Why is this not being covered by the media in Bemidji? The school district has been very good at covering up controversy. The school board refused to discipline the superintendent for racist remarks he made to a number of union members a year ago, leaving us Native American teachers alienated and bitter. As a matter of fact, the school board refused to even acknowledge the inappropriateness of the remarks.

Now, an accused sexual abuser is being protected by the school district, the school board, and the media. Even though the allegations are well over a year old, the general public still does not know this happened. Only one TV station in Fargo has done any reporting on it. Law enforcement is hoping for more victims to come forward. How are they to come forward if the general public is unaware of the initial accusations? Would the general public be comfortable with the fact that there is a potentially long-term child sexual predator among us?

The man may not even be guilty. But any time someone is accused of a sexual crime, the information is immediately picked up by the media. Why isn't this situation the same?

Whomever is to blame-the school district, law enforcement, the media or all of the above, the general public should have access to this information, allowing parents every opportunity to ensure the safety of their children.

Call your school board members in Bemidji. Call the superintendent's office, demand the facts as they are at this point. Demand this information be made available to the public through media channels. If they refuse, then demand an answer. Obviously this is not confidential if Valley News reported on it.

You are correct. This is a very corrupt school board and administration. They continually try to deceive the public. It's unfortunate that the superintendent and school board swept his derogatory comments about the Native American community under the rug. There is a day coming, not too far off when this superintendent will be gone. That's probably when the fallout of the coverups and lies will end up hurting the district, mainly by creating a deep sense of mistrust from Bemidji's citizens. Great schools, great teachers, wonderful kids and families. Tarnished by the corruption of those who dictate policy and decisions.

If this teacher is truly guilty of the allegations, and he's being protected by the school district and the media in Bemidji, any further molestation/abuse will be on the shoulders of the school district and the media. That will place Bemidji Schools and the community in the national spotlight. Shameful.
