Well at least they didn't have to give him 4 years pay, like MAU did to get rid one principal.

Maybe I wear rose-colored glasses, but I believe that the sole reason for wanting to serve on a board is to help the board serve its students and community. At the very least, a board member should have a deep respect and interest in the school he/she serves. It is quite evident that this SVSU manager only wants to join the Board so that he can bring it back under SVSU's umbrella, where it can be swallowed up and controlled by SVSU.

Unfortunately, this bid for the Board comes right after a terrible decision by the present CDC Board, which cost the taxpayers $55,000. I definitely do not have any confidence in the present Board, but don't feel that Pembroke is the right choice either.

How nice it would be if the CDC could find dedicated, intelligent, rational individuals who truly want to work towards the mission of the CDC. Oh, and one more thing- the Board members should be able to think for themselves and not be swayed by the bluster of Frank Lamb. He presides over the present Board as if he believes that he is the "chosen one". I can't even watch the televised meetings anymore.

Let's get rid of Frank and his weenies and bring forth some good people who truly want to serve the CDC!

Why did CDC inport Barone in the first place? His track record would have been a disqualifier...IF the folks that were doing the search for the position were doing their job! I'd start out by firing whoever was responsible for Barone's hiring, just so they won't do the same thing AGAIN. Shooting onself in the foot seems to be a popular pass-time in SoVT.
Look within, or at least locally, as I'm convinced that there is at least one person qualified and willing to do the job. I certainly don't thing that it takes a PhD, either! Get real, Board.

I totally agree with you. If the then acting SVSU Superintendent George Carpenter had done his job, Frank Barone would never had qualified for the CDC position of Director/Superintendent.

His track record showed he should have never been hired to begin with. We can all speculate what the accusation was against him and will probably be spot on. So now we pay him to go away because of the technicalities involving the "situation" that has never been brought out to the public is a fine line and if taken to court it could go either way. Doing things this way will save major court cost for both sides. Of course this is just how I see it. Sweep it under the rug and it will go away. It seems when ever there is a problem in Bennington they just make a payout so it will go away. I wonder if this will trickle downhill somehow?

I think the issue is this- if Barone has done something inappropriate to a student or teacher he should be face crimal charges and not rewards. The charges were filed by another teacher - stalking? nude pictures? who knows? But doing the same as New York by paying Barone to go away is crimal as well. If he did something bad in NY and they convicted him - he would not be allowed in the schools - now Vermont - has also made it possible for Barone to continue to be among students.$55,000.00 is a good deal considering the fact the town may have had to pay 5 times that amount to tell him take a hike. But - when will this con be stopped?

Doesn't this stem from the school bus bullying incident in Arlington a few months ago? His handling of that incident was a total FAIL, and his attitude was as much responsible for the parents reaction and most likely subsequent law suits that will be pending against the school and the bus company than any other factors.

If the school is obligated to pay him for 260 days or WORK, let's check his work computer, cell phone, long liquid lunches, junkets, travel time to meetings, etc. and get a fair accounting of how much he actually worked at the job. If he spends half his work time doing personal business, the CDC should only owe him half his severance. These are tax dollars we are talking about and we deserve a fair days work for the wages we pay.

You're making pretty serious accusations based on a newspaper article that covered a tiny portion of the incident. You really don't know all the facts. You also might want to check your definition of "salaried" employee and an "hourly" one.

I think we shouldn't hide behind fake names. Why doesn't the banner make it necessary that people use their real name? All this banter probably wouldn't be happening. Shame of me for reading all this but I can honestly say I will not partake in it anymore. The last post in the banner brought 66 posts and now we have another six. I for one feel enough is enough. Let's move on for the good of our students and community. We can spectulate on what happened or didn't happen but where is that getting us? I will probably get called "stupid" on my opinion but that's ok. Words do hurt but I can hold up my head and know my interest is in our students and school. Yes we want great things happening in our school and yes we want peace. People let's try to focus on the good and let's leave all the negativity out!!! Good luck to Dr. Barone in his furture endevors and good luck to Robert Montgomery in his new role as leader of a great school.

It had nothing to do with the bus. That was actually handled according to law. the threat was reported to the police as required by law. They investigated, took statements from two adult witnesses and arrested the parent as they saw their duty.

Your plan on Barone would have led to a lawsuit for wrongful discharge. If the CDC lost, they could have been paying 1.5 years salary, court costs and lawyer costs. It also would have dragged out over a couple of years and left the school in a state of trouble. Few things are as simple as they might appear.

I second that Lauri! There are so many positive things happening here. We should be focusing on moving forward!

I understand there isn't a simple solution but the concern should be what kind of message this sends to the students when someone is paid severance for poor performance or to just go away.
