My wife and I are interested in moving to Benton. What is the area like? How is the cost of living? Are there rental places that are handicap accessible, allows pets and are in the $500 range?

Sure you want to move to Benton? They skin dogs alive there and parents burn and bury their unwanted newborns----Read related posts in Topix.

Benton is boring. Check out nearby Bryant, AR. It is closer to Little Rock, with more amenities and attractions for new residents.(Benton and Bryant are age-old cross-town rivalries, but both great places to livel.)
Even if Benton is your only option, some good resources to try are the area chambers of commerce. There is the Benton Chamber of Commerce, Bryant Chamber of Commerce and Saline County Chamber of commerce. Google one of these for access to other resources about the area.

Just because these things happened in this area this time, doesn't mean it won't happen anywhere else. It is not only unfair, but backward-thinking to just assume that Benton is a bad place to live just because of a couple of strange news stories.

Coach, need more info on what type of living space you need. House? Apartment?

I can tell you one thing to avoid: calling classified ads by RENT MAX. They ask you to pay for leads to wonderful homes that they just don't have.

Most apartments in the area (Benton and Bryant) don't accept pets. There are quite a few people who rent houses, but they don't necessarily advertise in the local paper (Benton Courier). You might find more by going to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's classifieds. Here's a link: http://tinyurl.com/2xomac

Post your question on MySaline.com and you should get a few answers there, too. People on there are pretty knowledgeable about the area.

Thank you. That was very helpful. We would like a house to rent until we buy. I will check out that link that you mentioned. Just because one nut abused that poor dog does not mean everyone there hates pets. I have seen that mentioned and implied in other answers and wanted to answer it. Thanks again. I really appreciate your help.

Whatever you do, make sure it's in the First Electric usage area. Benton Utilites are high. I believe Bryant is Entergy.

Benton is a lovely town I have lived here for almost 20 years and think it is a great place. If you have not yet made a move call C21 in Benton ask for Richard, he manages rental properties and has lots of contacts for rentals.

Benton's rates are the same or lower than First Electric or Entergy. When Benton had to raise its rates, it only brought them up to the same as everyone elses. Benton is suffering from bad publicityalso a lot of people don't that on your Benton Utilities bill it also has water and sewer on it as well. Bryant is First Electric.

I don't think so. I have BU, just the electric portion is .10 compared to surrounding .07 & .08. Yes, water and sewer is on the bill. Figure about $30 a month for your water bill for normal usage. And not all of Bryant is First Electric. I know of some that have Entergy.

It looks like my wife's transfer will be Ok with Wal Mart. What we need now is a home to live in. Mobile home would be fine. Does anyone know a private person who rents properties? Please ask them to contact me.

One of the coaches at Benton High School, Dwayne Fishburn, did own and/or manage some rental homes. I'm not sure how to contact him. He might have a listed number. Someone earlier mentioned Richard at Century 21, and he would also be a good person to contact. I rented from him once, he's a good man.

Benton, sounds pretty good about now. Even though I love Bryant and all the things we have, the taxes in Bryant are around 9%. But there's also the water issue: last month, my relatives who live across town and have a total 4 people living in the house, had a $130 dollar water bill!!(We live on the north side of Bryant and still have well water, so we don't pay a water bill.)

If you have kids you'll want to be in Bryant School District.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aquarius

The more you want to control someone, or someone wants to control you, the more difficult life will be today. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so the last thing you should do now is to act as though you own this person, or tell them what to do, because it will be an instant recipe for rebellion and trouble. Mars is retro in your house of significant others and open enemies after all. If you don't want to spoil the evening's celebrations you'll have to make compromises, and hope that this other person will do the same. Don't let the fuss stop you having a very happy New Year's Eve.
