The state of Virginia has some pretty ignorant speeding laws. A lot of tourists avoid the state because of the unreasonable laws. Fox example, ANYTHING over 80 MPH is RECKLESS DRIVING!

Also, it is the ONLY state in the Union where radar detectors are illegal.

Crazy.

I think you all need to start demanding some changes.

Tourists avoid your state because of stupid stuff like this.

It is hurting your businesses.

LOL 3rd largest tourist attraction on the East Coast is Williamsburg. Seems your statement is nothing but a speeder that got caught and has to publicly cry about it!

Slow down next time and obey the speed limits!

There is a very simple way to avoid a speeding ticket -- DON'T SPEED. That said, most of the radar is set at 82 mph; that is 12 miles over the posted speed limit. If you are going faster than that, it's no one's fault but yours if you get a ticket. It's not like law enforcement is busting you for 5 miles over the limit. I agree with VA Tazdad....sounds like you got busted and now want to cry the blues about it. Well, just put on your Big Girl or Big Boy panties and deal with it...nobody's fault but your own.

If you don't like our laws, then stay away. I'm sure your state has laws that we don't like. To each his own..........enjoy.

Many tourist complain of how deceptive the cops are when they hide in bushes to catch speeders. Surely we should lift the ban on radar detectors, its are right to bear defense mechanisms against those tyrannical law enforcers.

Wrong as always no-show. Virginia cops are not allowed to hide as you claim. Usually, they are posted around a bend or over a hill, but still in plain sight.

But since a mentally deficient racist moron like you only drives a moped, you wouldn't know nothead.

No, Virginia Cops do hide. There is one part of I-64 where there are a lot of trees and spaces in between them. They love to hide there.

And as for the 82MPH comment, not try. At least not for tourists. They bust them going 1mph over the speed limit.

I have never gotten a ticket in Virginia myself, but I think the laws are ridiculous.

I do know many people who avoid the state because of it.

I only went through the state to get to North Carolina, but I just avoid it now.

I'll gladly stay out of your backwards state.

Just thought you may want to know what tourists think of your state.

LOL That is funny. Somebody from WV calling Virginia backward????

Did your sister kick you out of bed last night? Is your trailer being repossessed? Did your last 2 teeth fall out? Poor baby.

Only an idiot from WV would be stupid enough to drive around a state rather than obey the laws.

Don't come to Virginia. We require drivers to be able to read the signs in this state. 65% of your citizens didn't graduate from high school, yeah.

Feel free to go to Californicate, they like you idiots out there.

TazDad, don't judge all of West Virginia and West Virginians by the statement of one moron. It's a great place to live, and has many, many wonderful people...the same as Virginia, or any other state. Believe it or not, the vast majority of us can read, have all or most of our teeth, and, overall, we're a good, decent group of folks who would go out of our way to help someone.

Funny you should insult our next door neighbor....given the fact that a lot of t'partiers moved into VA from there. I guess you are calling your own stupid and ignorant. Check it out...65% of t'partiers are die hard FOX watchers.....which lends credence to the fact that they have very low IQs. Truth be known, you prolly came from WV.

This is true. Virginia will just keep losing tourists, don't pay any attention to what these haters say. They have the most backward speeding laws in the country and are the only state with a ban on radar detectors. Obviously they are living in the past. I know plenty of other people who avoid the state for this reason. Maybe they will finally change it when the businesses start taking the hit for it. I just feel sorry for the business owners because these stupid laws are harming their business.

Actually, you are VERY wrong. Mass., Conn.,DC, are just a few of the states that don't allow radar det. I do agree with you about using one, because I have one also, but Va. isn't alone on that law.

Actually, you are VERY wrong.

Virginia is the only state in which radar detectors are illegal. D.C. isn't a state.

This is an excerpt from the following link.

"The use of a radar detector in a passenger vehicle is legal in all states with the exception of Virginia, Washington DC. and on military bases."

No decline in tourists over the last 38 years. I doubt there are very many people that "avoid the state for this reason."

Lead footed Yankees continue to come and pay the fines.

By supporting these backward laws you are just making yourself look worse.

Reasonable speed laws are fine. Virginia's are the worst in the country.

If you are proud of that, there is something wrong with you.

Time to get rid of your outdated laws. It isn't the 1950's anymore, cars can go faster than 55mph.

LOL I am not supporting the laws. I simply disputed the claim that Virginia tourism is suffering. Not the case.

Illegal radar detectors are a joke as most departments use VASCAR or better technology.

And the speed limits on 95, 64, and 81 have been raised to 65 or 70 in most of the state. 55-60 is the normal speed limit in urban areas. Exceeding 80 is reckless driving in Virginia. Deal with it.

About the same as everywhere on the East coast. I just drove to Florida and that was the case. Head North to NYC and watch the speed limits drop to 55-65.

Feel free to avoid the state and waste gas driving around it. That is your right.
