You bet it's important to "invade" your children's privacy. Children are under the authority of their parents, & parents should never be intimidated by children who throw temper tantrums over so-called privacy issues. As long as a child lives under your roof, you had better know what he or she is up to, & you as a parent need to intervene if the problem is greater than the child is capable of handling or if your child is up to no good, trying to destroy the lives of other people.

did I miss somehting....the friends' mother bullied the young girl?? is that what caused her to kill herself...Was the terse text message convo with the adult.. Either way, not cool.. kids should know, that they'll be grown soon and to ignore the bullying or get help.. your life isn't worth it..beat the other persons ass or try...if not then tell on them HARD and everytime..!!

It seems that with each retelling, this story gets more and more distorted.

Megan’s mother told her to sign off well before the worst of the messages reached Megan. Megan didn’t listen. Mrs. Meier was quoted as being “shocked at the vulgar language her daughter was firing back at people” then she and Megan argued after which, Megan ran to her room. I have no reason to doubt that Mrs. Meier would’ve intervened much earlier and this wouldn’t have happened but she had other responsibilities to attend to – sometimes we just need our kids to do as we tell them to do.

None of this excuses the behavior of the idiot Lori Drew & co. but it’s not as cut and dried as your first three sentences would suggest. See the 10 Nov 2007 Post Dispatch story.

totally agree.......the child had to be ill or plagued before this to let harsh words on a computer be the cause of her death those parents need to take some responsibilty and stop pawning it off on someone else......teach your children to grow a thick skin the world is not always a kind place......blessed be
