Lawyers for the Bend doctor accused of causing a patient's death are arguing that it was nurses who gave the man too many painkillers.

Nurses can only give what the doctor orders. Medical culture at its finest. Blame someone else. Truth is it was likely a cascade of errors and poor judgment by the M.D. and the Nurse!!! Come-on Dr. Hines dtep up to the plate and be a man not a slimy reptile.

THANK GOD!!! I finally have a belief in our justice system!!!!! We are lucky as a community to have dr. Hinz, and is a shame that he had to go threw this lawsuit. He Preformed The same surgery on myself, and gave me nothing but the best care. Over the years I have been a patient of Dr. Hinz he has treated me and my family as well, and has always been overly cautious, not for his sake but for the care he has for our health and long term problems that are highly likely to occur with prescribtion narcotics. Until you have a 5 hour operation, in witch they completely remove your entire ankle bone, and components, manipulating main nerves, then tightly fitting a artificial joint, you will never know the pain that it endures. i was administered the same combination of medications and same dosage, and never had any complications. On the other hand I stopped taking all of my narcotics a month prior to surgery to reduce my tolerence level, and also followed the warning labels, indicating not to drink alcohol. Bottom line no matter what type of surgery you go in for you are made very well aware and sign more than once that there is a possible chance of death. Whether its a 5min ingrown toe removal surgery to open heart, any time you choose to under go surgery especially elective your taking a chance, though slim its still a risk. My prayers were with you and your family Dr. Hinz and they continue to be with you I know how personal you are with your patients and my heart goes out to you, please keep doing what you do, because your are the best at it!!!!

Blame some hospitals for continuing to build Taj Mahals, and not hiring enough healthcare professionals to give excellent quality care to hospital patients, and not paying the nurses well enough. The medical professionals at many hospitals are under paid and overworked. I wonder sometimes why patients have to wait 20 plus minutes or more before their call lights are answered. Given the stress the nurses are put under, I can understand, why such a terrible mistakes may be made. As long as some hospitals continues to build, build build and not hire enough staff, in order to save money for all its building expenditures, or other fancifuls, they will continue to have things like this happen, more deaths and lawsuits.

I agree with Cal... Nurses are only allowed to give what Dr's tell them, except in the case of Nurse Practitioner who can write RX's but i used to work at St Charles and the same nurses are still there.... They play on the computer all day and walk around....they won't write a RX without the Dr's say so.. they are too scared and bored..... As for Dr. Hinz.. Its the Doc's responsibility to check on the paitent recovery.... That's what Followup is... He received Hourly reports.. his fault i he didnt check his pager... Sounds like he's the one to blame.. that's just the way the world works... Everyone can have a slip up. Mistie May have had wonderful care, but obviously that wasn't the case with this guy...
