choices. People can choose to go wherever they want. If it is the one in christopher, great if it is BFC that is also great. Competition can be good for us too. I also heard the one in w.f. was good. For me, I will go local. Let us see who can have what is best for me.

I think it's really funny how the other gyms in the area are so incredibly terrified by COMPETITION that they're going on this website to try to hurt other businesses! I can't wait for Stark gym to open, they'll be getting my business for sure!

I would have to know who the trainers are before I go there. Any clue who they will be & exactly what their trainers certifications will be? Thinking about hiring my friends son, who is certified, to work with me and 3 of my friends. I would rather pay the extra money that I would pay for a membership to have someone with the proper certification.

I would prefer someone who has the NASM Cert. or something equal to that. I could probably get enough people together to have some sort of a 'boot camp' a few times a week, just depends of what types of certs and services this place has to offer. I had a work injury, and my physical therapist said these things would be good.

We are new to town and talked about joining the bfc but its always packed which in terms is a good thing. I think with this other center being on the other side of town it will benifit people there. Sorry to say but true. I havent checked out Bfc but my daughter who is 16 wants to go there ans 35 a month is a little steep. but who knows. I wish i had a gym when mine were little I could take them to. More power to anyone who wants to try their hand and has the chance to do it.This drama will die out. I will personally check out both. Im not old but not young would like a gym with a more nuetral age group and classes offered. KUDDOS STARKS. We will most def check both out and i live very close to Bfc. Its true people go where they get more bang for their buck. When is this new gym opening any word? Theres enough buisness for both I know many Hs students go to BFC. Good luck to both.
