All these ideas sound good, but in the long run it will cost big bucks to merge these utilities. If the commission assumes the city's debt, we still owe it, plus the cost of a new water and sewage plant. It wil take tanks, lines, controls and valves also. It is expensive to maintain now, but don't be fooled people. Benham and Lynch together don't have as many customers as Cumberland. They have no businesses or commercial customers. You won't add enough revenue to do any good. The state wants less plants to cut it's cost. They don't care about what it cost us. You can bet that rates will go up no matter what. Now you people print this and put it on the wall. I want to say that I told you so when your rates double and triple after this money saving merger.

Joe Burns was sent by the state to sell us a line of bullshit and make sure we combine services. These people knoew little about what is best for us nor do they care. We will have to foot the bill for their big ideas. If they want all this shit, let them pay for it!

If people think that 1 million dollars the state keeps waving around is going to do this project, then they better wake up. That is just a drop in the bucket. Cumberland spent almost 3.5 million in 1984 to get the water plant painted and 3 dry wells drilled! LOL People here think that a million dollars is going to put the area back on it's feet, build water and sewage plants and tie it all together. I doubt that a million will even see a shovel of dirt moved. I'd say 7 to 10 million might be more in the ballpark. Where is the rest comming from? You'll see when this starts. That is not to mention that the cities will no longer have the water nad sewer money to pay cops, and everything else they now use those funds for. Those rates will increase as well. Where is the study that we payed for . It was hidden to prevent us from learning the truth!

Why don't they merge police, garbage and fire dept's? That should be much simpler and also save money.

yes, everybody buy into the merger, because you will be paying higher waterbills and higher taxes, the 1 million the state grant is a drop in the bucket, get your pocket books ready.....
