I had a perfix plug put in my abdomen in 2009. My white count has been slightly elevated every since. I have developed fatigue, joint pain and muscle pain. It keeps getting worse. Is this a reaction to the mesh?

You are the first one that has complained of those symptoms. Your ringing in the ears is called Tinitus and is not a condition that can be repaired. There are some Homeopathic remedies on the market that may or may not work. I have hearing aids given to me by the V.A. and though I have a small hearing loss their main function is to make "white noise" in the background so I don't notice the ringing as much. Your other symptoms are a new one also. I don't know how there "could be" a correlation to the mesh. But there have been some pretty funky other symptoms out there and these may be part of it. I will keep an eye out for similar symptoms. Best of Luck, Terlin.

Hello Becky, your question is not uncommon and you could be having a reaction especially if you have elevated white blood cell count. Have the Dr.'s given you any thoughts on what they think it may be? What other Meds are you on if any? There could be a meriad of causes for your joint pain. Talk to your Doctor about what is happening and if you can see a Specialist. Also, please understand that I am not a Dr. or qualified to make any kind of diagnosis about what you are dealing with. So please do not tell your Dr. that you are getting advice of any kind of expertise from this forum. We are more than happy to have you "bounce" stuff off of us and because of our many posters we can give our thoughts snd experiences to try and haelp. Let us know how you are doing and get back to us with further info. If you don't already have your OP report from your implant, get it from the Hospital where it was done. You will need that information. And PLEASE go to the FDA MAUDE data base and make a detailed report to them about your experiences. You will need the OP report to answer some of their required questions. Best Wishes and Good Luck.

hello My name is David Ramey I Had a Bard Marlex Mesh put in in 1998. About a year or so later I started heving trouble getting out of bed in the moroings I felt like someone had beat the hell out of me while I was sleeping My legs and arms were killing me ,and I felt like I hadn't sleept at all.I have had every test done over the last fourteen years,A couple of months ago I develloped a scab above my belly botton ,it wouldn't heal.I went to a Surgeon two days ago who took the scab and the tissue below it off for test he says that he thinks there will be some mesh particles that are infected and they will need to remove the mesh.Could this be what has been making me sick all these years should I consult an attorney?

Hello David and Wecome to the Forum. Marlex can and has held within its material bacteria that after 3-5 years can start developing an infection. It also sounds as if your body may be rejecting the "foreign body" now as indicated by the scarring. And the Dr.'s comment about there being "Mesh Particles" would indicate to me that the mesh has dissolved and is now migrating. That is another common occurence of mesh. If you read through some of the posts from previous pages you will find that many of us have experienced the feeling that we have had the crap kicked out of us or aches and pains similar to Ruematoid arthritis or Fibromialga. Though there have been no "links" to this in studies with a mesh product but it seems to be common among mesh recipients. You will, if you do not already have it, your OP report from the hospital where the mesh was implanted. Next, PLEASE go to the FDA MAUDE reporting site and make a DETAILED report about your experience with the Marlex plug. You will need your OP report before you do that. And you will need to go to the Bard website to make a product complaint to them. Please do this as we need every mesh victim to make detailed reportd to the FDA and the Manufacturers. Your mesh was implanted in 1998 so you may be well past the Statute of Limitations for a lawsuit. There are MANY attorneys that are advertising their services to sue for mesh damage. It will be a hard task to find a Lawyer will represent you but you may have luck. Do not be disappointed when you have several rejections though. The Lawyers are glomming on to the Gyno mesh trials now and we as men with hernia mesh etc. are fairly well abandonded at this time. There are many things coming soon that may change that situation so do not be discouraged. It is because of this situation and also to get you started on gathering all your information that I ask you to make your reports to the FDA and the Manufacturer as soon as you can. If you have to have the mesh removed DO NOT HAVE THEM DESTROY IT!!! Have someone in the Operating room to document the explant! Get still pictures of the remains of the mesh and ALL Dr.'s comments about what was removed, what it looks like and the Pathology report. Have the mesh frozen and saved at the medical facility or if you get a Lawyer, get it somewhere that it will be safe and "uncontaminated". This will be very important to you, your case and also for any future mesh investigations. Let us know how you are doing and what the Dr. decides. You are not alone with your dealings with mesh. There are literally Thousands of us out here suffering with Meshoma, lack of information and interest from the medical community and unfortunately our wonderful FDA. So get back to us and let us know how you are doing and Best of Luck and Best Wishes.......

Trying to understand your Forum name. ramshawed2000? Have you had surgery by Dr Ramshaw? If so did you have any problems? Was the outcome good, bad or ugly? Did Dr Ramshaw repair any past hernia failures? Please let me know.
Yes, he implanted the full abdominal mesh that started giving me problems within a yr of it being implanted. Three surgeries to "remove adhesions", prior to the major surgery that nearly took my life at 43; in which the mesh eroded and perforated my small bowel and bladder. I'm left with chronic pain and "peripheral nerve damage". The Krazy thing Is that to reconstruct my abdominal wall my own Davis was used 10 yrs later. Go figure That!!!
The major problem with these mesh products Is that they All need to be removed from the market.
I wish you luck in All that You are dealing with.
So my moniker Is in fact to Slight this "man" who was once "top doc" on implanting mesh Is Now "top dick", removing them.

New to forum. Got a quick question. Are Hernia's classified as a disability? My friend has had abdominal rebuild, two pass hernia repairs. She just found out she has another one. She has other med problems delt with controled with by meds, perscriptions. Things like thyroid, Bladder UI, Asthma, Edema, allergy plants, bees, etc... ok are these part of having connective tissue issuses. How does she have her immune system check to see if their something going on? Isn't thet done with having blood work done? Thanks.

If a hernia or damage from a hernia is bad enough I am sure it COULD be classified as a disability. That is up to the Social Security Administration to decide. You will need MASS documentation and your friend will have to interview while in a wheel chair. I say that somewhat tongue in cheek but it is a hard and long process with SSI. Be ready for 3-5 years and a couple of rejections before you MAY get an approval. Immune system problems, if you read through this blogs previous pages, are of great concern and is now a common thread with many mesh patients. There is NO scientific evidence of immune systems being compromised BECAUSE of a mesh implant. But with possible chemical leeching, bowel and intestinal problems, infections etc attacking an already compromised body my belief is that we are all being slowly poisoned. But that and 25 cents will not get you a cup of coffee. What I/we think on here is only the speculation of a few thousand mesh victims that are trying to sort out what is happening to them and not getting much in the way of information or support from the medical community or the FDA. There are blood teats that can be done to determine whether or not your friend has allergies but to have the "finger" pointed at mesh as the cause will be damn well impossible at this point. But she should have those tests for her health if nothing else. What make, model and lot# of Mesh does your friend have? Also approx. dates? What are the Dr.'s telling her about the mesh and reacurrent hernias? Is she obese? The Dr.'s are really pinging on this as well as the FDA. She needs to get all of her medical records dealing with the implants, explants ( if any ) and especially the OP report so that she has all of the Mesh info I have requested. I would ask that when she gets that info that she makes a report. A DETAILED report to the FDA MAUDE site and to the manufacturer of the mesh at their web site customer complaint link. Please let us know how she is doing and get back to us. Best Wishes.......
