If this had been a white woman from Ms killed by a black man. Regarless of the circumstances he would have been executed. Justice needs to be done. I went to school with Ethel and she did not deserve this. A life was taken.

oh come on Randa, I agree with you justice was not served, but please don't pull out the race card. I understand you are angry, but race has nothing to do with it. It is 2008 lets plz try to get beyond all the closed minded racism.

Lesley, please save your comments! You have no clue of what's going on here. I am sick of individuals wanting to sweep everything under the rug and move on blindly as racial discrimination and injustice continues. I live in Belzoni and I see and live with the tension daily. Even though there are those who are trying to overcome the segregation that still occurs, the fact is that it is still a matter of daily life here. Also, trust me, how this young lady was killed and how her killer was let off is a matter of race. Pull up articles and read the facts. He (along with others in the vehicle that he was riding in) chased the car that she was riding in down for about 10 minutes to a dark and secluded roadway and he shot at the car and killed her. Oh yeah, did I mention that they (the other white men in the car with him) "claimed" that he was the one who shot the gun -- his being mentally retarded and all. Whoever you are, please find articles, do research on the matter, and then comment cause you are apparently, profoundly just LOST!!!

The victim's family tried to get Mr. McClellan found guilty of MURDER. The crime committed was MANSLAUGHTER. (Murder is a premeditated crime.) Mr. McClellan had no previous intentions of taking a life. If the prosecutor had known any better, he would have set aside murder charges and gone for manslaughter, which Mr. McClellan was expecting to get. But since no manslaughter charges were brought, Mr. McClellan was free to go in the sense that he did not commit murder.

Also, Mr. McClellan did not have the intention to kill the victim. Mr. McClellan "claimed" he could shoot out the tail light of the car, and when he shot, the bullet went into the car, through the seats, and hit the victim. He didn't kill the victim because she was black. Yes, I agree the death of Ms. Austin was a terrible thing, and my sympathy goes out to her family and friends. But, it was not a race situation. He did not follow her and kill her because she was black. He committed a transfer of intent crime (his claiming he could shoot out a tail light transferred to the bullet going into the vehicle and killing Ms. Austin).

If a crime is committed by a monkey and a black person was in the room it was racist. Blacks are inslaved to the democrate party and the handouts that they get will keep them down. Wake up and move up. Obama will keep you slaves.

Fast forward to 2012. An out of control Peruvan-hispanic-white male shoots Travon Martin in Florida. Segments of American society defend the shooter with the mantra: "It has nothing to do with race."
