Are the Japanese co-operating or are they still denying any wrongdoing? Getting information from them has always been like pulling teeth. They still think they won the war.

A book on the I-400 published by Hikoki publications in 2006 included underwater photos of i-401 located off Oahu in March of 2005. Also did you know that Honolulu (Tantalus) was bombed by Kawanishi H8K seaplanes in 1942? How come we don't have a World War 2 national museum in Honlulu since we experienced the start of the war, have the USS MIssouri upon which the war ended, and have now several of the Japanese subs located right off shore. Most service men headed towards Pacific battlefronts came through Honolulu, and many practiced the Allied island hopping strategy here on the islands. All we need is a B-29 which bombed the Japanese home islands to round out the arsenal of military stuff. Add to this our Filipino vets and AJA vets, Hawaii should have a National Museum.

Looking at the signs in Waikiki, it appears they did.

Who edited this article? It keeps referring to AN I-14 and AN I-201. Shouldn't it be THE I-14 and THE I-201? I-14 was a unique boat, and there were only three in the I-201 class, but I'll bet they found THE I-201, not AN I-201.

All right, I'm calming down now....

It would in helpful to the reader to learn what precisely was the revolutionary powerplant that allowed this submarine to be able to go 1 1/2 times around the globe without refueling???!! Did the Japanese have nuke power before the USA???!!! Why am I asking questions after reading the article? Answer: Incomplete reporting.

Barry is in Japan today.

I think Obama should immediately apologize for sinking those poor Japanese Submarines.

Oh, and did you see today? Barry was asked by a Japanese reporter what historical significance the dropping of the nuclear bombs in WWII had.

Since he didn't have his Teleprompter in Chief, he dodged the question and refused to answer.

How shameful.

The answer should have been;

"It is with deep sadness that mankind has gone to the point of using such intense power against one another. I wish no Nation ever used nuclear weapons and I hope that no Nation ever does again.

However, the larger lesson is that aggressor Nations must be stopped prior to allowing them in invade and attack innocent nations. Japan was the aggressor and the initiator of WWII.

In addition to hoping that no Nation uses nuclear weapons from this day forth, I also hope that no nation engages in the types of militaristic aggression which started WWII.

There.

That's all he had to say.

Right from the top of my little ole head.

But Barry can't say that because he doesn't believe it.

What he really believes is that the US is evil and should apologize. But he caught himself.

The facts confirm that the Japanese continue to build the best cars, electronics, ect....
Why is it surprising to learn that they also developed sophisticated submarines and perhaps other technological advancements.
Don't look now but after WWII this amazing research and development must be still going on somewhere in Japan.

Remember Ehime Maru ACCIDENT?

The commander apologized.
The US apologized profusely over and over and over.
Bush apologized.
Lingle apologized.
Huge sums of money were paid to the victims by the US government.
The commander was fired.

Now.

Contrast that with the INTENTIONAL attack on Pearl Harbor which murdered thousands.

No apology from anybody in Japan to this day.

NONE.

Funny culture that Japanese culture which claims to be so proper and polite.

And the US attacked Iraq over false pretenses. Should Pres. Obama apologize for that, too?

Throughout history, certain decisions are made based upon the available information. In hindsight, we realize sometimes the decisions were wrong.

Obama doesn't think this country is evil. That's a perception driven by ignorance. The smart thing is to stop this country from making more enemies in the world.

Want to stop terrorism? Find out what it is that got Bin Laden so ticked off to begin with. There was a time when he didn't intensely hate the US. Do a little research. Find out why these terrorists are so bitter.

Cure the cause, rather than just treat the symptoms. If fewer people hate you, then there's less need to be so defensive.

Haha.

You go talk to Bin Ladin about his "issues"

Um fisherman, its a thing called the Quran.

They believe it.

It's not a psycho-babble development issue.

As far as Bush apologizing?

Maybe. You prove to me he knew there were no WMD going in and absolutely the US should apologize. The entire world at the time, including our most trusted intelligence agencies, were saying he did.

The leadership in Japan who actually instigated the war were gone. The debacle wasn't really the emperor's idea. In fact, the military wanted to prevent the emperor from telling his people to give it up.

Why should any country have to apologize after surrender papers are signed and soldiers finally go home? Did the Germans apologize? Did the Russians or Italians apologize? It's war. And that's just how it is.

What happened immediately after WWII ended?

Remember the Marshall Plan?

The US, along with the Allies, extended a hand to help rebuild these countries. Get them back on their feet.

Ever hear of Dick Fiske? He was on the deck of the battleship USS Virginia when it was attacked at Pearl Harbor. Long after the war he met with Japanese Zero pilot Zenji Abe, who was among the ones dishing it out. Abe was greeted with a handshake and a hug. Two warriors who were bent on killing one another reconciled after hostilities ended.

If these two men can survive and simply forgive an old political rivalry, then maybe the rest of us should learn the lesson and gain a broader understanding of how this world should work.

You are a fool.

The answer is YES, countries should apologize if they have any class and shame. I guess the Japanese don't is what you're saying.

The Germans have most definitely apologized and have done so many times and have many "Museums" which are built to remind themselves and the world of THEIR atrocities.

The Japanese, on the other hand, still have those dead Military guys in shrines of honor.

You are completely clueless to world history.

What is so hard about the Japanese government officially apologizing for its aggression and atrocities?

Why is it so hard.

Like you said, if these former adversaries can do it on the common man level, why hasn't the Japanese government made a real official apology to the world?

And do you think it's too much to ask that they stop propagandizing their childrens' history.

So if an apology is made, would the world suddenly change for the better?

What matters is how Japan relates to our country in terms of trade and national security.

Having actually talked to a lot of the people who were actually there at Pearl Harbor and in WWII, I know more about historical details than you might imagine. I met top fighter aces, the 442nd soldiers, bomber pilots who flew over Germany. Even met one of the few people who survived "The Great Escape" from a POW camp.

After they went through some of the most awful times in recorded history, they went ahead with their lives. They traded flak jackets for suits, got back to work, and focused on today.

That's the lesson of history. Focus on today. Because you can't change the past. And if a country doesn't want to apologize, so what. The Allies won.

So rather than knock the efforts of a president who is trying to improve foreign relations, what are you gonna do today to make this world a better place?
