Give me a break - no added expense to tax payers - our country is going down the tube and we keep building expensive buildings in Lucedale that are generally useless - 6,000 sq feet is not very big -out of town folks will be building it - I think it will be the same folks that built the bathroom. It is a long way from Rocky Creek to Benndale and how fast will the one fill up in town. Folks we have lived for hundreds of years without these building in Lucedale - why not spend this money on Schools or something that would be an everyday benefit. Tax payers pay for every thing that happens in this country - there is no money tree in DC. I will stay home just like usual - I just will not say all I am thinking about this - it is just too ugly for me to say.

Would it not be more logical to put these shelters at schools - students could use them and also have them for shelters when we have tornadoes - the citizens of GC will only get to feed folks from the coast when storms come - am I just getting old and mean?

Am I the only person that thinks this is dumb? We will be paying power bills, insurance, maintenance, etc on two buildings that will not be used very much. Think what this money could do for our schools. They will be filled with people from the coast, why not just build them there. Out of town folks are building them - will you go to one of these shelters for a storm? I won't, because most people just pile in there and want to be taken care of. Think about who will use these buildings.

I'm sure that if the shelter's were not built and a storm comes and they are needed someone will be complaining that there are no shelters. Money for buildings such as these usually come with stipulations where the money has to be used specifically for what is spelled out. I don't know if that is the case with these shelters but I am willing to bet that it is. If the money is not used it is like giving it away because someone will get this money ( in another county). It is not up to the supervisors or whatever county/city official to say "no, I think we will use that money for the schools". Ignorance about laws, regulations, etc. usually result in comments such as the ones started on this thread. I in no way pretend to know all the laws, rules and regulations but I do try to find out all the facts about something before I start spewing negative comments about anyone in positions such as our city/county officials.

I have not spewed negative comments about our officials - I am just spewing in general - I am a tax payer and I am sick of our government throwing money around. We are losing our position as a world leader because of debt - this building will be built on borrowed money - I do not understand it. These buildings will be a liability for our county. I am, also, aware that grant money must be used for the project that is stipulated, I just don't know why there is grant money. Why are we using out of county contractors. People have always gone to schools and churches in the past - our government cannot protect us from everything.

You are right cipsaw. I do agree with the crazy spending when our country is so in debt. Sorry I jumped to the conclusion that you were talking about our local officials only. I hear so much negative around about our local officials and I am right about people saying things without having all their facts straight. Again I appologize. I wonder where all of this "grant" money or whatever it is comes from too!

If you want to save lives take the money and put in a over pass at Hwy. 63 - Hwy. 98 intersection. You know like the one at Figfarm Rd and Hwy. 63. That still makes no sense to me. I wonder hom many people have died at that intersection?

You are correct - fixing 98 would save more lives. I just don't think storm shelters are necessary here. If they are going to be full with out of town folks, just build them where they live.
