Oh and if you had any idea how economics work you would know not to base your budget on bonuses.

Everyone crying about the loss of BONUSES when the economy crashed..... Do you realize that tmmk employees are some of the very few in Kentucky that didn't lose their job and kept making the same hourly pay. Most of the temps you love to bash work there solely because they lost their job when the economy crashed and are just glad to be able to put food on the table for their family. Everyone's cost of living has gone up not just yours! Everyone would like to make more money, not just you! Your envy and greed has corrupted your mind into believing everyone owes you something. Be thankful for what you have.
If I work for someone then they do owe me something! I didn't force them to hire me and they sure as hell didn't mention they would take away 10k of my pay after working there 15 yrs! At what point should they stop being greedy and be thankful to the workers that made them?

I do agree that Toyota is keeping a lot of money for themselves but all I'm saying is be thankful to have a decent paying job that hasn't laid you off through these crazy times. Don't blame temporary workers for taking an job to provide for their family rather than sitting on unemployment.

I certainly dame blame the temps. Its the full timers that allowed it to get this way because they have the same attitude as you are expressing. Take whatever someone will give you and be thankful is exactly why this country is losing all of its middle class.

No, they are not. Before shutdown they announced that about 40 jobs are moving to the EJP rate ($21 plus an hour) in a year and a half but anyone currently in those jobs can move to a full pay job between now and then. They are tool crib kind of jobs that aren't anything like the jobs on the assembly line. If you ask me, they should have done it a long time ago. Not fair that I've been working my a$$ off in bodyweld for 20 years making the same thing those people sitting on their butts all day are making.

Mississippi Toyota employees start out at about half the hourly pay that the Georgetown Toyota employees start out at. Be happy that you have a steady job and make good money!

Such a great argument. baseball players make $280,000 per at bat. Guess what? Toyota makes more than all the teams combined! Be pissed as hell that Toyota is greedy as hell and you are a wussy for accepting it

You Toyota people are spoiled babies, cry about making more and don't even earn what they pay u now. You are always dogging the temps, but they do the same job for half the pay, and you upset!

I thought we were crying about making LESS, not more? Who's dogging temps? They are getting screwed over much more than us full timers. Sounds like you are the one crying and jealous that we both make more than you make? Just saying.... But I suspect you are actually a temp yourself

Pay Cut this...Pay Cut that... reduced benefits, blah, blah. Toyota cuts you ever so slightly, I'm surprised the Team Member even notices. Toyota's philosophy is deeper than any Team Members' understanding. Their philosophy on making the Team Member thinking A) This is the greatest job you could ever hope to have or B) You believe you're undervalued and betrayed by being kept on the payroll. Yes the Team Member should've stopped this bleeding years ago but now the TMMK workforce is nearly half temporaries and it's kind of not a good thing for Toyota for this single reason...Half+1 of 7,000 employees is 3,500+1 but since there are so many temporaries now the 50%+1 rule now puts that number at 1,750+1.
Also, the fact that since 2008, Toyota has been less than shy retracting pay and benefits that have been in effect since the beginning...they're doing it at a rate that people are actually noticing and that information is being retained by the Team Member. It used to be, things were taken away but it wasn't noticed by the masses. In short, they got away with it. Nowadays...people are remembering subtractions to their pay and benefits...they're remembering long enough to see the next cut come along and the next cut and so on.
I just want to clarify something. I make $26.71 an hour. I'm a tier 1 Team Member on the pay scale. Up until recently, we had 2 tiers. The Team Member pay and temporaries pay. It's unfortunate that Toyota would do that to an employee...have 2 employees that do the same job but the compensation is vastly different. That has to cause some hard feelings on the floor. I could write a story on pay variances within a business much less employees doing the same job! It's Toyota's New World Order of business practices. Pit the employees against each other but at a level where they still get their product produced and to a level of quality that they can sell and have the employee not knowing who's working the puppet strings. Back to my point...Now we're about to have 3 tiers but after an undetermined amount of time it'll be back to 2 and then 1 tier. We'll go from Toyota Team Member pay to Team Member pay and temporary pay to 2 levels of Toyota Team Member pay and then to temporary pay to all employees...if any Toyota Team Members are reading this and you're thinking your pay won't be cut, you're living in a dream. It's coming, it's just a matter of time. Their memo after the announcement of our fellow Team Members receiving a 20% paycut stated this..."other cuts are highly likely" I'm surprised they even gave us a heads up like that. Usually they just say, "No, no other pay cuts are planned." However, they're not shy anymore, they know they can treat the Team Member however they want and there's nothing they'll do about it. The Team Member is defenseless and they're not defending themselves.

