Earlier on today I was on lunch break and after I had finished eating, I went to get some gas before heading back to work. I filled up my tank and went in to pay thinking that it would be a quick trip. I could not have been more wrong. The person in front of me was a morbidly obese, heavily tattoed, trashy looking woman who was buying a large amount of junk food (i.e. sodas, candy, Little Debbie snack cakes). While her 4 or 5 out-of-control children were running around the aisles screaming, this charming lady proudly whipped out her LINK Card. The whole time, she was taking her sweet time gabbing it up with the cashier and she seemed to have no concern that the person in line behind her might have places to be. To top it all off, she had to get cash back on her LINK Card so she could buy a pack of cigarettes and a pint of Chrystal Palace vodka, making it take even longer. I ended up being late getting back to work because of her. Does anyone else just love how inconsiderate LINK Card users are? Why should they be in a hurry? Its not like they gotta be anywhere, fuck the people who have to work so their taxes can fund their couch potato lifestyles.

Link cards are the worst thing the government's ever created... You can always tell someone has a link card, because they buy tons of junk without considering price or anything.

You're a liar. You can't get cash on a LINK card. That's why they started the LINK program. I used to have to give change back to customers that used food stamps(up to 99 cents) and they would go through the line 5 times with one pack of Kool-Aid so they could get enough change to buy a pack of cigarettes. They could also sell the Food Stamp Coupons to anybody with two nickles. Now with a LINK card customers receive no change. A LINK card holder now can go to the store and buy items and sell them but selling the card would end their benefits. Please don't take my word for it, go to any business that accepts LINK cards and ask. There is a chance if you do, I will be the person behind the counter that you are asking.

You are wrong. If the recipient is entitled to both food and cash benefits, both are accessed with the Link card. See:

http://www.dhs.state.il.us/page.aspx...

"If you are eligible for cash and SNAP benefits, you will access both with the same card. Only one Illinois Link Card is issued per case."

I know plenty of people who get link and sell the money on the card for half the price it is worth to their friends. Their friends just use it for their groceries and save money as well.

Let me add my favorite, Link users that buy multiple energy drinks. Really, go get a job and work, maybe it will keep you awake skank

Amen, amen, and amen! I have said MULTIPLE times how f'd up the link card system is, and pretty much society in general. I say, make one lay where link card users can go and let us working people that actually have to report to work somewhere, use the rest of the lanes. I get so irritated waiting behind these people I could just freaking vomit! When you work 60-70 hours a week, you don't really have a whole lot of sympathy left for this bull shit. Drug test the mother f**kers and that will get rid of a bunch of them.

You say you work 40-50 hours weekly... and you still need assistance? Even at Illinois' minimum wage of $8.25/hr, a 40 hour workweek will gross a $330.00 paycheck, a 50 hour workweek will gross over $410.00 or if overtime is paid - close to $460.00 weekly. If you still need welfare assistance, you are apparently living far beyond your means. This is Southern Illinois, not LA or NYC.
It's time to cut back and learn to support yourself within your means without sucking the welfare tit.
OMG! I agree with jester?!?! What's----hap----pening? AHHH!!

Yes Jester! If people would go back to the basics and quit thinking that they had to have the best of everything, and only live with the necessities, they could do it. God forbid they not have a cell phone, and a new car. And all you people that talk about paying taxes! What taxes are you paying? Are you home owners like myself, who pay outrageous property taxes? This is just speculation, but I highly doubt that you own a home. That's enough of my ranting today. I have to go to work.

I believe all link card and welfare receivers should be drug tested first!!!! then they should have to do some kind of work to get there free money. instead of laying around looking for a hand out. there is people who work 60 to a 100 hours a week and pay tons of taxes to support the leeches of society. who go buy hundreds of dollars of groceries on a link card then whip out a pocked full of cash to buy cigaretts beer and video games and who knows what else. and its bull shit.

AMEN! I have to get drug tested for my job, my husband has been through the testing at both his jobs. Why shouldn't someone getting a handout have to go through the same process as we have to go through?

I just went grocery shopping last night and sat behind some guy who was buying mostly pre-packaged, junk food, soda and and a ton of T-bone steaks on a link card. Now, in my cart there was tons of vegetables, a bit of chicken and some ground beef. It must be nice to be able to buy steak, since I have bills to pay and no hand outs, we only get that as a treat. Oh and we don't buy soda but once or twice a month because it's ridiculously expensive.

Our government needs to put some better limitations on where our tax money is going. If you are elderly or disabled, by all means, get the link you deserve. If you are able to work, get off your lazy butt and WORK like the rest of us.

i also believe people who live on link cards live in public housing, collect child support and have a significant other living with them helping them pay their bills should be reevaluated and have to pay the money we hard working tax payers have paid out to support them back. they live better than people who work hard and try to make a decent living without government support.

You people can not put all link card users into one category. there are plenty of people out there who get link benefits that have jobs.and you should watch wat u say because one of these days you may loose your job and need help. and before any dumbass on here asks i do not get link or any other assistance.
