We have to be careful here and not mix up the Birnbachs. There is Gerry...also known as Mr B in the Rowe circle who is the Birnbach the article refers to...and who gave some of his own money to the company....and Barry...his loud and sometimes useless brother.....then there is Bruce. Bruce is Barry's son and this is the man who believed everything that the IT dept. and others were telling him. He was the one who ran the company in the ground and who is currently at the helm of American Leather!

My wife and I bought furniture from Storehouse last summer and it squeaks all the time. We opened a credit card with 18 month no interest financing and have yet to pay a penny. Is there a way we can send the furniture back and "wipe the slate clean". We are very unsatisfied with the furniture. Does anyone know how to help?

several years ago I managed a Home Elements Store.
That was the name of the Rowe Companies showrooms prior to the purchase of Store House. Back then
Rowe was truely a great company to work for. Great product and great people. I saw the changes coming. First the purchase of Wexford Company, which before Rowe was also a great company (no longer around...Rowe bought them and that was the end of that. Then there was the purchase of Mitchell Gold Company. Which they ended up selling back to Mitchell Gold at a lose. Bad decision making and poor management at the corporate level. Don't get me wrong I really loved the store. I managed the Rockville Location for a few years and
and I loved it. Back then prior to the Store house purchase things were good. They just weren't happy being Rowe. They just couldn't be satisfied. So they over extended themselves time and time again. They have "Reorganized" so many times it's a joke. I'm glad I sold my stock when it was still worth something. The remaining shares aren't worth the paper they are printed on. As for the Birnbacks, they are pretty decent men.
They were very accessable to the employees. I just hate that such a good company turned out to be such a bad place. So many people lost jobs. Why couldn't they be happy just being Rowe. Sometimes bigger isn't always better. As for Storehouse, they were better off prior to the Rowe deal. Believe it or not the company Rowe strived to be like was Crate and Barrel, perhaps that is were one can find what they need. You will pay more...but you'll get what you pay for. Good Luck to all.

Life is to short to work in the kind of stess enviroment you are in. I worked for ROWE for 10 yrs the last 2 yrs were the most stressful I have ever lived trying to work thru SAP. The thanks we received? They closed our doors with no thanks for all your hard work, no compensation. But I can tell you there is life after ROWE with a lot less stess. There are plenty of factories in Elliston that you can apply to. I encourage you to find a different life before you end up with high blood pressure, with nothing to show for it. My prayers are with all of the employees left in Elliston. You are still living a heartach, from all of the things that Rowe has done to their former employees and customers.
funny thing now is there going to update the S.A.P computer system on the 3rd of march!

this is just a note form the Poplar Bluff Plant...

Rowe was good at taking care of their employee’s… Here is one for the record….

ROWE was good about telling people to by the ROWE STOCK when it was high… but the day after 9-11-01. I tried to put all my stock in ROWE when it was at it lowest… Some one in upper management put a freeze were the ROWE Employee’s couldn’t buy stock… with in the month they (management) sent out a memo to every one in the Poplar Bluff Plant...apologizing for the mix up… I wonder if withholding stock is illegal…Even more WHO bought into the stock when it was low during this freeze and sold it when it was at it’s highest a year or so latter? I know some one did…. Some one dumped a lot of stock back on the market…and it dropped drastically with in a week…. in the year 2002… I think some one i the goverment should look into this.... not saying any one did anything wrong... it had the employee's wondering!

AKF, the computer program AKA SAP was s hot in the foot. It required ALL pieces to be created within certain guidelines etc. This program wouldn't allow someone who had been there for 20 or 30 years to modify a frame part that was similar to fit the piece that they were working on If the part they needed wasn't scanned in, then ALL production of that particular style stopped until the needed piece came in.Keep in mind, the piece may be something as simple as a triangle of wood. Those folks put up with a lot of change. I will also add that I think their training on the program p[orbably wasn't the best. It is a program that requires a great learning curve. The manufacturing area, at least in Elliston, also went through changes in management. This management also began the implementation of something called Lean Manufacturing. This along with SAP cause many of Rowe's issues. Something that everyone needs to keep in mind is that, the chief only knows what his indians are telling him. Bruce Birnbach was sold a lame horse but his IT department. He did make the final decision on the program nd he then had to make it work.
As someone who has worked with SAP for his entire career, I can tell you that the software isn't what killed your business - it was the people who implemented it. You can make SAP do just about anything you can imagine, if you're willing to put the time/money in to customize it to your business. Typically, however, the most successful implementations do a little bending in both the business processes and some customization of the software.
If you look at the history of SAP, most companited who implement it don't do well or go under.
This is demonstrably false. SAP didn't get to be the 3rd largest software company in the world by selling bad software.
I'm sorry for all the people that lost money or jobs in this deal - that is unfortunate. I myself am going to be out some money because Rowe will not be honoring my warraty.

I too was ripped off by NC Furniture House. Does anyone know the story behind this? I can now add robbed on the Internet to the list of things I have experienced. Thank God I used my credit card. Hopefully they will refund me. I called on the chairs I ordered every two months. They kept telling me that they were back ordered and that there was a 50% restocking fee on cancled orders. I should have seen the writing on the wall...

I haven't ever heard of ROWE furniture until a potential client asked if we brokered their furniture. I googled them, and came across this stuff. I'm really sorry for everything that has happened to the people that have been ripped off. That just makes my job harder. My fiance and I run a furniture brokerage in WA state, and we broker for over 100 companies. We've had our issues, but we've never run into anything like this crap going on with ROWE. Since we're mostly an online type of establishment, people want to see what we have in person, and that makes it hard when we really don't have a showroom. People just have to trust us, and shit like this that has gone on makes it REALLY HARD for people to do that. Meanwhile, we've never ripped anyone off, and we've had great customer service and customer loyalty. Our clients get their stuff WAY before they ever thought they would, and they're happy. I hope the issues with ROWE doesn't leave such a bad taste in the mouth as to not trust the ones that are great companies.(that would be us...!) I guess what I'm trying to say is that there are still good companies out there that are trustworthy. If you'd like to get in touch with us just to vent or whatever, feel free to visit our site at www.bryandavidscott.net and speak your mind through our email. We'll listen.
