I live in a subdivision in georgetown, and I had something getting into my garbage cans recently, so I set out a live trap with cat food in it thinking it was probably a stray cat. The next morning I had a raccoon in the trap and now I don't know what to do with it!

Since I live in town, I can't legally shoot it, and it's illegal to transport a wild animal in Kentucky, so I can't even drive it somewhere and shoot it. And relocation is WAY illegal. I really don't know what to do. Can anyone tell me how I can...um...dispose of this thing without making any noise?? HELP!

is there any type of animal control in town? If not, I'd either call the humane society?? Or maybe the police station. Obviously not 911 since it isn't an emergency. At least if you call one of the 2, they could point you in some direction.

Stick your hand in the cage, and try rubbing him, maybe he's a pet.

It's funny someone would mention it being a pet because it's not really all that mean. I think it may actually be somebody's pet. Didn't hiss at me or anything. Oh well, the trashcan thing sounds like it would work. Guess I'll just do that when I get home.

Call animal control before you kill an innocent animal. You can also transport it and relocate it to a wooded area and release it. There is no law against that; we have done it many times with possums.

Just take the damn cage with damn raccoon still inside and just toss it into Elkhorn Creek.

Do it at night, no one will see you and the rest is history!

Had you seen the mess it made, you might not call it innocent...lol Besides, it's just a stupid raccoon and there are millions more of them out there. And yes, it is very much illegal to transport and relocate wild animals. I checked, even though I didn't really want to tote the thing around in the first place. Plus I don't think it's right to take a problem animal, be it a raccoon or possum or whatever, and drop it off somewhere to become a problem for someone else. And like I said, this one seems pretty tame so it may not even survive in the wild if I were to do that anyway. It actually seemed kinda sweet.

Oh well...lol
illegal trapping!
Actually, I'm a little worried about that, which is why I don't want to call animal control. I don't want to get in trouble for trapping out of season or whatever, so probably best if I just take care of it myself. Just needed to know how to do it quietly! lol

David Trimble's wife, Corrine, rescues animals including raccoons. Look up her number in the phone book and give her a call. I'm sure she will know what to do or who to call

Townie, ive trapped several possums with out a liscence {or however it is spelled}. Just take the coon , put it in your car or truck, drive it several m9iles away from where you live, and release it. However, I mist Warn you, open the trap and get away fast causer the critter might decided to attack you . Mostly cause it is trapped in a close space and pissed off.
