I know the idea is to keep out chains but are all chains the same?

Peet's is just one of those great success stories built on providing a great product and giving back to the community. Just look at how KFOG uses Peet's to distribute their annual album to raise money to feed the hungry. If I could vote, I'd vote yes.

Why does Sausalito need a chain coffee shop? Why can't people just buy their coffee from any one of a number of mom & pop stores on Bridgeway that already serve it?

What kind of a local experience is that? And don't give me the Peet's is a local company banter because you know better than that.

...Face it, Peet's may be from the East Bay but it IS a large corporation.

Plenty of java locations in Sausalito already. Not enough business for any of them in today's economy.

I bet Pete's doesn't know that Ford touted herself as anti development, or maybe she really isn't, maybe she is sheepp in wolfs clothes, or maybe Pete's knows she is just a sheep.

The guys at Peets' don't put one in where they know it's going to fail. And today's economy won't last forever...

Always amazed how backwards Sausalito appears when it comes to any City council matter i.e. is a tie vote a NO ? You have to be kidding, right ?

Nevermind Peet's. What Sausalito really needs on Bridgeway is a WalMart! Always low prices everyday!(-:

How many Sausalito residents could afford their $million dollar homes if it wasn't for corporations?

Yeah, but those corporations are not situated along Bridgeway looking for the sight-seeing tourist's dollars.

Since this is about what the tourists want it really doesn't matter if the locals like it or not. And tourists are not going to stop visiting Saucy Lito because of which side of the street the Peet's Coffee is on.

The coffee shop that was there and closed was terrible (Northgate? Northbay? I don't remember the name). Watery coffee and bad food.

For all those that want to prevent a viable company from occupying that space, please propose a business that you think would be appropriate for that location. Be realistic now, no BS, we have to live in the real world.

Although I know very little about Sausalito--it will set a precedent; allow Peets and the GAAP will follow. Beware what you allow. By the way--I love Peets.

Dear God, what is the matter with the city of Sausalito???

As a resident, I'm in shock over the "rules and regulations" that allow Bridgeway to look like a touristy dumping ground of tacky tee shirt and souvenir shops and yet when a highly respected, community-minded company like Peet's comes along, Sausalito puts up a fight.

I get the zoning and the no "chains" philosophy. I really do. But at some point, we need to use our heads.

Thank you Planning Commission members for approving last month. City Council members, if we turn Peet's down, I'm moving. I might as well, as I currently have to drive to Mill Valley, Corte Madera or San Rafael to get my daily dose of Peet's coffee.

Peet's, with or without Sausalito, you are and will always be top dog in my coffee cup!

As a resident of Sausalito, I, for one, would be heartbroken if this chain shop were allowed to tarnish Bridgeway and destroy the high-class district shared by such noble establishments as Crazy Shirts, Dis'n'Dat, and that place that sells Christmas crap all year long.

Wasn't the Domino Theory the argument that we used when we went to Vietnam? I guess you weren't here in the 80's. There was a Benneton store on Bridgeway and it didn't start a Domino effect of chain stores.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Libra

Remember that life isn't all fun and games: handle your responsibilities first, then plan how to have a good time. Your impulses, once you yield to them, will have a tendency to lead you further and further from where you need to be. Make sure you lock the door behind you before disappearing; when you're in this kind of mischievous mood, you probably won't want anyone else to know where you're going.