Go ahead and ask yourselves in your mind this...you're making $60,000 now...would you do the same job for $50,000? Heck yeah I would! This is a great job!

Would you do it for $40,000? Well...yeah. I mean, I hurt from the repetitive motion but I'm young and it's still a good job.

Would you do the same job for $30,000? Uh...I dunno...I guess. I don't have anything but a High School education and that's pretty good. I'd keep it just because maybe, down the road, Toyota will raise my pay back up where it used to be.

Toyota thinks you're a really hard worker but they've got to make cuts somewhere so would you do your same job for $25,000?
No! No way! I can't do this job for that! It's not enough.

Everybody has a breaking point. My compensation increased every year from year 1 until 2008 then it started going backwards and it's looking like that's the way it will continue to go. I'm not talking about hourly pay, I'm talking about total compensation. I drew the line at one point and you drew your line at $25,000.

Where's your line in the sand?

Very good article!! The mind control is firmly in place at Toyota. The employees are fully programmed to accept the concept of accepting lower and lower wages as compensation for their tenure and just being thankful.
Can you imagine getting offered a job and them stating, "we are starting you out at $20/ hr and with hard work and dedication you can be at $16/hr in less than 3 years"?
Now, would your thoughts be "well,$16/hr is still more than I'm making now". Or "you're freaking stupid"?

People on the line are paid very well for their credentials. What do you all expect for a high school diploma? Look at all these big houses that people built because they were dependent on overtime and big bonuses. This is all tied to the economy. In case you haven't noticed, the past few years were not that good for the economy. Did you expect them to keep paying you the same bonuses and overtime pay? Bonus amounts are not guaranteed, they are tied to Toyota profits.

no pay is guaranteed! but when you are hired and they explain the bonus is part of your pay then it is expected! we are out of the recession and profits are booming again. yes, we EXPECT pay to return to normal just like their profits! not lowered

What economy do you live in? We ARE NOT out of the recession, but Toyota is doing very well. I'm sure that your bonuses will improve with the profits. Stop listening to scare tactics.

"dumbies" says he's "sure" that bonuses will improve with the profits of Toyota. Wake up. If you actually worked at TMMK, you'd know that the bonuses are a thing of the past. These are not "scare tactics" in any way shape or form. If you deny that this is Toyotas future for its employees then you have slipped into a coma. That 8% paycut coming to powertrain and plastics, I just heard that tonight.
Maybe we should just blow that rumor off too and say "that'll never happen to me" until you wake up one day and have a special meeting at the start of shift...uh oh, I'm getting a paycut! And there's nothing you're gonna be able to do about it. Do you hear that sound? It's the sound of inevitability... Wouldn't it have been nice to have a contract stating what your compensation is going to be for working for them? No set ups where you come into work one day and find out you're going to lose 1/5th of your pay and twist it to make you think you asked for it!?!
Nobody rioted this paycut of fellow team members so guess what? The rest of you just gave them the "go-ahead" the "green light" to do it to the rest of us because why? Because we're not going to do a thing about it. We're sheep...SHEEP!
The union haters can sit there and continue to run their mouths about how Toyota employees who want a voice are nothing short of a bunch of cry babies that are ungrateful for this great job they have. I'm grateful for this job I have been given but at the same time, could someone take this knife out of my back?
It's tyranny. They have absolute power and they'll do to us as they wish. If you're under the impression that Toyota has a heart and they care about you...you're delusional. We're their PAWNS, expendable, every single one of us at any given moment. Broke down like a shotgun with their repetitive manufacturing set up and they have you trained to think what they decide to pay you is actually too much and how dare you ever question them. How dare you speak of trying to organize in an effort to gain a voice for yourself. How dare you ...HOW DARE YOU, you ignorant, under educated people, how dare you question TOYOTA about how they run their business. Get back to your friggin' job, do it exactly how we tell you and shut your friggin' mouth. Keep putting on more parts per process than any other automotive manufacturing facility in the United States...17% more parts per process. Did you just stop the line!?! How dare you! Don't ever stop this line! EVER!
Now go ahead haters...pick my words apart...twist them just like Toyota does to make your lie seem like truth. When it comes to getting organized...I'm in no way thinking of myself, I'm thinking of all of us. We all work in this building for years, decades! We're headed to the end of our Toyota work life and we're gonna get there and have nothing to show for it. Your body is broken, unable to get another job and you'll die broke. It's your life spend it as you wish. I value my life and my health and if my employer takes an excessive amount of it just to produce their product...I expect compensation for it. Because, once it's gone, you'll never get it back.
This is your one chance...find your voice and change your life. This isn't a scare tactic or a threat...it's a promise.
