Former State Representative Roscoe D. Cunningham is the only candidate running uncommitted in the Illinois 15th Congressional District and he is strong about the reasons why the Republicans in this district should make one of their convention delegates an uncommitted one.

"It is intellectually dishonest to ... disenfranchise the voters so soon," Cunningham said. "It's seven months until we have the convention, and anything could happen in that length of time." "I'll put in an 800 number for all the people in the 15th District," he said. "They'll be able to call me until the (convention) gavel falls. I'll listen to them. I'm committed only to the voters of the 23-county 15th District. These other people are already bought and paid for." "I'm not going to say that derogatorily about them," he added. "But you need to keep the doors open."

To be elected delegate in next Tuesday's primary, I need your vote and that of every neightbor you can persuade. Of the 25 candidates for that important position, I am the only "Uncommitted." The others are pledged to various presidential candidates; I am committed only to you. Seven months before the Convention is too soon to slam the door on changes that will occur. We don't even know who the democrat presidential nominee will be. I will install an 800 number and listen to your advice until the gavel falls at St. Paul as to who will be our strongest GOP standard bearer.
